r u only limited to only these two brands in your market? if not, there are many brands in the market and each brand has a different sound and feel. similar, we have our own personal preferences. yamaha and kawai are long established brands 'from japan', but they are not the only brands in the world. i am not sure where you live, i would suggest that you visit more showroom and try out more piano. today, the biggest player in the piano market is china. they are not only the biggest consumer but also the biggest producer, producing 2/3 of new pianos, this include japanese marques. same time, affordable and competitive. chinese pianos have always been perceived as 'poor quality', in which i totally agree. but things have been changing dramatically since 1990s when they open up the market for possible J.V., foreign partners and etc. the condition now in china is growing fast as the chinese becoming to accustomed to western ways of doing business and focused on quality control.
