I plan to buy either psp or nds lite to bring to australia, however I don't know which one to choose
here's a small list of each of them in my heart:

psp-
able to play ps1 games (ps1 emulator woot... tested on my bro's psp, very chun)
metal gear solid PO
ffvii crisis core (in the future)
more expensive

nds-
more game choices?
resident evil deadly silence
final fantasy iii
dragon quest ix (in the future)
cheaper

so hard to choose...

Coming from me, a PSP and DS lite owner, PSP has no games but ports lololol.

Stop being a squeenix jay-ARR-PEE-GEE fag. Final Fantasy series aren't really that great. The resident evil game for the DS reeks of poo poo. Don't play it. Fails for not mentioning all the awesome games the DS has in store, like Phoenix Wright (it's an awesome god in handheld form), Ouendan, Mario Kart, New super mario bros, Meteos, Puyo Puyo 15th anniversary, Metroid Prime Hunters, Castlevanias, Dragon Quest rocket slime, etc.

Get both. Problem solved.

I can't really get both, hence this topic was created smile.gif

infested, stop being a /v/tard.
No big deal if he prefers JRPGs to WRPGs.
They're both vastly different games with vastly different play styles. Who are you to choose what he should play?
And yes, I have played (and finished) BG2, NWN, Planescape (I bet you'll be harping about this one next). I also finished FFXII recently. Zomg.
With that faggotry aside...

IMO, the DS will have a bigger and better game library in the future, and I think FFXII Agito something will be released for the DS as well.

Honestly, the PSP doesn't have that many games, and if you don't care for better graphics / media centre capability / emulation, and just want to play new games, get a DS.

If you want emulation/portable media centre, get a PSP.

Well, if you're into RPGs......... the DS has more RPG games than the PSP....... though its somewhat lacking in the action part, that is mainly for the PSP.........

Oh yeah, speaking of "action", the PSP allows you to look more "action" to your friends/colleagues.

Personally, I chose the DS for the games - but if you want more flexibility go for the PSP.

Because my opinons are superior. lawl. I do play them RPG too. Started FF12 last month, now somewhere mid the mid game. Yes, some 2D sprite based expansion for FF12 would be out for the DS sometime soon (oh god I can be gay for Balthier on my DS too!)

For the portable media part, the DS can do it too. Just get a flashcart (bet most local DS owners would already have one), and it can do all the media stuffs the PSP can (mp3, pictures, video to some extent), minus the PC-PSP streaming thing, camera, gps, rss feed.

Buying a handheld console to show off to stupid friends.... right. You don't do that unless you're 12 or something.

And yes, just trust us on this: PSP has no games, DS has tonnes of new games. loads of your oh so wonderful RPGs on the PSP are silly direct ports (Breath of Fire 3, Magna Carta lol). Go watch some gameplay videos of some psp games and see if you like it enough to justify the puchase of one (watching promo vids of Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops, DJ Max portable on youtube, and realising that one can play superior shooters like Dimahoo, Progear on a PSP via emulation made me bought one)

hmm infested u seem to be flaming more than helping the topic creator with your ignorant bias views. Anyways, iori57, if you want massive homebrew capability, FFVII Crisis Core, GTA, MGS, Tekken then go for the graphically more superior PSP. If you enjoy touchscreen interactive gameplay (ala with the stylus pen), Mario, Metroid, Pokemon, FF Crystal Chronicles, Dragon Quest then go for the uniquely interactive DS (Lite). Anyways since its hard for you to choose, why don't you get a DS Lite, then whenever theres a PSP game that you want to play, get it then play it on your brother's PSP? A win-win situation i have to say thumbup.gif

Well, I was thinking action games is more like in the realms of Metroid Prime Hunters, Sonic Rush etc........ super mario bros/castlevania is classified more of a platformer game

Even if the DS have many action games now, not all of them are good....... the 'lacking' part I'm referring to........

But even if there isn't many good action games...... there's still the many RPGs to suck all your free time Iori57 thumbup.gif

Don't buy any handhelds and save RPGing for NWN2 premium modules in the future.

Neverwinter Nights 2.

And Lumines- even though I now play Lumines Live!, the PSP version got me stuck to it. I dunno, but it was executed with perfect style. After commercial crapbags and ripoffs came, the original was still awesome.

psp is superior than nds in term of performance, lcd screen etc etc but i do agree nds have more games but not all people enjoy the games on nds. if u somehow want to store videos, pictures, mp3, then psp is the way because the big lcd screen helps.

I love the big screen,
So fresh and so clean.

And make me wanna scream.
PSP! PSP! PSP! PSP! PSP! PSP! PSP! PSP!
Games so crazy,
They totally amaze me.
Gotta ask my mom for one.
For shizzy.
PSP! PSP! PSP! PSP!
All I want for Christmas is my PSP,
When I play it when I'm walking down the street,
All I want for Christmas is my PSP.
Tell my mom and dad, 'Get one fo me.'

hi guyz....its been a while since I played games (6 months bcoz of working) and now I'm missing the feeling of spending hours and hours of playing and competing with other players.

I've considered on buying next gen console, but I think handheld console is the way to go for me since I'm usually working outstation and it will be a hassle to carry the console (of course will not play the game during ofice hours..hehe)

What I'm looking is a console with capability for online gaming and huge collection of games..can either psp and nds provide this??..After reading through this thread, someone mention that psp did not have a lot of new games compare to nds..is it true? does this mean that psp is dying??

I'm really particular on spending my hard earn money, so I can only afford one gaming console right now...if the handheld can't gimme the satisfication of online gaming, I guess xbox360 is the only way to go...too bad then, coz I only be able to play it if I'm not working outstation.

At this moment now, the DS has got a wider range of games (for the handheld itself, not including games from other devices exp: GBA, Homebrew) compared to the PSP....... at this moment now, I don't think the PSP is dying, probably just moving at a slow rate :/

However, in the end..... its really what type of games and how do you want your games to look like (if you really need your games to look about up to par with today's 3D graphics, then go for a PSP)......

i'm also in the dilemma of psp vs nds.

my main concern is the price of the games itself. either psp or nds ori games will cost more than 100 bucks each.

so my question is, psp vs nds, which one can have more ahem (emulation/homebrew/download/ported...whatever u call it) games and is more stable playing these ahem games.

pls advice.

Hmm i just read a news somewhere that sony is planning psp v2, which is smaller version of psp (same screen size).. so perhaps you shud take that into account when comparing psp (v1) vs. ndsl (nds v2)...

Another one of these threads? There's a comprehensive DS FAQ in the Nintendo thread, and a buying guide in the PSP thread. DO some reading guys!

Jeez, you remind me of my ex-students:

"encik, macam mana nak carik abc?"
"encik, di mana saya nak carik xyz?"

Get a DS for strictly gaming. Go with a PSP if you also like to watch movies, listen to MP3s, etc.

Let me elaborate. In case you didn't know, PSP had carried a bad stigma all this time by Sony's own ineptitude. They figured they should cripple the PSP's video playback capabilities by limiting videos stored on Memory Sticks to 320x240 rez, at bitrate even worse than VCDs. They did so to hawk repackaged movies on UMD.

But no longer. A few months ago Sony came out with firmware 3.03 which has basically lifted this limitation. This means you can now create and playback video clips of 480x272 (native rez) encoded in AVC (H.264) with AAC. And with firmware 3.30 just released end of March, you can even play 720x480 rez videos, and as a bonus, get better PSOne support.

Aiyah, what he's trying to say is that, there's plenty of information to be found in console couch itself. First, there's a pinned thread here in CC called PSP First Time Buyers Guide, it may be somewhat old, but it's pretty informative for a newbie. Then, in the Nintendo subforum, there's a thread called FAQ for DS, which includes most of the Q&A's that you have, if not, ask there.

Another point Lord_Ashe was trying to make, I assume, was that everyone should have their own preference on which handheld device they want. Game? Media? Bla bla bla, you choose le. You expect us to persuade your opinion on which is better? (well.. a little help COULD be done)..

[Edit] LOL, didn't know I resurrected an old argument notworthy.gif

did you check australia prices?
here in malaya its kinda expensive.
anyone know how much is the official sony ones?

pre hack is 100+ more expensive. while the psp itself is 100+ more expensive than US and japan.
and you unlikely will get a warranty buying from importers. which is quite important if you wanna hack the psp. if it bricks you can play dumb and get it changed drool.gif
