Went to Affin to update my AS1M and to open one AS1M ac for my son.

Was asked to go to ASNB to change it to the new passbook (I forgot about that).

Went to ASNB, surprised it was not packed as I expected many people withdrawing their AS1M dividends.

Got my new AS1M passbook within 40 mins. Yes, I am a few months behind.

Affin managed to open AS1M ac for my son. Shocked to know the number of forms needed for the new account. Not just the ASNB form but 4 more forms!

Very happy with the helpful gent at Affin bank. Other banks will say no available units, cannot open etc etc.

4 forms just to open new account?

mind sharing what form is that??  hmm.gif  hmm.gif
*
Declaration forms and others.

Maybe more forms for children's account, guardian etc.

Just imagine, after doing all this, no unit available, they have to close the account and cut the passbook!

No wonder the staff are reluctant to open account!

Long time never post here. Anyways, here's what's the latest insider info I got.

Rest assured that the days of having to go to branches to hunt for those oh so valuable FP units would soon be over. ASNB is supposed to launch its own online portal with online-real time transactions processed by the host system. As you know, the current M2U, Clicks, RHB are all on batch mode now.

My insider said they were testing out the system last week and you can view your account balance online and perform additional top-up real time too.

I guess they're now in the SC approval and testing phase so pay close attention to ASNB's announcements on their website or their social media channels towards the end of the year.

They'll probably be using SMS-TAC like all other internet banking websites so if you haven't updated your info with them, can start preparing now.

Noted and thanks for the latest insider news!

Yes, that will make life easier for many of us.

Look forward to that.

Used to own many Reits but majority now are hibernating in ASX FP. If things work out well, no need to to touch ASX FP and stocks dividend for next few years too. blush.gif
No FUN parking too much $$ in ASX FP. A little excitement is good for the heart.

twinkle,

Like to learn from one who has some REIT experience. I am eyeing to get in later.

Best thing on REIT. Worst thing on REIT.

Your average REIT return for the past few years, the highest and the lowest. PM me if you think it is better that way.

If around 6% (say 5-7%), then my tendency is to stay with ASX.

Mainly Sporean REIT?

Thanks.

I found it surprising on one form which I have to declare when I tried to open AS1M ac for my son the other day. Hope that some friends here can help. Maybe [Mr Gray] can clarify.

That form is on whether one has USA residence, account etc. Is that the norm now when opening financial accounts?

Why?

My guess, USA laws too widespread and over-powering, they can use that link to investigate, get data etc etc?

Cheerio.

Let me introduce to you to the FATCA law; or in the financial industry we call it the Finding All The Cheating Americans law  laugh.gif

Well the actual name of the US-IRS law is Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act.

It's a G2G arrangement established between countries ie: basically if you wan't to do business with the americans, one must allow for this law to be "applied".

You don't have to be an american citizen or PR or green card holder for the law to apply. If you've ever worked/studied/stayed/have an account in US or heck even have a PO box in US the law applies  icon_rolleyes.gif

Ha ha.

Thanks.

USA is getting too empowering even outside the country. Good and bad.

How about U.S. social security number ? If one has registered for it, need to declare ?  hmm.gif

In the old forms (say before 2016), tak ada USA status declaration.

So I don't think they can simply vmad.gif those have USA residence etc as that was not part of the declaration then.

Or don't tell me, they can make this USA thing legal in retrospect?

Read this book

The Seven Most Important Equations For Your Retirement

will answer
* how much money do I need
* which depends on answer to how long will I live

Will not give everyone a spot on answer but it is a good guide to start with.

My quick estimate is this

A = yearly expenses / net worth

enough when A is 0.03 or less.

My 2 cents here as some are wandering which ASX to hunt for.

Rather than on gut feel, look at past performance and then throw your money at it! Ha.

Attached Image

AA First graph

To me, the 3 ASX are about the same visually.

What stands out for me is, these ASX were BETTER than EPF till the last 2 years.

BB Second graph

Standard deviation is a measure of variation/dispersion. Std/avg gives a better comparison.

For the past 6 years return averages, the order is

ASW
ASM
AS1M
EPF

In terms of variation, EPF & ASW have the highest, then ASM & AS1M.

Using std/avg comparison, EPF and ASW are the worst, then ASM and AS1M is the most consistent one.

So, if you want highest return, go for ASW. If you want consistency go for AS1M. Ha.

P/S I am not liable for your decision based on the above analysis! Ha.

Cheerio.

Thanks for sharing the analysis
Take note tat past performance doesn't guarantee future returns
*
Yes, agree that past performance does not guarantee future returns but I view it as a guide.

Say, X is very good in primary and secondary schools while Y is very poor in his studies.

X has a higher chance of doing well in uni than Y, though there is no guarantee that Y cannot do better than X later.

It does not guarantee but it is a good indication, provided the fundamentals are there and maintained.

Just my 2 cents ...

Is the A = yearly expenses / net worth, given by the book ?

I think should replace the net worth by liquid asset excluding primary residence.  hmm.gif
*
Good point on the liquid asset. Are rented houses considered as illiquid assets? If yes, then a landlord with many rented houses will give a false higher expenses/asset ratio than 0.03 as his houses are not counted.

I am thinking along this line. After using up all the assets except the house, one can still sell the house (if situation requires one to) and live in a rented house or hotel. Sell the house for RM1 million, stay at a hotel at RM150 per night with RM150 daily expenses, that can still last for 1 million/300 = 9 years!

Cannot remember whether the A thing is mentioned in the book. I read that some time ago. Likely yes as I think he explained the origin of 0.03 and that a 0.04-0.05 might be more suitable. Maybe that was from another book/article?

Sorry, sorry, sorry! Ha.

P/S OT here. So I better stop here.

Can I top up AS1M now since ASNB have changed the old a/c to New a/c now?
*
Yes, very good point!

I think it is possible. I only updated my daughter's AS1M passbook a few days ago. Before that, I still managed to buy some online for her.

Maybe they have automatically corrected the online account? Hope so.

Will find out.

Come to think of it, the next time they announce system out for maintenance, that can be the pre launch work on the new online system!

So pay attention to their outage announcement. Ha.
