All sifus please help, my budget is around 20k- 25k and what car should I buy? I plan to buy a 04/05/06 city, can I get a cheaper price than my budgeted price ? Will the old model city have problem? I have heard that old model city's gearbox were facing lots of problems and cannot be fixed easily, that's why a lot of,people are selling off their old model city which is from 2003-2008 model
This is my ideal specs of car
1. Brand : Used Honda city 2003/2004
2. Budget : RM20k - RM25k
3. New/Used/Unreg : Used
4. Specs : Full Spec
5. Transmission : auto
6. NA or FI :
7. Type : 4 seater.
8. Remarks : i am wondering what is the difference between vtec and idsi, normally idsi will be cheaper ? How can I buy a good condition secondhand car? I really need advice because this is my first time buying second hand and can I get 03 city that is below 20k? Any advice and what is the flaw of old model city?

Pls give some advices icon_question.gif icon_question.gif

The model you are looking at are infamous for gearbox problems, mostly due to Honda service centers using the wrong oil to service the gearbox and damaging it. If you are unlucky enough to get one like that, you will be looking at a hefty repair bill soon, possibly more than what you paid for the car.

IDSI is supposed to be the model with better fuel economy compared to VTEC, although some owners say the difference is not huge. Also, IDSI has lower horsepower and uses 8 spark plugs compared to VTEC's 4 spark plug.

For 25k, just get a used Myvi, or Saga/Persona if you need a sedan. It's not a Honda, but at least it won't be 13 years old.

Yes and No. All depend on the car itself. A well maintained car can last easily 15 - 20 years. I should know because I have two of those.

A poorly maintained car, even a supposedly reliable Toyota, wouldn't last half as long.

How about old model vios? In terms of banding wise, function and comfortability, should I take used Honda/Toyota car more than 10yesrs or a used 5-year saga/persona ? I am planning to drive the car for 5years.

yup... experienced that before in when i was given one as a courtesy car. the gearbox drops out of gear once a while and you end up revving the nuts off the engine. not fun at all

I have that old vios at home, 2007 car last batch of the 1st gen. Quite reliable, only wear and tear items and well maintained. Recently the alternator died but it is a 9 year old car with 160k km on the odo. So if you want a 10 year old vios, you still have to prepare to fork out to replace worn and failing parts.

For 25k, I would just get a newer used local car. Considering the quality of local parts you might still need to replace some parts, but at least it will not cost an arm and a leg. You can get a 2010 Saga BLM for RM21k, and you'll have RM4k left to fix the car up. Downside is, it is 1.3l, only has 1 airbag and no ABS.

only 2 main problems which i guess the rest have mentioned
-airbags which are basically guns pointed at your chest
-the transmission has been known to fail.....

i believe zenix already told you how to examine the cvt yes? just do that.....

personally dont like this car.... its ugly..... and in event it goes wrong, you better have some spare cash. (to be fair, this applies to all old cars BUT more so for certain cars like this) i suspect you are strapped for cash so If i were in your position, i would get a used potong for that money

From wikipedia

QUOTE
I-DSI utilizes two spark plugs per cylinder which fire at different intervals during the combustion process to achieve a more complete burn of the gasoline. This process allows the engine to have more power while keeping fuel consumption low, thanks to the better gasoline utilization. Emissions are also reduced.

IMO, the interior is way better than the vios..The interior of vios is plain and boring...It's grey and black only, same like my old saga doh.gif

Sequencial ignition. To provide a more complete burning on each cycle.

i frankly hate the godcar even more.... ohmy.gif
its general idea is no dif from the old proton saga... basically same old tech which is proven to work bundled in a very empty shell (which is also proven to work) but given botox or plastic surgery every now and then to refresh the line hehe laugh.gif
