Hi, need some advices / idea from sifu here

Plan to upgrade my ancient computer (7 years) so that it could serve me for another 2-3 years, mainly used for internet surfing, downloading, light gaming and watch movie/drama.

Budget: 700-1k

Below are the specs:
PSU: Huntkey Green Star 450W
MOBO: MSI G31M3-L V2 (MS-7529)
Processor: Core 2 Duo E7500 @ 2.93GHz
GPU: NVidia Geforce 9500GT 512MB GDDR3 128Bit
1TB HDD
4GB DDR2 RAM
Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio
21.5 Inch Samsung Monitor (DVI)

Will a Core 2 Quad processor, new GPU or SSD improve the computer performance in gaming and watching 1080p video?

Sorry for my noob questions.
Any suggestion and advice is appreciated.
Thanks

What games do you play?

Sorry for late reply.
I wish to play those games smoothly, not necessarily in 1080p:

Tale of Wuxia

Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed

Final Fantasy X HD Remastered

Street Fighter IV and V (V not sure can run or not)

Dota 2

LOL

Diablo 3

Is NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 compatible with my current MOBO?

It is compatible but GTX560 is nowhere to be found now (unless used unit), same goes to Core 2 Quad.

A complete overhaul will require a larger amount of budget, so try to search for used Core 2 Quad CPU, should be around RM 150 (depends on which variant and version you found), then the rest of the budget can be used to get a 120GB SSD (for OS and a more responsive system) and new GPU.

Something like this will do:
1. Used Core 2 Quad (~ RM 150)
2. 120GB SSD (~ RM 200)
3. GTX750Ti (example, ~ RM 500)

Add another 4GB RAM if needed (recommended, 4GB is barely enough nowadays with Chrome and Firefox being a memory hogger  sweat.gif )

I see. Can I add another 4GB RAM to my MOBO? If not mistaken, my MOBO can support maximum only 4GB.

I had a check at Etech Lelong page:

GIGABYTE GEFORCE GTX 750TI OC 1GB GDDR5 128BIT (N75TOC-1GI) - RM472
PALIT GEFORCE GTX 1050 STORMX 2GB GDDR5 128BIT - RM579

Is 450W enough to power them? Thanks laugh.gif

Oops, sorry, I overlooked the specs, 4GB seems to be the maximum supported memory size  sweat.gif

Yes your current 450W PSU is able to power them up, GTX1050 seems more worth in this case  biggrin.gif

Thanks for your advice.

Seperately.

Heck the 500 bucks motherboard i bought only comes with 2 sata cable.... damn cheapskate

Alternatively u can buy a m.2 SSD and slot direct into your mobo (if supported by the mobo)

Thanks for reply, My MOBO cant support la cos already 7 years old. The power cable used to power HDD same with SSD right?
