I'm also seriously considering this car, will do a test drive to see it's all good.

I've driven the Golf GTI for years and there was absolutely no problems with the car. With the inclusion of the wet clutch for the Tiguan I do not think there would be any problems as well.

The good thing is that they've up the manufacturers warranty to 5 years and also 15,000km or 1 year service is a decent effort by VW.

My only complaint is the service center (Glenmarie) being slow, sometimes long wait just to see the counter. At least it's only once a year!

I test drove this car on the weekend, only the Comfortline was available to see, I was hoping to see the Highline with the active display and the "added cost" Car Play system.

Overall impressions with the car is fairly good. The car is well made, lots of rear legroom and there is ample space in the trunk.

Negatives - dash board seemed very high, I think there may be line of sight problems for shorter people.

Power - with all this talk about the car being able to do 0-100 in less than 9 seconds, it surely did not feel like it at all. Even in "S"mode the car was hesitant when the accelerator was depressed.

I understand that the engine is only a 1.4L TSI but the power and torque should be more than enough and comparable or better than a 2.0L torque convertor.

My feeling is that the main issue is that the torque band is only from 1500rpm to 3500 rpm, so anything above these RPMs seem to be insufficient in power. Normal driving and overtaking at speeds under 80km/h should not be a big deal for the new Tiguan.

NVH - I do not think it is as good as it has been reported in the car review websites. The engine seemed very loud when revved high, almost too loud, I haven't experienced this with the Golf GTI or the Ford Focus that I'm currently driving. Plasticky materials on door panels and probably a lack of insulation may be the cause of this.

Positives -
Space, lots of space. It will be very suitable for families on long trips.

DSG transmission is surprisingly good. At slow speeds the DSG seemed capable without the jerks that many have been accustomed to hearing. I think VW have made good software changes to the DSG.

Interior is lovely, well refined similar to what you'll see in other continental cars or the Mazda CX-5. It feels more "Quality" than your average Japanese SUV like the CRV or Forrester.

Fuel Consumption should be very decent however I doubt it can do 1000km as the salesman told me.

At the moment I feel that it is a decent car, however I'm not sold on it just yet.

Does anyone know if the new 1.4L TSI Tiguan come with the fuel saving mode where the engine switches off 2 cylinders and turns it back to 4 cylinders when required?

I've read this in the Australian Tiguan reviews so I'm wondering if it has this feature as well in Malaysia.

guess so. especially for high-line, now no more discount, it is quite silly for one to book now but without rm7k for just merely weeks difference.

The only thing they seem to be offering now is free App-Connect for the Highline. If they are selling very well, I do not think they'll offer any good deals until year end.

It's nice to see that VW have "too much sales" and have to wait for the car. I'm sure the car will be very good but it's the servicing that people should be worried about. More cars = more people servicing, meaning servicing backlog and long waits. Hopefully VW are rectifying this issue.
