why upgrade if satisfied with current rom?

miui 7 to miui 8 does not upgrade the android. Still stuck in 5.1. And some of the features in miui 7 is gone. For some people, their battery drain is worse. So it is not really important to upgrade.

I was reading in miui forum where people keep chasing MI for the update and scolding and yelling and cursing. Threatening to throw the phone away if don't get the upgrade immediately. I am like...WTH? Why so eager to upgrade???

After they come up with the upgrade, they complain and complain about battery drain, features missing, slow and so on...funny people.

As for me, I find MIUI 8 generally smoother. No battery drain for me but maybe cause I don't install many apps on the phone. I also use the mi security feature to stop apps from autostarting. Only what's app is autostarted. The rest no no no. Hehehe....

my usage for 21h 59m 21s on battery...now at 60%. I would say it's good.

anyone manage to solve the fingerprint issue when message come in while phone is lock, cannot unlock with FP. need to turn on the screen, close the message, then only can unlock with FP.

yup set it to sync on wifi only. This is a much better option. Don't turn it off cause it has find my phone feature created by mi. So when you lost your phone you can login to mi cloud to find it or erase the data.

global developer rom is rooted? can unlock bootloader? cause global stable cannot unlock bootloader. Tried so many times.

anyone can advice on the best way to root redmi note 3 sd? I am currently running on global stable which will fail at 50% when I try to unlock bootloader.

Apparently i need to flash to china dev rom then only can unlock bootloader then only can root the phone???? But china dev rom does not have google play which means need to install third party google play apps. I tried doing it once and it hard brick my phone. Luckily send it to warranty and they manage to restore back the phone but they installed global stable again. So I am back to square one.

Anyone have best solution?

so meaning I flash to china dev rom then unlock bootloader then flash back to global stable then root the phone? Lots of steps yo...

that is battery draining issue which is common with android phone. usually it is due to some apps causing it. Or you could be running some sort of app that kill background apps every 5 min or something. Don't use app killer app. It will cause more harm than good. In miui and zenui, there are security app that can disable auto start for apps that you select. So it will never start at all. I only have whatsapp on auto start. The rest is not started.

means after I unlock bootloader, how do I flash back to global stable rom? Or just use cm13?

i have flashed twrp with alka but my data partition cannot mount. Anyone know how to fix this?

manage to get it fixed. I had to reflash with a different twrp and rerun the root. The twrp in the first page is not suitable for marshmallow firmware. I am using lastest china dev rom which is 6.0.1.

the phone definitely is best bang for bucks you can find in malaysia.

My complain is I don't like miui. I am thinking of going for CM13/14 once they manage to get it working almost perfect in redmi note 3. For now, i can still tolerate miui.

Phone performance is upper mid range. But the camera totally sucks. Focus is really bad so you cannot take moving objects well. If camera is important to you then best stay away from this phone. Get zenfone 3 or mi5 which have much better camera.

which gapps is working with the china dev rom? I cant get it working. The google play or framework keep crashing.

I was too lazy to flash back cause i spend so much time doing the research and flashing and failures and so on. Thanks for the comments. Based on the problems with the china dev rom, I will change back to global rom.

can i know how you flash back to global rom? using fastboot? and flash_all.bat? I scared to get it wrong now. Don't wanna brick the phone again....

Damn....i don't really like miui. All the problems is due to miui. If not were for the mi phones to be cheap, i would have bought other brand. Like nexus or something...

Here is my experience with trying to root the phone. Hope it help others trying something adventurous like this and not get into obstables like me.

1) wanted to just ROOT the phone. Not really interested in custom roms or kernels and so on.

2) Read a lot of guides and tutorials with different method of flashing. There are unofficial root method and there are official root method. So I decided to go with official as the unofficial method is said to cause problems.

3) First thing that need to be done is unlocking the bootloader. So I applied for it and got reply after few days. Then try to unlock but stuck in 50% with error saying cannot verify the phone.

4) found out that global stable rom cannot be bootloader unlocked. Need to flash the phone to china dev rom in order to unlock.

5) spend the next few days reading about china dev rom flashing. Only method is using EDL. The latest official miflash does not work for EDL. It cannot detect my phone in EDL. So had to use older version 20151028 for my 64bit windows 10. After may tries, it end up hard bricking my phone. Cannot boot at all. Even tried opening my phone method to unplug the battery and all but still cannot boot. Probably the bootloader is screwed as the EDL flash stopped like 10%.

6) Not sure what caused it but I think it's because of my front USB not working properly. Spend the next week claiming warranty from vendor. Went to claim warranty from Legend mobile. Luckily they manage to reinstall the rom and that guy installed global rom for me (eventhough I asked for china dev rom). Nevertheless, I am still have as the phone is back to normal and I collected the phone 1 week later.

7) Then I tried to flash again. This time I used miflash 20160401 and usb connected to the back. Crossed my finger and it successfully flashed. At last!!!

8) After 1 day checking the phone running fine in the china dev rom, I proceed to unlock bootloader. This time it works! Bootloader unlocked success!

9) Next stage is try to install TWRP and root the phone.

10) tried the TWRP and though not as smooth but it succeed. Root also succeed. Problem here is because china dev rom is using marshmallow. The system is encrypted. TWRP is unable to mount it. Followed some guide and got it working.

11) I was gonna stay with china dev rom until got advice from kawans here that better to use global stable because china dev is very problematic.

12) decided to flash back to global stable. So I used the fastboot method. After flash back, spend the next day using it and all.

13) next stage is to root it. When i try booting to TWRP, it is not showing. It shows mi recovery instead. Looks like TWRP is overwritten when I flash back to global.

14) Nevermind...I will flash TWRP again. But this time it failed. Then found out my bootloader is locked again!! Darn it. Don't tell me all I have done and it's back to square one!!!!!

15) Ok fine...I try to unlock bootloader again. This time it works on global rom. Probably cause once I used the official unlock method, the next time it will work in any rom that I am using.

16) Then install TWRP and root the phone all SUCCESS.

17) Right now, just enjoying the phone in global stable with root.

18) enough of rom flashing for me for now. Took me like few weeks with this. Xiaomi really need to improve their tools for flashing and unlock and recovery.

just a warning....my collegue got issue ordering from lazada. Ordered on sunday and yesterday they said the phone was stolen by the courier boy. The company is running man. And the thing is, the unit is sold by lazada. Now he already cancel the order which need to wait for them to investigate the issue for 15 days. He going to buy from directd.

mi5 is different from rn3. It's high end vs mid end phone. If you can afford the mi5 then get that..much better specs and camera too.

i think RM999 can get you a Samsung J7 which is same spec as redmi note 3 but with much better camera.

For redmi note 3, I would say it is best phone in sub 800 category.

My collegue went to directd to buy the phone but got dupe into buying vivo v3max instead for 1200. Cause they tell him 3gb version of redmi note 3 is RM999 which is out of stock. So add like RM200 more only and get vivo with more ram and faster processor.

But not too bad a deal cause vivo v3max is not a bad phone.
