Guys, I'm planning to buy EdgeRouter X to replace my existing TP-Link C1200. Something like this:

user posted image

1. The C1200 currently has to be put inside store room bcoz fibre endpoint & my in-wall LAN points are there, reducing Wifi strength downstairs.
2. Will the above setup work?
3. I want to at least be able to view traffic utilisation & connected devices.
4. Initially interested towards Mikrotik HEX router + Dude server, but tuned off by its Windows-95-feel GUI.
5. I read that EdgeRouter can use Ubiquiti's UNMS, which look similar to Unifi Controller software that I'm very impressed with.
6. Can I use UNMS to monitor my network with just EdgeRouter X?

Thanks.

Curious of your UMNS VM, how actually you do on it?

Anyone is using USG-Pro4 with UniFi Turbo or TIME in 500Mbps?
I'm thinking to replace my Mikrotik to that, so i can have the DPI feature.
But afraid the USG-Pro4 is unable to take the 500Mbps load. icon_question.gif

Anyone can share the experience? notworthy.gif

Usg pro can handle gigabit internet and dpi with breeze. Even the smaller usg can do similarly
*
QUOTE(pandera999 @ Oct 21 2018, 09:06 AM)
it can handle up to 4Gbps.. should not be a problem
*
Agree that can handle throughput but with DPI and Restrictions. Might need to exam it.
Too bad i didn't have project or anyone using USG-Pro4 around me. cry.gif

Even with dpi, usg can still reach gigabit. Usg pro can still reach higher.
*
Do you apply any restrictions?

ohh.. dont get confuse bout dpi with speed restriction. this is just practices to control user not to access certain website (social media or stream site, p2p)
*
Yea. didn't confuse about the DPI and Speed restriction.
Just want to understand when apply the restriction, how actually it work? by signature or based on ip that it define?
I haven't go into the details of DPI feature.
And when there're lot of traffic, will it actually affect the performance?

QUOTE(pandera999 @ Oct 23 2018, 04:59 PM)
an idea how u want use this restriction is,
it will restrict any packet our routing packet that try go to any social media (for example blocking social media) and block it.

can take a look at this : https://prnt.sc/l9ciwf
*
Thanks for your sharing. And yes i'm looking this type of blocking.

not affecting performance when there is a lot of traffic.
Im didnt think of if it block by signature or based on IP, if its based on ip/vlan subnet can be configure like this.
if its by signature, its already build in based on category it offered you.
*
the IP / VLAN subnet is the control where you want specific target to apply the policy.
What i interest is how the application recognition work so it can apply the block as per category.
In short, how UBNT category those application.

I love Application Recognition Device, but i not sure how accurate the application that it can category and recognize.

Im using USG (non pro) and i able to get download 900+Mbps using Time (DPI ON)

If IPS yes.
Warning: Enabling IDS/IPS will affect the device maximum throughput. USG: 85 Mbps, USG-Pro: 250 Mbps, USG-XG-8: 1 Gbps.
*
Do you run some blocking for the DPI? Like restrict certain category?
