iOS 10 was introduced at the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference keynote address on June 13, 2016.[2] The first beta release was made available to registered developers following the keynote.[4] Apple released the first public-beta release on July 7, 2016.[5] iOS 10 was released publicly on September 13, 2016.[3]

Features

System

Lock screen

The "slide to unlock" mechanism on the lock screen has been removed in favor of pressing the home button.[6] Similar to the feature on the Apple Watch, "Raise to Wake" wakes up the device when the user lifts it. This function requires a device with a M9 motion coprocessor,[7] such as iPhone 6S and iPhone SE. The "Today" view of Notification Center has been relocated to the left side, which is accessible by swiping from the left to right. Swiping from right to left accesses the camera.[8]

Home screen

Certain default applications included with iOS devices can be hidden from the home screen and 're-downloaded' from the App Store.[8][9] This feature was first hinted at during an interview in September 2015 in which Apple CEO Tim Cook stated that Apple was "looking at" allowing customers to remove unused stock apps.[10]

Notification Center

Notifications can expand to display more information and all unread notifications can be cleared at once, using 3D Touch. The "Today" view widgets are shown on the leftmost page of the home screen as well as in Notification Center.

Control Center

Control Center has been split into three pages: one for general settings, such as quick toggles for airplane mode and orientation lock, one for audio controls and one for controlling HomeKit (internet of things) appliances.[11] 3D Touch capabilities have been added to several toggles.[8]

Other changes

Several sound effects have been replaced. For instance, locking and unlocking device and individual key presses of the keyboard. QuickType virtual keyboards, which provide predictive-text capabilities, can predict answers to questions and suggests relevant information based on location, calendar availability or contacts.

Applications

Messages

The Messages application will be able to show previews of received links, videos and other content.[6] The application has been enhanced with many visual effects. Chat bubbles, for example, can be sent with a "loud" or "gentle" animation that the recipient sees upon receiving. The "invisible ink" effect obscures the message until the recipient swipes across it. Full-screen effects like balloons, confetti or fireworks can be sent. There is also support for interactions similar to the Apple Watch, such as sending quick sketches and recording and sending the user's heartbeat.[8][12]

Third-party developers will be able to provide dedicated iMessage apps to users with which they can share rich content or interact with certain app functions from within the Messages app. For example, users can send "stickers", search for web images or order taxicab or ride-sharing services from within a conversation.[8]

Maps

Maps has been redesigned and updated with additional features, including scanning calendar events for locations, learning from a user's typical actions, and a redesigned driving view.[13] A marker can be automatically placed to indicate the user's parked car.[14]

Photos

Photos can now shoot RAW using third-party apps, allowing greater control over detail.[15] In addition, the app gains deep learning capabilities for sorting and search,[16] with a new "Memories" feature that automatically recognizes and compiles related photos and creates short, musical videos that are easily shareable.[17] Local facial recognition is also used to group pictures by people.[18]

Home

Home is a new application that allows users to manage appliances compatible with HomeKit, Apple's API for home automation. In the app, a user can turn on lights, unlock doors, and perform several other actions.[19] A "Scenes" panel allows many devices to be controlled at once to fit a mood or setting. Geo-fencing activates scheduled sequences following the user's location.[6]

News

News, taking cues from the Music layout, has been redesigned to incorporate bold headings and a newspaper-esque layout in the redesigned "For You" tab, making it easier to find and read stories. News also features support for subscriptions and provides notifications for breaking news.

Music

The Music application has been redesigned, with an emphasis placed on usability. The "For You" section has been reorganized, with a playlist offering daily music recommendations. The "New" tab has been renamed "Browse". A new tab for music that has been downloaded called "Downloaded Music" has been added.[19] Lyrics will also be viewable for songs in-app in iOS 10.[20] The "Search" tab will include recent and trending searches.[21]

Phone

The Phone application will be able to transcribe voicemails. Siri can announce the name and number of incoming calls.[22] Incoming calls from known spam callers can be marked by the system. VoIP calls provided by third-party applications can be integrated with the system-wide call screen, similar to regular phone calls.[8]

Developer

Third-party developers can use public APIs to integrate their apps with Siri. Users will then be able to send voice queries to particular apps and perform certain actions directly. The functionality is limited to: sending messages, starting Voice over IP calls, sending and requesting payments, searching for photos and videos, ordering taxicab or ride-sharing services and managing workouts.[8][13]

Changes

With the release of iOS 10's developer beta (a version of iOS 10 made available to software programmers for testing prior to public release), developers were notified that a number of APIs had been changed.[23] These changes meant that, in some cases, information that was previously accessible could no longer be retrieved. For example battery hardware information such as cycles, charging voltage, input/output current, and real charge were removed from IOKit. All apps that previously displayed this information either crashed or displayed "0".[24]

Problems

The initial public release of iOS 10 on September 13, 2016 saw many iPhones and iPads temporarily disabled, or "bricked" by the over-the-air update, requiring bricked devices to be connected to a Mac or PC with iTunes in order to retry the update or restore the device to factory settings. Apple fixed the issue quickly, and released a statement: "We experienced a brief issue with the software update process, affecting a small number of users during the first hour of availability. The problem was quickly resolved and we apologize to those customers."[25]

Supported devices[

With this release, Apple dropped support for devices with an A5 chip: iPhone 4S, iPad 2, iPad (3rd generation), iPad Mini (1st generation) and iPod Touch (5th generation).

ive actually tried turning off and on for the "rest finger to open" option but it just seems to have no difference?  confused.gif

i still gotta click on home button...

but i really miss that slide to unlock that allows passcode entering instead of only touch ID option to unlock phone  sad.gif

You have to use the "Raise to Wake" feature where you wake up the phone by just lifting up the phone and then touch the touch id so that the phone recognizes your thumbprint and unlocks the phone. You wont be able to "rest finger to open" the phone without waking it up first.

Try reinstalling whatsapp but dont restore your messages first. If this still doesnt work, then you would have to hard reset.

Thanks for the reply . How do i backup without open the whatsapps ? i had tried the soft reset . Still the same .
*
Then backup the whole phone trough Itunes. Its the only way now. Anyway, without u opening the app, you would never know if the chats are still inside. And Whatsapp backups the chats perodically. So your chats should be there, technically.

Updated yesterday. The battery consumption is better IMHO.

But one thing i regret is that on this new OS, DiGi is spelt Digi not DiGi  sad.gif

QUOTE(fox_shinoda @ Sep 18 2016, 08:22 AM)
I agree on the battery consumption part. Another thing I noticed, instead of LTE its now changed to 4G for DiGi
*
QUOTE(chephren @ Sep 18 2016, 08:46 AM)
Yeah. Its Digi 4G now. Before it was DiGi LTE
*
These are all network dependant. Meaning your network providers are the one who determine what appears on your phone display.

Have you turned off My Apps and App Store function in Suggested Apps?

It should be inside iTunes & App Store settings is it because I don't see these options there? I remember in iOS 9 it's there if I'm not mistaken.
*
Sadly it's not in IOS 10 now. Try this instead. Go to Settings > Privacy > Location Services > System Services > Location-Based Suggestions > OFF.

Mine too. It took me 2 times restarting the phone and it's fine now.

The gap between the brightness button is quite far for 6+. Are your fingers that big?

Its a very different platform for android phone as each manufacturer customize their own version of android for their own specific phone where Apple uses the same platform for all their iphones.

But the beauty of it that you can customise further to reduce the os size of android though.

Well, everything would have its pros and cons. So this will depend on how you like your android. Customization is the no 1 advantage android has over IOS.
