Yes, he is the highest placed Japanese rider. Makoto Tamada was also a talented rider, achieved podiums on satellite Hondas. Another "almost" guy.
I noticed Japanese riders tend to stick to lower classes.
It's been the trend since 2 stroke years. Remember former two-time 125cc champion Kazuto Sakata? He raced in 125cc category in his entire GP career because no age restriction back then (he retired at 33). Usually if these guys didn't make it to higher classes, they'd race locally (with occasional wildcard appearances at Japanese GP. Note that Japanese superbike championship used to have their own 125cc/250cc category in the same way Italy & Spain have their own Moto3/Moto2 category right now).I noticed Japanese riders tend to stick to lower classes.

Hope all goes well. Does this mean KIP won't be racing?
If I remember correctly, KIP & several other riders that race in Spanish CEV Moto3 already got permission from KKM & MKN to travel abroad.Hope all goes well. Does this mean KIP won't be racing?
Edit: I didn't realize KIP was denied entry. Tbh they should've rent a flat somewhere close to their team base earlier this season. Saves the hassle of travelling back here. Tatsuki Suzuki lives close to Misano.
