just got a raven (cheapest version) but upgraded to i7.. really fast and attractive laptop.

just the keyboard needs getting used to. sometimes key a bit sensitive will accidentally repeat pressing the key twice.

at first i didn't care what is RGB and didn't plan to 'utilize' it however after awhile it feels nice having different color keyboard every day.

what is the use of the type-C usb on the raven ?

can i charge the laptop with my huawei supercharger?
*
Hi hanhanhan, the Type-C port on the Raven is mainly for data transfer and for the laptop, it can be charged only via the dedicated AC power input. Technically, the port is able to handle video output as well but we haven't tested this particular capability for official. More information regarding the port can be found here: https://www.computerworld.com/article/24881...-its-great.html

Hi all, using Illegear S5, the i7-4720hq model with GTX 970M. Was thinking to get a m.2 Sata Sandisk X600 SSD to replace my original 120GB one since i'm running out of space. Just curious if anyone ran into problem with m.2 Sata based SSD. I know there are some bios support problem with m.2 NVME SSD, just curious if SATA based would run into the same problem.
*
Hi BBXiong, based on my experience, the M.2 SATA SSD would be more stable in terms of drive compatibility in comparison to the M.2 NVMe SSD since the interface is much more common amongst legacy devices, hope this clarifies.

At the moment, we have only one service center, which is located at Oval Damansara, KL. Kindly find the location to our place by using this link: https://goo.gl/maps/sPKPTPvm5yv

For the on-site/pickup warranty, we will arrange a pickup courier to collect the laptop from your address in the events of repair/servicing/warranty claiming & vice versa after the maintenance procedure has been completed for your laptop and the courier charges would be free.

Hi nope, cant be something knock on that area as it is so close to tbe screen. If u zoom in bigger u can see that the paint beside the area is starting to have some bubble and I think it will also come out soon.
If I knock on it the paint would have come out immediately without those bubble right? I will show some cleaner picture when I get home. The black paint is like floating on top of the cover.

Hi holymushroom, kindly PM me your serial number, will assist accordingly smile.gif

Do illegear raven has smart charging function?
*
Hi haheho123, the RAVEN does not have smart-charging function but for the laptop, kindly note that it is okay to remain the battery plugged in even while gaming/long term usage since the battery has an overcharging protection mechanism built-in. A tip to extend the battery lifespan: Drain out the battery regularly and then charge up the battery to 100%. 😊✌

Any owners for more than a year here? how's your laptop doing so far? ever since the day i bought my illegear u4 it has been plagued with problems, especially the monitor. and yesterday the monitor just died again for some reason. probably have to send it back to get it fixed again. i think my laptop spent roughly a month getting fixed in a year of purchase.

not sure if it's user problem, or my luck is bad, or i've gotten a lemon unit, or illegear is just unreliable.
*
Hi zstan, I'm truly sorry to see that you are experiencing this problem. I believe our Support Team has contacted you via WhatsApp? If not, you can also PM me your WhatsApp number and we shall arrange for a reverse pickup for your laptop accordingly.

So it's been 1.5 days and my laptop has yet to be collected by GDEX. Have to wait until Monday again and HOPE they turn up. Not sure if GDEX is really so incompetent or illegear customer service is just taking their own sweet time. 😂

Also don't understand why I can't just drop off my laptop at the GDEX office. Maybe I should just pay my own courier fees instead of waiting blindly for the weekend.

Oh well beggars can't be choosers. . 🤭
*
Hi zstan

Firstly, thank you very much for reaching out to us via WhatsApp and also Lowyat to highlight us regarding the GDEX issue. As per checking with the shipping department, the reverse pickup has indeed been arranged on Thursday last week for the event to be scheduled on a Friday using your address details provided, kindly refer below screenshot for the email correspondence:

user posted image

Based on our past experience with GDEX, the reverse pickup will be arranged on the same working day/the following working day after submission and a reference number is generated. However, we understand that the GDEX representative did not show up on your doorstep yesterday and this is indeed unfortunate. As per mentioned via WhatsApp, we would not recommend you to drop the package on the GDEX office since you are not required to perform any payment for the shipping (two-way shipments from East Malaysia are covered by ILLEGEAR) and they might process your item under standard shipment (rather than reverse pickup) by doing so.

We have followed up with them yesterday but we have yet to receive a reference number from their end as of 7:30pm yesterday via phone call. Nevertheless, we shall liaise with them again on Monday to chase and expedite them so that the laptop will arrive on our end immediately for the rectification to be done accordingly, hope this clarifies.

Hi,
This laptop seems really interesting for the features it has.  However, can you check to see if the USB C port works with DisplayPort adapters, basically using Alt-Mode to put out a DP 1.2 signal?  It would really be a big feature for me, as that would mean being able to hook up to more than one monitor using one cable via DisplayPort's MST chaining functionality.  Currently using an old Thinkpad that has a regular mini-DP connector that works really well in this regard.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,
C
*
Hi C,

As per checking with the manufacturer, the Type-C port for the laptop is data only and it is unable to carry video signals for display output, hope this clarifies.

Thank you very much for voicing out your friend's dissatisfaction & I'm truly sorry for upsetting him regarding this whole ordeal. As per checking with our history; the following are the whole story of your friend's RMA:

Screen upgrade - Laptop was originally purchased with a 60Hz screen. The 120Hz variant was available as an upgrade option on the website at RM299 after a few months of your friend's purchase. For existing laptops, the upgrade can also be performed but the pricing would be different since we would have to trade in the old/used 60Hz screen. However, the 120Hz display panel is found to induce a bug related to Windows once the laptop is put to sleep, this only happened to 60Hz-120Hz after-purchase upgrade but not a newly purchased laguna with 120Hz display.

Keyboard base broken issue - In the 2nd RMA, your friend inspected and collected his laptop back with his signature on the report indicating that he has checked the system and received the system in 100% good condition. However, it was reported to us that one of the keycap connector has been damaged and the keycap has popped out from the keyboard the next day after he collected the laptop. We are unsure why this problem wasn't brought up by your friend upon collection because none of our staff / your friend noticed that. However, your friend insisted that ILLEGEAR was the one damaged his keyboard in the RMA process, ILLEGEAR had decided to replace the entire keyboard (keyboard, touchpad, power button, palm rest etc) out of our own pocket as the physical damage is not covered under manufacturer's warranty - Physical damages/cosmetic issues are not covered by the warranty.

Screen broken issue - In the 3rd RMA after we have replaced the keyboard and palm rest, your friend collected the machine with his signature on the report once again indicating that he has checked the system and received the system in 100% good condition. The next day, your friend reported to us that the screen has been broken (check attachment) during the RMA process however the screen was obviously broken after your friend collected the laptop back, such damage should be noticed immediately upon collection. This time ILLEGEAR was not able to cover the broken screen anymore and we settled with covering a partial of the cost for his screen replacement.

Ghosting issue - On-going issue, this is the first case reported by a LAGUNA user and as per checking on our end, there will be a slight retention of image and it will only occur on grey background after displaying a static image on an extended period of time, camera cannot really snap this symptom. The issue was not very apparent and not related to the laptop hardware but software/OS/3rd party app because we have replaced the screen, display cable, motherboard, back panel, RAM, HDD and none of this resolve the ghosting of grey display. We are still trying our best to find out what's the root cause of this weird symptom as this is not related to hardware which can be resolved by simply swapping components.

Regarding the scratch observed on the palm rest area, the laptop was initially sent in by you with some tiny scratches condition. As for the scratch done on our side, I did not recall the issue being highlighted to us by your friend during his visit but to my knowledge, no damage was incurred to any customer's laptop by our side. We will need you to pinpoint on the physical unit to double-confirm the scratch location once the technical team is present next week, we can also check through CCTV if there is misconduct to cause the scratch. However, the technician who is doing your RMA is a very experienced technician and he did not have any record of damaging customer's laptop previously. For every RMA cases, we would request all customers to inspect their machines in full before signing to ensure that the machine is in good condition without any physical/cosmetic damages present.

Hi zstan kindly note that for your laptop, we have performed a complete display panel and battery unit replacement this time instead of a repair to avoid similar issues from happening again in the future. The laptop has been shipped out and the tracking number has been given to your WhatsApp number for reference, all the best ya & truly sorry for the troubles.

Hi haheho123 I believe in this case, a manual reinstallation for the Control Center would be necessary. Kindly find the application, which can be retrieved of the driver suite for ILLEGEAR Raven from this link: http://illegear.com/drivers/Raven_coffee.rar

For extracting the archive, kindly use this software: http://www.7-zip.org/download.html

So my laptop is finally back after a week in the workshop. But it was sent back without my charger. Not sure whether to laugh or cry.
*
Hi zstan, we have just double-checked the CCTV footage during the unboxing performed and there was no adapter present when our staff was performing the unboxing of your U4. We can also confirm that the pouch used is quite tight and we would notice if the charger is present inside because of the added material on the pouch. However, the pouch is flat upon receiving without any adapter inside. Should you wish to obtain the CCTV snapshot, we can PM you personally because it is quite confidential for us to post it publicly, hope this clarifies.

Hi Brian, I would recommend opting for a model with at least GTX 1050Ti for GPU for best results for Fortnite, here's a reference page for you to use to check the average performance benchmarks across multiple systems: https://www.notebookcheck.net/Fortnite-Note...s.280552.0.html

Thanks for the tip. Will try.
Sorry i should have recorded myself packing the laptop into the box. And taking every wrapping for each step that i've done. Lesson learnt. Thinking back I probably wrapped the charger in the newspapers instead of stuffing it in the pouch. Did you guys check the newspaper wrappings or threw it all away? I don't know about Illegear but other companies i've dealt with will confirm with the client on the contents when they received the package. My bad for not reminding Illegear staff to double confirm the contents when the laptop arrived at your facility.

But the main issue now is how can a laptop manufacturer like Illegear run out of the most basic peripherals at their facility? Your staff even had to borrow another staff's charger? Wow. What happens if Shima decided to resign one day and the next day a customer with a U4 sends his laptop in with a faulty battery. Are you going to tell the customer to wait for 4 weeks for you guys to order a charger first? Unbelievable.
*
Hi zstan, we are not sure why you are reacting in this way despite we have verified that the adapter was not received on our end during the time of unboxing. By observing the CCTV footage, we also did not notice any traces of newspaper inside the box.

As for our colleague's laptop, the device is a company asset regardless of her resignation/availability. Nevertheless, we shall assist you accordingly regarding any issues for your laptop since the laptop is still covered under warranty and should you wish to obtain the CCTV footage, we can provide to you via WhatsApp as well, hope this clarifies.

is Raven Kaby Lake version able to upgrade its mechanical keyboard to the new version?

Hi trollminator, for the keyboard panel, we could not upgrade as the newer generation keyboard is not compatible to be installed onto the existing Kabylake panel (difference in hook & connectors).

How's the fan noise of selenite compare to onyx? Gaming on the onyx is quite annoying due to the noisy fan, everytime I play game people around me will thought that it's raining lol
*
Hi cts0418 the vents on the Selenite is wider and circulation area is much more spacious; this is because of the larger form factor of the laptop compared to the Onyx. However for a proper comparison of the audible fan noise, I would recommend you to compare the two models physically on our showroom, which is located at Oval Damansara, KL. Hi.
I need some suggestions and considering to own an Illegear notebook but I am confused with the available models.

Budget: 5k to 6k. Willing to stretch above 6k if the specs are great.
Purpose: Work with some medium programming and occasional AAA gaming (and I am not into super competitive gaming).

Specs required:
i7-8750H (or equivalent desktop CPU)
8Gb RAM
GTX 1060 6Gb
1TB HDD (or SSHD) + about 256 SSD (not sure if I should get NVME)
IPS Display and high sRGB.
15inch display (I could consider 17 inch)

Weight and battery life are secondary.

I have plans to use an external IPS monitor, maybe GSync. So I think I need DP (or a miniDP). Do I really need USB-C and Thunderbolt 3?

Thanks.

Wow! Thanks! Great stuff. I need to review these.

If I don't upgrade to 144Hz, what would be the refresh frequency for each of the models?

The free 2TB HDD upgrade etc, are these available only on your website? How about your online shop on popular ecommerce platforms?
*
For the default variant of the screens (either Full HD or 4K for the Raven Elite), the refresh rate would be 60Hz.

In regards to the free upgrades, the promotion is offered on our online store as well, which you are able to browse by following this link: https://store.illegear.com/

Yes, i was mentioning that the promotion is offered on your online store but I couldn't find them on the ecommerce platforms. Can you please share with me which are the platforms? Lazada? 11street?

For the Onyx & Laguna Kabylake, the default refresh rate for the screens are also 60Hz but for Laguna with Coffeelake processors, we only have one screen variant and it would be 144Hz by default.

We do offer our laptops officially on eCommerce platforms but the same freebies might not be applicable as our online store. Kindly find the links for our Lazada & Shopee stores as listed below:
