Haha I love this concept. Cheap and low profile unlike army vehicles but still can show serious presence (via machinegun) unlike normal police car or Land Rover.

Actually this year the brits are quite participative with the inclusion of the Typhoons and the Royal Marines. Past years sometimes they send observers only.

I think among the Angmoh FPDA members only Australia actually gives a fuck. New Zealand join or never join also no different. laugh.gif

Cambodian paratrooper gets stuck on street lamp post after jump team miss stadium where National Games exercises were being done.

user posted image
A paratrooper, left, veers off course near the Olympic Stadium on Wednesday, while another hangs from a lamppost on Sihanouk Boulevard, in still images from videos posted to Facebook.

When eight soldiers from the elite Brigade 911 paratroopers unit exited a helicopter at about 6 p.m. on Wednesday evening during a rehearsal for today’s National Games opening ceremony, it was supposed to be a routine exercise in which they all landed safely on the Olympic Stadium’s artificial turf.

Only two made it.

The other six completely missed the 60,000-capacity stadium and were sent drifting above surrounding roads. While most managed to land on their feet among traffic, one was left hanging from a lamppost outside a gas station on Preah Sihanouk Boulevard—much to the amusement of onlookers and Facebook users once the photos went viral.

Chap Pheakdey, commander of Brigade 911, one of the best-trained units in the military, said the mishap was due to all six soldiers encountering “technical errors.”

“They landed in the opposite area from the stadium—onto the street —because there were technical errors,” he said, declining to divulge details on the multiple malfunctions.

“It’s a soldier’s decision when irregularities happen, they can decide to find a suitable area to land,” he said. “It was a coincidence that one of them landed on a lamppost.”

Just joking lerr....

In spy stories there's always this officer who previously studied/trained in the US was later discovered to have been 'turned' by the CIA to be their man. Bonus if the officer later turned out to be a double agent who was also working for the FSB.

PLA never did fully convert to QBZ-95 though, lots of units (especially 2nd line units and reserves) still use older Type 81 rifles. A lot of QBZ-03 carbines are also in circulation with the frontline units..

Bullpup has pros and cons against normal rifle, but I think at the moment the cons outweigh the pros.

I think anybody sitting inside any type of rocket/missile launcher vehicle while they are launching it will be screwed. I think standard procedure is for everyone to get the hell away if you value your hearing. laugh.gif

Not only that, heavy rockets blasting off not 12 feet from where you are sitting would probably leave you with a mild concussion. I doubt any amount of soundproof padding can cancel out that kind of power.

Probably pretty dangerous, considering the propellants usually used in rocket fuel are pretty corrosive and toxic themselves.

This isn't a CIWS either. It's more of a short-range anti-surface/anti-air hybrid weapon system.

I think CIWS must have certain characteristics for it to be called a CIWS. Stuff like integrated radar and a high rate of fire, preferably multi-barreled?

Also, isn't the LMM is somewhat too lightweight for it to be an anti-ship weapon? It's for Anti-boat perhaps? laugh.gif

Anyway, are any aircraft in TUDM capable of maritime strike duties? We have a respectable number of Exocets, but can any of our fighter planes/helicopters launch it? Seems like a neglected field, considering Malaysia has like 70% sea border areas. confused.gif

edit: ah, it seems we never did buy the AM39 air launched version.....

I was discussing military matters with some friends the other day, when unexpectedly someone asked: "If war break out between Malaysia and someone else in the ASEAN region, can we force a superpower to help us by threatening to close/restrict access to the straits of Malacca if they don't?"

I had to admit I had no answer. hmm.gif

It was made quite clear that FDPA is not a formal alliance, just an defence forum. In the event of war on Malaysia or Singapore the FDPA members must be 'consulted'. It was never said any declaration of war on both countries is an automatic trigger for alliance members' action unlike article 5 of NATO charter.

Well that depend on the how serious the conditions is.
If it were to threatened the selat melacca shipping lanes cobfirmed all will campur tangan.
On how to settle the war it still depend on calculating interest of the superpower nation.

Help doesn't always mean military aid or action. Can also mean help convince the superpower force the other side to stop its war on Malaysia. Maybe can even make UN resolution on stopping the war.
