Guys, anyone who wanted to do 3M tint, please be careful. I'll share my experience with 3M tint here.

I just would like to give review on the 3M tint that was installed for me last year by Fortitude Auto Ampang. I ask for recommendation from Rayven since i'm not familiar with tint. My requirement is the highest TSER and darkest (i don't mind if it's not JPJ compliant). Hence he recommended CS20 (4 windows and back windscreen) and CS35 (front windscreen) and told me it is safety film which i agreed.

After the installation, here where the nightmare came. I realized there is a lot of bubbles and dirt trap inside the window film. Front windscreen, back windscreen and 3 windows! Basically they only did well in 1 window bangwall.gif I made a complain and soon i received a call from 3M representative and appointment was made between me and the representative for inspection. He admit that it was workmanship problem and suggest i send back to Fortitude Auto Ampang. I proceed to make an appointment on Rayven and go all the way to Ampang. When i reached there, guess what? He have no stock for CS35 and told me he will call me once the stock arrived. Upon inspection, he told me that if he were to removed the tint on the back windscreen, most likely the demister will be damaged and he can't do anything about it. Mind u, the car i sent is brand new so i can't risk that. So basically what they are trying to say is if demister damage - your problem, not theirs. Hence, i have no choice but to live with the defect of dirt and bubbles on the back windscreen.

And of course, he never did call me to replace the tint on my front windscreen which he does not have stock. Again, have to live with the defect of dirt in the tint of my front windscreen.

Why do i bring it up now? Because recently, i realized the tint on the back windscreen started to peel off a little and when i check further on the tint, i realized that the back tint was not CS20 as agreed! it was actually CS35! I even further confirm this on another 3M dealer near my office. This is definitely cheating! The below is the receipt and the warranty from 3M, stated at the back is CS20 but it was CS35 instead. And here comes another best part, color stable is not a safety film 4mil as stated in the receipt.

So here i am i, driving with tint that contains bubbles and dirt trapped inside the front and back windshield. And there is also dirt trapped inside the driver's window side as well. shakehead.gif

As for the quality of the tint, i realized my car is very hot compared to my other friends who are using non-branded tint and pay much more lesser. Upon checking the specification for CS20/35, i realized that the tint has no IRR rejection as stated in their website. So that is the reason why it is still so hot even after paying premium price for the tint. This i have to admit is my own fault for not checking the specification of the tint before i agree.

Update with phone numbers of scammers:
Rayven 012-5249488 and Amelia 012-4847844
They have even cheated customer by selling premium Crystalline tint and applying their own in-house brand tint to unsuspected buyers.

introduce u sth n u paid that but get sth else, that wat ppl said how tint shop earn big money in fast pace n open multi chain store

yeah, this is cheating.

It's true that removing the rear windscreen film may damage the demister. Some shops are better at this than others but given the poor workmanship of this shop I wouldn't risk it. If you can't live with the lousy tint go to a good tinting shop and ask them to remove it. However no shop will guarantee that the demister won't be damaged. If the demister is damaged you need to replace the glass.
*
it means even authorized reputable tint shop also giving bad workmanship. what's the point of paying premium price?

QUOTE(Ginny88 @ Aug 22 2016, 03:35 PM)
Are you sure you really want C20 for back windscreen? It may impede your driving at night.
*
yeah, no issue for driving at night.

the concern is not much about the quality of the tint but the very poor workmanship, service and unethical way of doing business.

Update: Received a call from 3M and was told that they have terminated Fortitude Auto as their dealer earlier. My case is not the first.

Also, they do not want to be responsible for the cheating case where Fortitude Auto stated as 4mil safety tint. They just told me they will replace the back tint with CS20 as stated in warranty, that's all.

3M push the blame to the dealer, terminate and wash hands clean. That's very bad as the customer is still at a loss. Next thing? The dealer register new company name and be 3M dealer again.

As the chinese saying goes... If the upper beam is not straight, the lower ones will go aslant.

Yes you are right. i'm pretty sure the dealer has already registered with 3M under a new name. I'll never buy any 3M tint anymore.

Update:
3M has inspected my car and guess what, my back windscreen tint is not even 3M tint!! They have sold me cheap tint and claiming it's 3M!

According to 3M official, this is not the first case. Fortitude Auto Rayven 012-5249488 and Amelia 012-4847844 have even cheated customer by selling premium Crystalline tint and applying their own in-house brand tint to unsuspected buyers.

3M has replaced my back tint using CS20 as stated in warranty card. However, they told me the front windscreen with many dirts trapped in the bubble is due to "bad workmanship" and refuse to replace it.

I use 3M tint, and they are really terrible compared to V-kool & Huper Optic. The tint easily gets scratch and you will see all the lines on the tint. This is because 3M's tint is just like a layer on plastic. Now, after ~5 years of using it, all my windows have all the scratch marks.
*
yup. i have 3 cars that tinted with v-kool and no problem at all. yes, v-kool is a bit expensive but the heat rejection and workmanship is excellent compared with 3M. furthermore, there is lots of tint shop selling fake 3M tint. so far never heard about tint shop selling fake v-kool tint.

Go for other brand. Don't even consider 3M coz 50% chances you will be getting a fake tint. And even if not fake, you can see the above comment on the scratches after a couple of years.

Yes, this is true. Same for my car after 5 years too.

How to fix this?

No way to fix. They won't honour the warranty anyway

Both my cars got this problem only within 1-2 years, both from ex-3M Ampang. Both claimed, one with same shop, the other with Kepong shop. The one with same shop, problem came back after about a year and I just put other tinting. The one claimed at Kepong shop, still working fine till today.

The problem is like this. The tint will suddenly be blurry as if there is condensation / oil, and you can't wipe it away.

Notes: Crystalline 70

I can 100% guarantee that you are getting a fake 3M tint from the ampang shop. The thing is, 3M just doesn’t care about their reputation despite me showing this post to their official 3M Malaysia website.

Hi bro, are you able to find a resolution? i got almost the exact same problem as you. got my 3M tint installed in a 3M authorized tint shop and alot of bubbles appear on my rear windscreen. i went to seek for warranty in the 3M dealer and was told the exact same thing as you, that the demister will be broken if they remove the tint ! I suspect the tint is not original 3M as i am not there when they do the installation. Appreciate your advise if your able to get your matter resolve. Thanks!

Well, you’re not alone. Ever since I started this post I have received no less than 20 ppl PM me telling me they have the same issue from different branches. My conclusion is 95% of the 3M so-called authorised shop selling fake tint.

Just stay away from 3M tint.

Hi any idea how to check my tint is original 3M?
Suspect being cheated..got bubble within a year on rear windscreen. Complained to dealer and was told if claim warranty the rear window heater line will break. Isnt they suppose to protect it? Appreciate your advise guys

No point complaining. I even complained all the way to 3M Malaysia they don’t do anything about it. Just told me that the shop is no longer 3M authorised shop. What a joke.
