hey guys, I was recently recommended a benq joybook s73 if i'm not mistaken by a friend who works at a PC store when i asked him about laptops. I'm going to buy a machine soon for video editing usage. is the s73 enough? i heard he told me that some guy ran WoW at 1280x960 at full specs and it was smooth. so is the s73 good enough or should i get something else?

hey guys i just bought an s73g several hours ago. upgraded to 2 gig ram.
the bad news is that while trying to install windows xp (by my own, the thing came with linpus installed) there seems to be an irql_less_or_equal error that pops up halfway through the set up. the laptop detects the ram when it starts. I tried taking the ram out and putting the ram back in, still nothing. could be an os thing (trying to get another copy of xp *ahem*) but till then not sure whats wrong. it has 2 sticks of kingston 1 gig ram btw

erm guys, is it normal for my s73 overall temp to be 60+C?
i'm using a notepal cooler but the little bumps/stoppers on the bottom are keeping it from making full contact with the cooler :/

i terpaksa downgrade my ram back to original specs. while running mem test at the shop, 2 512 nanya sticks is cooler than running 1 1gig kingston apparently, damn weird rclxub.gif
so i traded it back in, and swapped it for a external hdd and also added abit more cash and got myself an evercool magic side cooler.
right now temp is around 57C with charger plugged in and charging nod.gif
any of you upgraded your ram?
can you tell me what kind of ram you used?

my room is quite a warm room actually, need to use 2 fan to keep cool sometimes since if i open the window dust, smoke and noise from the highway will come into my room. i still open it at night or when its raining though.

Francis - My S73G goes up 67-68C at times too when playing games or whatever tongue.gif its mostly the graphic card that generates heat, as speedfan tells me my proc and hdd is not that warm (i can run lappie for 3 days without doing anything heavy like play games and my proc will remain 10-16C tongue.gif) Normal temp is around 60-64C

However when I had 2x1gig kingston ram plugged in this baby's heat was nuts sweat.gif
67c overall temp doing nothing sweat.gif.
also due to ram incompability (so sez memtest at test 7) the laptop auto restarted and crashed alot sweat.gif
now using 2x512 nanya ram sticks that came with the lappie. its still warm but heh at least not overheating and stuff smile.gif

Added on May 21, 2007, 5:25 amoh and i suggest you buy evercool magic side cooler and plug it into the side air opening for the heatsink

i'm not sure whether my  S73G also got a heat problem or not.. i'm using NHC to monitor the notebook temperature. when in battery mode, it normally reach 51-55 degree.. but when in AC mode, it can reach until 68 degree.. is that normal?

sometime, my notebook auto restart by itself while i'm doing some work with adobe photoshop or watching movie.. should it be a software problem or hardware problem? i have upgraded the ram from 1GB to 2GB Kingston..
*
yeah i switched to nhc and under dynamic switching temps with adapter on normally around 61-63
havent tried any games yet, dont have any besides sam n max sweat.gif
and yeah mine is cooler when running on battery
and yeah same prob with me when i changed to 2 x 1 gig kingston rams

Hi guys,
mind i chip in a bit of caution when using s73g.
If anyone is xperiencing kickin out to desktop
on playing heavy 3d games, running at unusually hot temp,
or any weird behaviour related to the x1600 chip please
try these driver instead.

http://www.station-drivers.com/page/atidriv%20mobility.htm
(bypass all the stupid chip scanning stuff from the official ATI site!)

It solved my temp problems and locking on "stalker".
Now my lappy runs so much cooler too.
Previous, omega driver seems to be causing high temp runnin 3dgames.
give it a try, it works for me.

thanks
