just ordered a S5 with GTX 1070.. gonna sell off my gaming rig for a gaming laptop...since the performance of mobile gtx 1070 is quite close to desktop counter part..

will try to hook up with my 144hz 1440p monitor and see how it performs..

love that it includes ESS Sabre DAC, can load up my hi-Res music in this baby

Got my S5 this evening..

this thing is heavy, this is my first gaming laptop anyways.

build quality quite good, and for experience technical person, quite easy to add additional ssd, manage to put my 1Tb SSD in this baby with no problem.

love the audio output thru headphone.. very clear and can play my hi-res audio nicely, need to disable SB xFi though,

the speaker on the laptop is tad disappointing, my macbook 12 speaker sounds 10X better..

Gaming, with gtx1070..its quite good and at times better than my current desktop using AMD Fury X..

trying to connect to my 144hz monitor but i think my mini-DP to DP cable is broken, gonna buy a new cable to test whether i can game at 1440p 144hz.. tongue.gif

just ordered myself a s5, went to the show room to take a look but the display laptops are all old models

wanted to test the s5 before buying but the sales person only showed me the non-workable s5 so i only get to see how it looks like
*
i think the look wise is the same as the old one..

after 3 days fully utilising the laptop, i can say this is one powerful laptop for the price..

manage to overclock the gpu by extra 150mhz and stable.. highest was 180mhz..but it was generating alot of heat fast.. so tone it down to 150mhz..which i think is the sweet spot for stability and thermal ...

are you using the older one? does illegear have any software themselves tuning the fans etc? or i have to do this manually or using 3rd party programs
*
dont think its the old one... i just bought like 3 days ago.. GTX 1070 GC

it has a built in software ..quite simple to use..

can specify u want to use optimus (intel + gtx1070 switching) or direct use GTX1070 directly..

use gtx1070 will drain battery quicker though..

yeah i need it for work as well, how's your experience with the battery life for non-gaming session?
*
the battery life..for is ok la.. not that great but not that bad..

getting roughly 2 hours, but i am using GTX1070 directly..not optimus..probably can get more on optimus..

i'm used to my macbook 8-9 hours battery life...

You can enable mshybrid (intel graphics switching) on BIOS.
*

is there any other way or software to do that instead of going to BIOS?
*
u can use the built in app ..its on the windows tray icon..but u still need to restart the laptop..

by the default the MShybrid is enabled

Motherboard might not be compatible for existing users, but we will advise if it's posisble.
ah ok..thanks for the info..

so used to 144hz panel, gaming at 60hz can feel the difference..

btw manage to get around 100-120fps on overwatch using my 144hz 1440p panel.. epic settings with shadow at medium level..100% resolution scaling

Did you check the temperature? I running at low setting with 1070 and has around 50-60 temp. Scared that high temp will damage the hardware.
*
Temp hovering around 85-90C. But so far ok, not having any instabilities. Never go over 90c even after few hours of
Gaming
Ur not really using the full power of the gtx1070 if around that temp.

If im not mistaken.. overwatch stats is CPU temp not GPU.. correct me if im wrong..
*
based when i test using HWMonitor app, the Overwatch temp display matches the GPU temp on HWMonitor..

another reason i think my laptop was having 90 GPU & 100 CPU temp was of my laptop placement.. i put the laptop on top of the velvet cover given, when i elevated the laptop abit, more clearing on the bottom, the temp reduced to 78-85 for the GPU and 86-90 for the CPU..

will try to source a laptop cooler and see whether it makes any more difference in temp..

hi Prince J,

I bought S5 GTX1070 few months ago, just saw that now there's option to upgrade to 120hz panel. Is my laptop able to upgrade to the 120hz Panel?

We never tried that, because it's a very new display option, not sure if it can be swapped. Will update if it's possible.
*
ok.. please do update if can..i am very interested in upgrading mine if the cost is not that high
