Hello guys. Would like to ask about lightweight shoes for tempo speed training. Has anyone wear Hoka Tracer before? Is it a good investment or i should look for other brand & model instead?

All my current shoes are heavy shoes mainly use to log mile. Now i wanted to lower my fm time, thinking to invest in something that more suitable for a bit of speed training

If you have a pair of neutral feet then these two shoe are good
Brooks Launch 4, Saucony Kinvara 8
*
Yes I have a neutral feet. Im running on supernova glide 8 at the moment. Do you think the kinvara 8 is a good rotation for speed training or go for launch 4?

for me Kinvara 8 was good at everything
for training or into marathons .. price tag is pocket friendly, if you still able to get on kinvara 7 price might be interesting to own a pair
launch series was bit too stiff at the toe box area but shoe sole are lasting compared to kinvara 8

Thanks a lot for being helpful notworthy.gif

Shin Splints pain occur at the below pic

so you need to identified the area of pain to determine the injuries that you have there

for myself it usually in the inner side of leg like the left leg of the picture above. I have been out from running almost a year last time just because of this. Now I have been more careful every time i feel something in that part. Usually I will slow down my pace, take smaller stride, and gentle landing on every run it will go away eventually without putting me out from running.

Yeah man! Was so excited this morning for the "first run"... thought my muscles will still have the memory of running a few years back, so did a quick run after some simple stretching session...
bottom of my foot started to ache around 1.5km into the run, perhaps a little too intense for my feet after a long break, or could be the shoes  hmm.gif

Guess my engine need to start a bit slowly after the super loooong years of break  blush.gif  read somewhere when picking up running again, majority of the first few session had to be more on walking to get muscles back into the form and some short runs in between.
*
You are right.

You will feel it when you are ready to do more run later.

Be real careful & enjoy your run.

How much gain achieved when running in those RM300++ shoes (above mentioned) compared to those ~RM60?
*
If you are doing more run. The 60 shoes will give you a lot of trouble later on.

You want to focus enjoying your run not trouble yourself with footwear.

For recreational run, its fine

hmm.. average running ~21km per week, trouble mentioned here is referring to injuries related to leg?
*
Mainly injuries.

But there is other thing that will bother you like the shoe get hot (not enough ventilation), blister, not enough grip in several surface (low quality outsole), not enough cushions etc etc. Like i said it keep bothering you. Soon you will be thinking to get a better one. It's already a waste of money.

All this will lead to injuries if you run a lot or run hard actually.

I take it as consistent 21km every week. You better invest in properly designed shoes for running. 21km/week is enough to get you injuries unless you are experienced runner which mean you already have an efficient stride.

Yes, consistently, I have a tight budget, any recommended shoes for runner like me. Estimated the shoe can last for.
*
There is a lot of sales now as mentioned here. You can get a good running shoes with the price slightly over RM200 or even less.

Take note to this, are you overpronator, neutral, or underpronator? Do you have wide or narrow toe? What is your bmi? Have you experienced any injuries from running before?

A proper running shoes will last very long, unlike those RM60 shoes.

Wanna ask, what do you use to protect the phone from sweat or rain when running? I couldnt find any that can seep into my wrist band  hmm.gif

Wrap it with transparent plastic. Your phone is safe from sweat in arm/wrist band

for sub5 FM your HM must be in between 2:15hrs ~2:30hrs and different people will have different fitness regarding on the distance
let's say i can run 2hrs HM but i cant not run 4:30hrs in FM .. result may various
*
I can agree with you. FM is totally different event which require mostly endurance not like hm & below. 2.15-2.30hrs fm are manageable. Will train and hope for the best. Thanks man.

if you comfortable stick at pace 6:20mins/km for 20~25km most likely sub5 FM is confirmed as 6:20mins pace is 4:30hrs FM but anything beyond 30km is still unknown due to fitness

Thanks. Valuable info

km/pace:  1km/5.16, 5km/5.38, second 5km/6.02, third 5km/6.50 (at 13km pace 7.37) from 10 to 15km up hills,, after that many slow jog, walking, play handphone
*
That just too fast for sub 5. Maybe you target much lower then that. The 1st km tells you are in the front of the line.

I always have trouble to get front spot on the start line causing lot of lose time. Not dare to go to the front as im slow. 10k pb barely sub 50 min

Just bought a pair of the new Asics Fuzex Rush a couple of weeks ago and it's safe to say that it is a superb running shoes. I'm lovin' it !  rclxm9.gif

I wore Puma before and it doesn't give enough comfort and protection to the inside of the foot.

Nice shoe. May i know what puma's model you wore before?

Thinking of getting the speed 500 ignite in 1 of my rotation as it really cheap to get now. I need a slightly lighter shoe, would you recommend?

I wore Puma Faas 300 V3 before. The Speed 500 Ignite is not bad too. I saw the red and black one and the price is RM2++ in Al-Ikhsan.

I wear Asics now. It's slightly expensive but it's worth it. It's extremely comfortable and I'm loving it.

Are you currently wearing Puma running shoes ?
*
I wore Adidas & NB. Looking for lightweight shoes rotation.

According to this site RunRepeat, shoes with the top run scores are from Adidas, Brooks, UA, Nike and Ultra.
That is all from experts and customer's feedbacks though.

I don't trust their shoe score.

Just look at the shoes listed. It's a joke..

The Pegasus 34, Brooks Ghost 10, and UA Charged Bandit were really not bad when I tested them though...
Didn't quite like the Adidas UA for running, its comfy but didn't feel like a running shoe.

Hi. Need some advice here. I experienced an intense pain in my lower abs region during my last run which I had never experienced before. The only thing that I did was having a slice of bread with peanut butter 10 minutes before the run. Do you think the pain is because of the light meal?

Go see a doctors mate. You don't want to have appendix or batu karang
