thats why i'm not bothered to upgrade the firmware unless there is further improvement on the camera/music player.
whatever other 'bugs' there are now i can live with as it doesnt affect anything.

Just a general question for K800i users, is there any dislikes so far in using this phone? as in it's size, buttons, functions and all.

Planning on getting one and hope i won't regret..
*
for me, the size of the phone is ok.
what i dont like is the number keys placed so low, makes typing sms with 1 hand harder.

i hardly use the 3G also, unless someone here got some cun chick to intro to test video calls tongue.gif

why is the stupid firmware update so dumb.
the changelog for R1ED001 says this.
- SEUS update only: You must now press the Internet key for a couple of seconds to bring up the browser. This is to prevent accidental connection to the Internet.

so means if you dont use SEUS and go service center instead, that one doesnt apply...
which is irritating me, i just touch the internet key only browser come up.

someone should do a FAQ tongue.gif

battery life short? turn off 3G.

using crystal case? camera shots with flash got gray areas? cos its the fugly design.
there are 2 designs, get this one.
http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?act=Atta...=post&id=136648

or you can cut off that strip between the lens and flash yourself on the fugly design.

I think you have misinterpreted what I have said. I was saying that if you don't need to use 3G, then better save the money to get a normal phone. It's that simple. What's there gotta do with my parents? Use 3G only mah, the charges ain't that expensive if compared to the price you're paying for your K800i.  tongue.gif  Come on, lets be realistic, Maxis or Celcom ain't forcing ya to use 3G, if you feel that it's expensive, then don't use lor but seriously, as a new user of K800i, you should try every each and every function of your phone, you wouldn't know if it's working or faulty unless you try them all. Anyway, for making a video calls, just use your free bluetooth headset, PV-705 which comes free with every K800i (Midland set) till end of this month, that's what I call utilizing our resources.  thumbup.gif
1st, K790 isnt officially available here, if so i'm sure most would buy it.
2nd, i would say most ppl here are buying the phone based more on its camera and multimedia functions.

my first 3G phone was the Nokia 6630, almost 2yrs ago.
that time also 3G was nothing great, just using to watch TV once in awhile.
now also nothing much has changed.
thats why my 3G is always turned off, and i only turn it on when i need it.
else to me its just a stupid waste of battery.

i would like to say something about the 3G debate here.

before that, maxis video call rates are the same as voice calls. check their webpage.

i guess some people bought this phone for the camera and not because of 3G. i would say i bought it for both. the front camera is crappy, yes, but there are somethings that can't be conveyed by voice itself. for example, a happening gig. you can tell people how great it is but it is up to the person's imagination to imagine how the crowd must have been etc. here's where the video call comes into play. just use the back camera and show it to the person!
*
yea, but remember 3G works both ways.
meaning the guy must have a 3G phone too.
right now the only ppl i know who have 3G phones are the ppl i buy handphone stuff from in the pasar malam tongue.gif

I'm just curious lor, why can't the 3G be left untouched, I mean it's faster to send a MMS, download a game or two, surf the net, etc with 3G isn't it? Besides, there are no additional charges for this, it will be the same rates like GPRS since we're not talking about video calls or any value added 3G services. Battery life is not that bad, my 3G is on everyday but the bluetooth is switched off as I only use the bluetooth headset when I'm driving. It's a hassle to carry the bluetooth headset with me, it's like carrying a hearing aid. It's freaking big and bulky.  sweat.gif
actually, for MMS you wont notice much of a difference.
GPRS data transfer speeds is around 32-48k/s, of cos nowhere as fast as 3G but about same as local broadband.
unless of cos you're sending like a 10mb file, which then if using MMS to send is just plain dumb.
also if not mistaken, websites you surf the images are lower quality so they load faster even with GPRS, again wont notice much of a difference.
you will only really notice it when it comes to streaming video, thats where 3G comes into play...which for me is for streaming TV only...cartoon network ftw tongue.gif

btw, some ppl have said with 3G on their battery only lasts 1 day.
with it off, can last 3 days.

now, i wonder, why my midland set that i bought with clareen...
the IMEI not same as box...
she really make me doubt about it...
do i need to change with her to the same box??..
i guess not rite...

there is 1 problem that i also doubt...
my phone 'total time call' seem to be not same as 'call timer' in time & cost...
it seem like it multiply or i dunno what...
because when i first bought the phone...
i used it in less than 1hour... but in total time call seem to be 5hour plus...

now....
call timer = 11:00:21
total call time =49:06:13

why mehh???
*
all midland/authorized set the imei on phone and box must match.

just giving her benefit of the doubt here, but maybe its a display set and she put in wrong box.
if midland set also your warranty card should have the midland chop on it.

and your total call time so much? wah talk damn alot on it tongue.gif
my phone about 5 months only and my total call time also never reach near half of that.
but really makes you wonder how 'new' that phone is.

and yea, 900mAh also is original.
go check gsmarena.com specs for K800i, they state 900mAh BST-33 for the battery, perhaps later batches got the 950mAh.

maybe your set is midland, but recon set?
maybe thats why the box doesnt match? battery also not original etc.

k edited.
anyway the pics of my batt below.

its already been stated in the old version thread, that both 900 and 950 are original.
if you go check gsmarena.com review they also state 900 in the specs.

btw, for that AP battery charging prob...first time i hearing of it:P
i got a AP W800 also, no such problem.

i think ppl all too busy on his battery case...
that all forgot that his total call time for a 'new' phone is almost 50hrs.
and for a 'new' midland set, the box imei can be different.

that to me sounds more like a refurbished phone.

easiest way to see if really got multiplier...
is of cos to see the total call time, then make a 1 min call and see what it is after that right?
so lets wait for him and see.
