You just missed the cheap AC68U's alternative, the Huawei WS880  tongue.gif

Asus Merlin firmware is nicer than other firmware (other brands), many features are being offered as well including games boost mode, adaptive QoS which you can use to prioritize the traffic to your games, I feel like banging the wall every time I see the green and simple interface of TP-LINK router, too get used Asus already  sweat.gif

C7 is able to handle 8 devices at the same time but might have problem when there is a lot of traffics to handle because the latest V2 only comes with a single core CPU. AC68U carries a dual core CPU (800MHz) and is having the similar chipset with the one in WS880 which only costs RM 199 few weeks ago. Another option would be C9, around RM 700 and is even faster than AC68U (1GHz dual core AC 1900).

Changing the router will not guarantee to have significant improvement to gaming as there are many factors that can contribute to bad latency, WiFi band/interference/bandwidth hogger/ISP etc. If you have tested the latency when using LAN cable and found no issue then high chance it can be solved by getting a high end router.

tell me more about this recent WS880 RM 199? now only 1 lelong seller for RM400

I read abit on the Huawei WS880 thread. It does not have external antennas and I'm not sure if this will affect performance. It is selling for RM299 now...

Guess I will be getting an Asus brand router due to the better interface and the adaptive QoS which looks really simple to use. Does adaptive QoS really work by putting gaming at the highest priority?

Did some research on the internet that there is an actually a C1 revision of Asus AC68U which has 1GHz processor instead of 800MHz. Can we get this in Malaysia?

Btw, what router are you using?

what about this Xiaomi Mi Router 3 AC

Laser printer
Can someone recommend me a laser
b/w a4 prints only,
medium usage
replacement toner must be cheap
full duplex or copier is nice but not necessary but would be willing to pay extra if its not too expensive.

previously saw lots of people recomend i think its a fuji or xerox unit, now discontinued, i think the printer was around RM200 and the replacement toners were very very cheap like RM50

hi terrence

psu mod

im thinking of modding a old free psu to power DC stuff like cordless drill or a dc fan, dc motor,

if my psu has 2x 12V rails but are say 15A each (each rail will provide 180W) that should be enough, but to be safer can i loop both 12 v rail together in parallel? so it will be 360W ie 12V with max 30A?

or is it possible to put 2x old psu in parallel each psu only has 1x 12v 15A? combine then together 12V and 30A max

so getting RX470 is much worth it compare to entry level 1060? Zotac 1219, Palit 1060 1249? hmm.gif

Look for Lazada/GemFive coupon code, you can get discount up to RM 250 with item > RM 1250, so you might end up buying the card at just slightly above 1k, I have seen few people bought their GTX1060 (Zotac Mini and Palit Dual Fan) at just RM 10xx 2 weeks ago.

If you want to get at retail shop (cash and carry), then RX 470 4GB is more budget friendly for those with limited budget (< 1k) or looking for cheap performance card.

You get what you pay for, so technically RX470 won't be able to beat GTX1060 in terms of raw performance, including the entry level one (level doesn't really matter since entry level is still having same GP106 chipset, only the clock speed and cooling solution aren't the same compared to high end model), it is all about your budget, if got budget and willing to spend extra for it then go ahead.
*
there is currently a 25% off coupon in gemfive, max discount Rm200, min purchace i think its RM300
code 25scb
condition = only be used on standard charted cards.

maybe you can find a RM800 rx470 or a RM1000 gtx1060

there was a wrong listed yesterday someone manage to get a 2tb Toshiba portable 2.5" usb3 for RM200 after glitch price and bank discount, he got 3 units. not sure if it was canceled.

----update - the items got voided, well that was expected. The old lazada would had honored the purchase, and even if they void the order, they would had given user a sorry voucher RM30-50

GTX1060 performs better in DX11/OpenCL titles while RX480 excels in DX12/Vulkan titles, both have pros and cons.
*
i read a few reviews which says the same thing, but i didnt notice if its because nvidia got outdated drivers?
if nvidia updates its drivers it will run dx12/vulkan fast??
or is it just a hardware issue?

Yeah, i saw Palit 1060 Jetstream priced 1349 become RM1149 after discount.
However there was no Radeon card available.
Just that i wonder anybody have experienced warranty/rma claim after buying using lazada/gemfive.
if there is RX470 sub 800 or rx480 sub 1k, i will definitely will buy it.
but if there is none available, might as well pay extra for gtx1060 at 1149.

p/s: where did you find the coupon? brows.gif  brows.gif
*
There is a loophole, if you cant find a listing brows.gif brows.gif

Pretty sure this violates the gemfive (platform) conditions for both seller and buyer, but as long as both parties seller and buyer agree before hand, gemfive does not need to know, and make sure you pick a reputable seller

i have heard people buy a item at similar price and get an exchange later on successfully
Its kind of like buying a store credit in advance to utilize coupon discount, then use the full credit to buy something else.
eg in gemfive buy RM1000 item use -RM200 coupon, pay RM800. Go to store say you got RM1000 credit and use it.

i tried to do this when they had that 30% voucher to buy some nice speakers, but in the mids of extended nego time due to hari raya and stock check, the voucher expired sleep.gif
vendor = GAMEHYPERMART is open to the idea. some other power tools hardware shops also cthardvare or colora etc......
their comments are = putting listings on gemfive is harder/longer then lazada/11street, strict verification process....

1)You must contact seller in advance, eg find they shop name and google it, the popular ones are on 11street, lelong, lazada too usually with the same name, once you find the company look at their listings on other platform, they usually have a full listings.
sometimes they use a different company name, (see below for details on retailer names)
2)once you contact them say you want to purchase rx470 but no listing in gemfive, ask them very nicely to buy something they have listing on gemfive that is similar in price. then pay the difference to the acc directly, dont ask for a refund as its a hassle for them.

look in the Gemfive thread, read 1st page for more useful details on retailer names and discount coupons
https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/3995400/+1220&#entry81272116
the lazada thread one is not as popular now due to stingy coupons
https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/3947829/+1980&#entry81269765

few months back i got a k70 mechanical keyboard from GAMEHYPERMART use that 30% voucher, later contact them and say i want to swap to a slightly different model, blue to brown switches instead, the listing was same price, they where ok about it.

SSDNow out of stock for both 120GB and 240GB, they replaced my 240GB with Adata-Premier-SP550-240GB for free.

Note that TechView will install windows 10 for u  biggrin.gif
Demand for Zotac GTX750Ti 2GB GDDR5 Single Fan is very high. they have a lot stock ordered
*
wow they still install windows 10 for free, i though they did it coz it was had free upgrade from windows 7.
they install win7 then upgraded to win10 for the 2 pc i bought last early in the year.

the ssdnow kingston V400 should be better then Adata, it still uses Toshiba(fast) nand for now , they may sawp it out to a cheaper/slower nand later on like what they did with V300 series

2. just wondering how it will compare to a laptop? i'm using an i7 16gb dell xps 13. haven't really played around with many desktops so i'm curious.

*
Assuming your laptop is the 2016 model,
your CPU is most likely going to be a i7-6560U, which is 2C, 4T, max speed 3.2ghz
A desktop cheapest i3 6100 will beat your laptop i7 in terms of pure cpu performance, it has 2c, 4t, and runs at 3.7ghz

also your laptop uses DDR3, desktop will be using DDR4

But your laptops 512 GB NVMe Samsung PM951 SSD is very fast, beats normal Desktop ssd anyday

Well you cannot compare a PC monitor with TV though, they are aiming at different customers, resolution is not the only thing that matters.

Not everyone is looking to browse FB/Lowyat Forum on a 42" TV, it is just too big and uncomfortable to me, and 4K is an insane resolution to drive even with GTX1080/Titan Pascal  tongue.gif
*
QUOTE(MeToo @ Nov 17 2016, 11:13 AM)
Its like saying a Merc S600 is too big so must stick with a C200 even if its more expensive  dry.gif

Anyway, I agree for monitor due to its close proximity PPI might be more of a consideration then just 4K... I need to get 800mm depth just for the 27" monitor (also I like to rest my entire forearm on the table for comfort).

so i guess my pipe dream of upgrading my monitor remains that... especially with our awesome ringgit
*
i too though about getting a 42 4k tv for a monitor,
there the thing, monitors are usually placed just over 2 feet away, about a arms length,
with a 42 inch monitor you need to put it about 4-5 away thats if you have the space.
set the screen resolution to run at 1080 or just over that, dont set it to 4k else everything is too tiny to see.

i find reading a distance of 2 arms lengh is much easier compared to 1 arms length, as your eyes focus point is far and relaxed.

[RM300-RM400]
[24"]
[matt]
[Location] MLK

thank you.
*
RM300-400 for a 24" screen is a budget screen most probably get a basic TN panel with no features.

look for a flicker free monitor if you feel dizzy.

BenQ EW2440
i currently using this model, matt, flicker free, blue screen filter, va panel for best contrasts (good viewing angle too) all the specs that makes good reading monitor

http://www.lazada.com.my/benq-ew2440zh-238...ck-8888865.html

shipping is expensive, wait for 12.12 or Christmas sale for cheaper.

i7 6800K requires mild overclocking to match the single core performance of i7 6700K thanks to the higher stock clock speed of 6700K, if the apps/games you use is heavy on single core (or single threaded) then 6700K will pull ahead of 6800K in stock speed, 6800K will edge out only when multithreaded operation/process is involved.

If you plan to play games on 1080p resolution only then don't spend too much on GPU, there are various videos showing resolution bottleneck symptoms (1080p) on high end Pascal card on YouTube (like Digital Foundry), you are strongly recommended to DSR to push more graphics details and better image render in games when going for GTX1070/GTX1080 (or higher).
*
This DSR, is just a software thing right? no need gsync monitor?
are you recommending for people with normal 1080 monitor, just get gtx1060 and push DSR for best bang/buck rather getting gtx1070

Speed wise is almost identical as they are using SATA 3 and is being limited by the speed of SATA 3, unless clearance is an issue, I don't see any reason to pick the M.2 over the 2.5".

If you transfer data between two 950 Pro then you will benefit from the speedy I/O specs (provided you aren't being bottlenecked by other I/O like RAM and system cache size), if you transfer from (or to) 950 Pro to 850 Evo (example), then you will experience slightly faster transfer speed in the first few seconds (thanks to system cache), then eventually it will drop to SATA 3 speed as the 850 Evo couldn't catch up the speed of 950 Pro and 950 Pro will have to wait for the data to finish copy to 850 Evo first before continue.

And for the performance in games, well it depends on the file block design of the game files, if they are broken into small pieces then the one with higher sequential 4K read will win the competition, and no doubt 950 Pro will win it in this comparison, same goes to all the other categories, but the problem is "is it worth the extra money for a shorter loading time (for like few seconds only?)?"  tongue.gif

what about the recent

Price very similar to the 850 evo.
surely the intel has better performance vs 850evo?
