Hi guys, I'm new to paypal.

What happens if I don't add a credit/debit card to my paypal account? Can I still use it? Because I read in the Paypal site which states that if I don't verify my card with them my account has a payment/receipt limit. Does that mean I still can use it to buy items online without attaching a card to the account?

Just to clarify, I have not added a card to my Paypal. When I click check out on a website and login my paypal there, it asks for my credit card number. Does this mean it's a 1 off payment (i.e. paying without attaching it to paypal)

Any pros and cons?

Yup you still can use Paypal but the amount is limited. I think up to 500USD only then you'll have to verify it to continue using it.

If you purchase something online and it request credit card number then that's credit card payment already, not by paypal. Paypal payment uses email only.

There's pros and cons of course for linking your credit card. I actually prefer linking to debit card with less amount of money just for safety concern.

Thanks for your reply.

Actually I clicked checkout, then it asks for my paypal login details so I logged in. But I didn't link my card to Paypal so it asks for my credit card number under the paypal column.

How does it work actually? Using Paypal without linking a card?

Do you have balance in your paypal account? What currency is your paypal balance? What currency are you using for your purchase?

There's nothing in my account. It's new. Trying to purchase in USD.

Just curious if I enter my credit card at the paypal checkout is it the same as linking my card to my paypal?

Since you have nothing in your Paypal account, then they would ask for your alternative payment method to fund your purchase, ie credit card/debit card/bank account.

Nope, even if your add in your credit card, you would still be unverified, unless you choose to verify it to remove the limit. But nonetheless, if your purchase is less then the limit they given you, and your status is still unverified, you can still purchase it.

You should add your credit card into your paypal account first (properly set up your paypal account) before you purchase anything.

I see, so in the end I will have to link my card to paypal.

How safe is paypal actually? Thought of linking to my MBB debit card but kinda scared as all my savings is in there sweat.gif

If u doesnt want to link it to ur paypal, just pay using the credit card option would do.

Paypal is safe, but there are cases where paypal accounts been hack. so just b caution if u want to link it, make sure that acc have just enough funds to pay off the item and not anything more than that.

I'm curious about the credit card option. It's still under paypal right? But if can pay through credit card why would they require me to login paypal in the first place?

I added a debit card to my paypal. But I notice there's a section under "profile" tab which says add bank account.

What's the difference/uses between those 2?

Hey guys, I have linked my debit card to my Paypal, and used it several times to buy stuffs overseas. Usually its relatively simple, add item to cart and just checkout with Paypal.

However, now I want to buy some stuffs from a guy who does not own a website. He said he accepts Paypal, but I have no idea how to send money/pay him using paypal. Under the "send payment" tab in Paypal, what info of his do I need? His email/phone number(because he just mentioned to pay using Paypal without providing me any details)?

Also will he be charged if I paid him using this method? He mentioned Paypal charges him 45USD fees but my item actually costs ~60USD only.

Paypal does not charge him 45USD to receive USD60 payment.
in fact paypal will only charge him USD 2.04.

i strongly suggest that you do not proceed with the payment

also.. the rates varies between 0.5% ~ 3.9%
what i gave you is a rough estimation of 2.9% + USD0.30

Why do you say I should not proceed with payment?

Lets just say, for future reference, if I proceed with the payment, what details do I actually need from the seller to direct the payment to him/her?

[attachmentid=3352673]

if you choose personal payment...

[attachmentid=3352674]

you will get the option to pay for the charges instead...
but if you choose payment for online purchase, seller confirm gonna get charged for a fee to receive your payment but NOT as much as USD45.
but this option has buyers protection as mentioned by paypal

Oh I see, so I need his email address only?

No, actually he did not ask me for 45USD, he just said don't transfer yet because the fees is high. Maybe there's some miscommunication because as you said the fee is not that high.

May I ask what is the buyer protection? I vaguely remember reading that if I don't receive my item within 30 days or so I should raise a dispute in paypal, Then after another certain period if still not settle with buyer I can escalate to a refund, right?

maybe you can ask him to request payment from you, i check ady, the deduction is not much only.. around the same i estimated.

you're right about that buyer's protection, you can raise dispute for refund  =)
