Hi Pandera999, I am keen to move to an edgerouter for my 500mb time fiber connection at home. Currently using an Asus rt-ac68u as router/AP combo device. It's good and stable but I'm curious about ubiquiti now smile.gif

Thinking of having an edgerouter dedicated to routing ie with NAT and the Asus as my dual band AP. What do you recommend - the erx or erlite? Do quote your prices too if you don't mind. Thanks.

if you are using it for home using, i recommend u to get ERX around RM326 (not include gst and delivery)

edge router lite is suitable if you have switches, but if u are home user, its might be not that suitable for you unless you have switches.  nod.gif

ER-X seems to have high speed processor but lower RAM that ER-Lite. Still not too sure which can really support a 500mbps WAN.

I have gigabit switches, no worries about the limited Ethernet ports on both routers.

500mbps... well... what will u use it for? may explain in detail

I'm already using an Asus RT-AC68U with my 500Mb Time Fibre connection. Home user here with about 12 devices (wireless and wired). Biggest use case is concurrent streaming of HD media - Netflix, iFlix, Youtube, Spotify and web browsing. I don't need VPN server functionality or DMZ and such.

My question is - will the ER-X or ER-Lite be a better NAT router for my home vs. the RT-AC68U? Or am I better off using consumer-grade stuff like Netgear, Linksys, Asus?

ER-Lite is much suitable and sustain your packet transfer need.. but it comes with 3 port only and not support wifi. u might need asus router to become dumb router to broadcast wifi since u have few devices that will access internet through it.....

So ER-Lite it is then, slower CPU but more RAM and with hardware acceleration too, I believe.

3 ports, i.e. 1 for WAN (PPPOE). Can the remaining 2 ethernet ports be grouped into a LAN?

Need to expand the LAN port with a gigabit switch. No problem. I've managed Fortigate and Netscreen firewalls in my previous job plus used PFSense before, so learning the CLI is not a big issue.

Yeah, if I go for the ER-Lite the plan is to set the AC68U as my dual band wifi access point.

How much does the ER-Lite go for, buddy?

Haha, my house dont have unifi, i only have 8mbps streamyx and no unifi here, my office more worst, 1mbps internet only and the 1mbps not even achieved 1mbps speed, only 700kbps only. So very difficult to do GST and other online transaction. so plan to do transfer the internet to my office. For budget, sure as cheap as posible lol

Probably cheaper to just sign up a wireless broadband plan and use in the office.
