I drove in Melbourne. Drivers there are very courteous. If you are driving in Melbourne, make sure you know what is the hook turn and how to execute. And pedestrians always have the right of way. Some turns do not have traffic light, you will have to know when you are allow to turn. Always follow the speed limit. And learn how to drive when there are tram ways. There are youtubes videos showing all these.

However this is for short stay such as on holliday etc. If you are there on a student visa or work permit or PR status, you either apply for an international driving license at your home country or apply driving license it at the commenwealth country you are staying in.
