It sure took awhile, but against man utd was the first time i've seen chelsea with such a high level of intensity. utd just couldn't handle us, and i'd prefer not to overstate the significance of their midweek game. it's still early in the season, the majority of their players should still be fresh and chomping at the bit to impress jose. we took the game to them from start to finish, and i'm just enjoying our attitude towards taking leads. could've been so so easy to just adopt a full on negative approach in the second half after establishing a 2 goal cushion, but we didn't. we sat back a little, but whenever we regained possession you could see there was purpose to our play going forward and the final scoreline is proof of that.
it's now 3 cleansheets in a row, quite an unbelievable prospect just a mere 3 games ago. this win is such a milestone because u gotta bear in mind that this wasn't our favoured formation in pre-season, and when conte decided to suddenly change things up, it's only normal some players will have doubts lingering through their minds. that 2-0 win away to hull probably got them thinking "okay this ain't so bad." then came the 3 nil vs leicester and they're probably going; "hmm this could actually work." the utd smashing would have sealed it for ALL of them, and there's no doubt everyone's bought into conte's philosophy now. just imagine if utd nicked a 1 or 2 nil win, everyone would probably still need some convincing if this is the 'right' formation and tactic for us. thankfully, we won't be going through that phase.
my initial choice for MOTM was pedro, but if we attempt to list out all standout performers, every player easily makes the cut. from azpi's / alonso's (what a revelation thus far!) defending, to luiz (that brilliant last minute tackle on ibra to deny him a tap in!) and cahill's clearances, kante's goal, matic's pinpoint assist for eden, eden's deadly finish, costa's non-stop running and (STRANGELY) controlled temper, tibo's world class save from ibra's moment of magic, the list is endless.
even picking the best goal is a bit of a chore. personally for me it's a straight shootout between pedro and kante. the former's so so significant as it just completely throws off utd's gameplan and it was a pretty neat finish. and i love kante's because you could practically hear the conversation in their CBs heads probably going something like this:
"oh it's only kante, he's not gonna shoot,he'll probably ju...oooooooooooohhh sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeetttttt~~~~~"

beating de gea is no easy feat either and that controlled finish just rolling it into the net was just pure ecstasy!
