I currently own a Canon 60D + Nissin Di622 speedlite.

I bought it last year when I was just trying out photography. Now I plan to go more serious into photography and shoot professionally.

I don't know is it just my Nissin Di622 problem, but sometimes the flash will stop functioning/freeze, then I need to restart the flash. Sometimes, the Nissin flash will misfire too (the photo turn out very dark) .

I'm just worried this would happen during a event function photoshoot when I'm shooting for a group or something. I doubt I can ask them to wait while I restart the flash, etc.

- Is it worth upgrading to a CANON 430EX II speedlite?
Will the Canon original speedlite be more reliable for professional use?

compare to di622 its has huge difference. HSS la, af ir la, recycle speed la, build quality la and etc. u cna look at yong nuo ex600 those series. worth more money.

I have the YN 600EX-RT, good flash BUT in my opinion doesn't come close to the Canon models.

I owned the Canon 580EX II and Canon 430EX II and build and reliability really goes to those models. YN 600EX-RT was a regretful purchase, it works but the battery door was so weak it broke within a week. I haven't replaced it since 2014.

My Canon models were with me since 2011 or so until 2015 and had ZERO problems whatsoever.

definitely u need canon flash if shoot professionally..more reliable & durable..
if shoot main-main or studio shoot YN is good enough, much cheaper

Canon 580ex ii 2nd hand can buy less than 1k... And I think their reliability and quality are way better than those missing one.

i think this somehow Might cause by your bad setting, if during group shooting, you tried to increase DOF using F8 and lower ISO to low down the noise, causing the flash to go Fullpower, then you need wait a good 6-7 sec for next fire... else your capacitor is not fully charge/cycled, you end up with a dark frame with half power flash(or lower power). So you need to learn to balance your flash power use, using higher iso or F4 so the flash power can be reduce, so it will improve the cycle time.

F4 @18mm on APSC actually gives you a decent good DOF, (cant say for sharpness because IF you are using 18-55 then the sharpness is questionable).

i am using 600ex , highly recommend .

comparing last time i using 580ex , i feel 600ex better on battery saving

To clear your doubt, I have the Nissin Di622 as well and yes, I have the same problem on my 40D and 6D. I will need to remove the flash and put it back on instead of just switching off and on.

I'd say it is worth to upgrade since it cost just about RM600 for a used one. Which you can easily cover it with just 1/2 jobs. But like what others said, might just consider to upgrade to the 580 or 600 one.
