Was skeptical at first, but if the global rom came from miui forum, it should be fine, right? I mean, there are fake roms but im pretty sure the good ppl at miui forum went through a thorough check before uploading the roms. Other websites, i dare not to dload and flash it..

Briefly, how tedious would it be to flash from global rom to this eu rom, and would my data n apps be wiped as well?

I'm still on global 8.0.3.0, haven't updated to 8.0.4.0 yet.. is it ok eg battery/ram usage improved?

Great.. Looks like the seller readjusted the price to RM 779 now..

Initially, my idea was to get the RN4 as a spare phone.. but after my prev hp went kaput, it became my main phone. Lemme summarise what I like/dislike abt the phone:
+ latest mediatek chipset Helio X20
+ 3gb ram & 64gb rom (expandable via microSD)
+ big screen, minimum bezel
+ big battery 4100mAh
+ fast charge, lasts long (enough for 1 day work with full charge)
+ infrared (can use as remote, tried on my tv, a/cond, fan, etc)
+ notification light (selectable colours), also displayed when charging (red->yellow->green)
+ fingerprint (very fast response eg unlock phone)
- camera picture quality ok la
- cant find any pouch other than the cheap rm10 transparent tpu case at the moment
- 2pin charger (but i use my 3pin nokia 1020 charger)
- not official in msia, so warranty is by supplier

Unfortunately, I don't have a bluetooth enabled car unit.. but other devices works fine.

Nice.. What colour did u guys choose? Might get either black or dark grey.. and that same shop also have the tempered glass.. U guys use tempered glass or not?

Im still using the stock matte sticker, haven't peel it off yet until i get a tempered glass. Yes, I haven't taken any selfies nor video calls yet bcoz the matte sticker covers the front cam n sensor..

RM 899 is indeed expensive, but that's the price u have to pay if u walk-in i supposed. U could save around RM 200 if u bought online eg via Lazada, etc.. it's the exact same item but u'll get it 1-2 days later instead, and u can use that 200 to buy something else eg casing and/or tempered glass.

Anyway, yes it does work out of the box, including OTA updates. After updating to the lastest 8.0.4.0, no need to lock whatsapp in recent app list, just set autostart as said by the above forumer.

It includes all Google apps eg PlayStore, Gmail, etc. The gps is excellent, instant lock and immediate reroutings.

I use the RN4 purely for work, and its Helio X20 chipset does a superb job (open and view attachments such as AutoCAD drawings, Photoshop PSD files, etc). The only game I have right now is Implosion : Never Lose Hope. The graphics is awesome, even at High settings.

The only thing I can't seem to find is the Voice over LTE option in settings. Has anyone able to find it? Is it the SIP settings?

Latest build no problem in speed, but connecting to wifi spots a bit slower than prev build..

I thought it will always/auto quick charge the phone when u charge it? My normal charge is 1min per 1%.. meaning 100mins @ 1h40m for 100%, but using my 3pin nokia charger.. never used the stock 2pin charger yet

I'm using UMobile, but why suddenly my network changed to Maxis, and the ® symbol appeared in the status bar?

Had to manual search and then auto select the network. Weird. Roaming has always been set to Never.

Surprisingly, I can make calls when it showed 'Maxis'.

Carrier name has always been the default, no change at all.

Does this mean UMobile can use Maxis network?

I'm not sure abt Gtronic (a.k.a. SatuGadget right?), but if global rom dloaded from official miui forum, shouldn't have any ads.

GPS is awesome. Instant locking and reroutings, no issue at all.

I use my 5v/2a nokia 3pin charger, so far so good.

Guilty as charged.

So far so good, better in 8.0.4.0 and update all apps.

32 hours standby, only 50%.. with just Whatsapp on autostart, brightness auto, data on..


Ram usage around ~50% most of the time too..

As a Nokia 1020 user, I would say the camera quality output is rather disappointing. Yes, comparing a 41mp vs 13mp is obviously unfair.. but if compared to other 13mp phones, RN4 still requires a lot of improvements.

But, thumbs up for its CAF (continuous auto focus) video recording, which is selectable other than its Tap to focus option.

Panorama is so-so, the stitching is good if u capture good panorama angles, lighting, etc. If u use the Google Street View app, u can capture panorama photos and upload to facebook as 360° Facebook Photos.

Just got back from Klang Parade. Went to the basement, found the CYKStore / OMG One-Mobile-Gadgets phone accessories shop (in front of the escalator from GF). Bought the casing + tempered glass.

This type of casing, only got the gold colour at the moment. No grey colour. But there are other type of casings eg brown leather (but with reflective gold sides), full rubber 'tough design' (but thick), and then there's the "iphone 6" casing hehe.. but I decided to go with the matte gold sides + 'carbon-fibre' design (by Spigen).



Tempered glass : Lelong.my link

There's a cheap RM13 type but I came there to get the Nillkin H+ PRO (0.2mm) type. The tempered glass covers the screen from edge of the visible display (from the inner edge of the size bezel), NOT from the outer edge of the bezel. Meaning to say, the bezel will be outside of the tempered glass.. which logically doesn't serve a purpose if the glass were to cover it anyway. Refer to image below..



With this new casing and tempered glass on, I flipped the phone down to see whether the 2.5D tempered glass protrudes more than the casing, but luckily no. So, that's good hehe..

In short, casing RM20, tempered glass RM35.. total RM55 (with installation, which he did like less than 10 secs)
