Ya, Tan Chong parts are pretty bad, even on new cars. Tan Chong hold a monopoly on Nissan here so they take advantage. In my case (X-Trail) I've found that non-Tan Chong parts to be of equal quality, without having to pay for the Nissan name.
You can also buy parts direct from Nissan Japan from certain spare part shops but it's very expensive. I'm told this is what the government does for their Nissan cars.
