It seems the kante and matic combo can really work. They can take turns in attack and both of them know how to shield our defense when we're under pressure. Hazard probably could've done better with kante's pinpoint pass over the top as well icon_idea.gif

Back to back wins and another cleansheet, suddenly things are looking up again. I'd put leicester under the top class opposition category, despite their recent struggles and boy did we make them look ordinary. We literally bullied their midfield and it was such a joy to watch biggrin.gif

Luiz, kante, costa, alonso (lovely runs and crosses!),azpi, matic, hazard, moses, all played really well. That assist from nate was something even eden would applaud.

But did anyone else get the feeling that we played within ourselves, so to speak?it's like we just kept it to second or third gear, yet we still managed to break them down many times. The pace we maintained somewhat reminded me of Serie A,but if that's just part of conte's game management then I'm all for it if we still end up pummeling teams. Perhaps we're more tactical now,but with less emphasis on intensity? hmm.gif

Having said that, we've already failed two of our biggest tests in the form of pool and arsenal, and next weekend will be our third one, with utd paying us a visit. I'm intrigued to see how conte approaches this one, whether there'll be a change of shape / personnel or even both. Wouldn't mind if we just maintained everything as it is,and consolidate the system.

Bad challenge from luiz, but a yellow's fair imo. It was mistimed, ball was there to be won. Hope fellaini's ok though.

What a breathless first half, but we've actually been quite sloppy with our final passes in the final third. Just a little bit more care and deliberation and we could be 3 or 4 goals ahead in all honesty. Still one hell of a performance though! biggrin.gif

Ahhh I kind of pity bats. We're starting to chill as the game's done and dusted, so he's not getting much service. In the meantime, I like willian's position in the middle, looks unstoppable when he cuts inside.

Honestly, who could've thought we'd get our biggest win vs utd, after that nightmare at the emirates? U know in a weird way that beating arsenal gave us was a huge blessing in disguise,as it convinced conte to just say screw it,I'm going to start using my favourite formation, no matter what happens! That took guts and determination to follow-through with everything, and u gotta respect the Don for that smile.gif

QUOTE(kucingmainan @ Oct 24 2016, 01:04 AM)
Great performance. As I said from last week, should be no problem vs utd. Didn't expect to win this big though. Lol. The team play superbly well with this new tactic.

-Moses + Alonso play amazing at wing back.
-Matic + Kante covering each other ass.
-Dave + luiz + Cahill link well as the 3 CBs. Not sure i want to kacau this combo anytime soon.
-tibo rare godlike mode.
-costa abit quite. His presence does effect utd defense though.
- Hazard + Pedro on the wing with 5 star performance.

My MOTM: Pedro

Haha dude you're quite confident to expect a win, after they shut down pool at anfield i wasn't so sure. I think they lacked intensity today, and we looked far,far hungrier.

Agree with your MOTM,that poacher's instinct for the first goal was superb, but that touch to setup kante was sublime. Watched it again in the replay,it was pure genius icon_idea.gif

Having said that, there has to be a special mention for luiz,he was amazing today. Came back from PSG and he's looking our best defender.. I don't think anyone could've seen that coming. (just like this huge win laugh.gif)

It sure took awhile, but against man utd was the first time i've seen chelsea with such a high level of intensity. utd just couldn't handle us, and i'd prefer not to overstate the significance of their midweek game. it's still early in the season, the majority of their players should still be fresh and chomping at the bit to impress jose. we took the game to them from start to finish, and i'm just enjoying our attitude towards taking leads. could've been so so easy to just adopt a full on negative approach in the second half after establishing a 2 goal cushion, but we didn't. we sat back a little, but whenever we regained possession you could see there was purpose to our play going forward and the final scoreline is proof of that.

it's now 3 cleansheets in a row, quite an unbelievable prospect just a mere 3 games ago. this win is such a milestone because u gotta bear in mind that this wasn't our favoured formation in pre-season, and when conte decided to suddenly change things up, it's only normal some players will have doubts lingering through their minds. that 2-0 win away to hull probably got them thinking "okay this ain't so bad." then came the 3 nil vs leicester and they're probably going; "hmm this could actually work." the utd smashing would have sealed it for ALL of them, and there's no doubt everyone's bought into conte's philosophy now. just imagine if utd nicked a 1 or 2 nil win, everyone would probably still need some convincing if this is the 'right' formation and tactic for us. thankfully, we won't be going through that phase.

my initial choice for MOTM was pedro, but if we attempt to list out all standout performers, every player easily makes the cut. from azpi's / alonso's (what a revelation thus far!) defending, to luiz (that brilliant last minute tackle on ibra to deny him a tap in!) and cahill's clearances, kante's goal, matic's pinpoint assist for eden, eden's deadly finish, costa's non-stop running and (STRANGELY) controlled temper, tibo's world class save from ibra's moment of magic, the list is endless.

even picking the best goal is a bit of a chore. personally for me it's a straight shootout between pedro and kante. the former's so so significant as it just completely throws off utd's gameplan and it was a pretty neat finish. and i love kante's because you could practically hear the conversation in their CBs heads probably going something like this:

"oh it's only kante, he's not gonna shoot,he'll probably ju...oooooooooooohhh sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeetttttt~~~~~" laugh.gif beating de gea is no easy feat either and that controlled finish just rolling it into the net was just pure ecstasy!

Was just trying my luck scrolling through astro's sports channels and it turns out THERE IS a live telecast of our game at 2.40am (kickoff's at 3 am iinm) on astro supersport channel 831. Unbelievably, we also get full HD coverage where even the manchester derby is only getting standard definition via 814.

Looks like some astro bigwigs might actually be huge chelsea fans! tongue.gif
