I think I just have to transfer all my insurance payment and maintenance charges to HLB Wise to make good of RM1k, then swipe another RM1k for the selected categories. Loss of cashback for insurance and maintenance charges would roughly be RM5.00 (assuming about 0.5% of RM1,000). Guess it will still be alright.

not really...
lets say u got RM100 cash back per month out of 2000 spending per month, this is consider 5% cash back, which everyone knows...

then u forgot annual fee RM169.6 assuming u using gold card, not platinum card...
all those cash back minus the annual fee, how many % cash back per month left?

just fyi... cry.gif  cry.gif
*
Put it this way, if I don't swipe my insurance using Wise card, I would be using other card which gives me roughly 0.5% cashback on the amount swiped.

Total Cashback currently I get is about RM105 on RM2,000 (RM1,000 of Insurance etc and RM1,000 on Mobile, Groceries and Petrol), it's still about 5% (5.25%) anyway. Now, with those payment made from Wise card, RM1,000 on Insurance etc will not earn anything, but I will still be getting RM100 from Mobile, Groceries and Petrol. That's how I see it. smile.gif

Annual fee is not in the picture yet of course but that's what I have to pay no matter what.

groceries: ikhwan/One
petrol: ikhwan/One (spend on weekends)
mobile : One
insurance: Essential

benefit more?
*
Let's do a scenario analysis shall we?

Scenario 1:
Slightly more if I use Essential to pay Insurance. 0.6% on RM1,000 would be RM6.
Insurance etc RM1000 x 0.6% (Essential) = RM6
Petrol RM300 x 5% (Ikhwan/One - Weekend) = RM15
Mobile RM250 x 2% (One - Weekend) = RM5
Groceries RM450 x 5% (Ikhwan) = RM22.50

Total monthly = RM48.50
No annual fee so total 12 month will be RM582

Scenario 2:
If I use Wise:
Insurance etc RM1000 x 0% = RM0
Petrol Mobile Groceries RM1000 x 10% = RM100

Total monthly = RM100.00
With annual fee of RM170, total 12 month will be RM1,030

The crucial point would be the additional RM1,000 on other spending, whether one is able to hit it or not.

if gonna spend 2k, perhaps can look at SC JustOne card smile.gif disadvantage is steep AF at RM265 for Plat rclxub.gif
*
Need to spend even more (RM2.5k) to make more sense.

If I spend RM1,500 on petrol + insurance (RM1,000 Insurance + RM500 Petrol) I will only be getting max cap of RM28 (effectively 1.87%), unless I spend RM280 on petrol, and RM1,220 on others.

Total spending of RM2,500 and above makes the cashback better at 15% of Petrol + E-comm + Auto-bill (insurance i assume) but capped at RM85 per month. (3.4%), leaving Mobile + Groceries behind for other 5% cashback card.

Need to calculate more to find the optimum level of spending. laugh.gif

https://www.hlb.com.my/WISE
Q: My average spend per month on WISE Credit Card is RM1,000. How could I meet the minimum RM2,000 requirement?
A: WISE Credit Card gives out one of the highest cash backs. One way to meet the minimum RM2000 requirement is to consolidate all your purchases on your WISE credit card, for instance, pay for daily shopping, dining, groceries, insurance premiums, utility bills as well as enrol for auto-billing service.
https://www.hlb.com.my/main/assets/files/wi...c-en-160906.pdf
3. Terms and Conditions of the Programme
The term “Eligible Retail Transaction” shall refer to any retail purchase transaction made locally and overseas, including online transactions which are charged to the WISE Card (both Principal and supplementary WISE Cards) but EXCLUDES the following transactions:
(i) cash-type transactions including but not limited to Cash Advances, Cash-On-Call and Balance Transfers;
(ii) Cash-On-Call transactions;
(iii) fees and charges including but not limited to charges for cash withdrawals and cash payments, annual fees, interest and/or finance charges, disputed transactions, government
charges and any other kind of charges and penalties;
(iv) installment conversion transactions including but not limited to Flexi Payment Plan;
(v) fund transfers (from or to HLB’s account whether by HLB or third party);
(vi) disputed transactions that are subsequently reversed from the account of the Cardholder
My understanding is auto debit insurance and online purchase are retail spending. I think online purchase like LAZADA, AirBnb, AirAsia, etc...
*
They did not mention about JOMPay, anyone knows whether JOMPay include in eligible transaction? If not then I gonna check with the CS.

u r slightly wrong...the calculation is this.

RM1,030.40 / ( RM24,000 + RM 169.60 ) = 4.26%.....tongue.gif

QUOTE(fbtan319 @ Sep 21 2016, 09:27 AM)
The RM169. 60 is paid by the cash back.
*
The effective cashback rate should be RM1,200 / (RM24,000 + RM169.60) = 4.965%

Numerator should be the amount that I am getting which is RM1200, denominator should be total amount of "Spending", including AF. tongue.gif

For Wise card, the bank is still on the losing end if all charge only RM2000 to the card while maximising the cashback.

QUOTE(lilsunflower @ Sep 15 2016, 12:06 AM)
Just to share more info I just got from CS about the new Wise terms:

1. My annual fee is due in Dec. I asked if it would be charged per normal or if waiver is possible. They said no waiver and if I don't want to pay, then better don't use card near the anniversary date. Guess I'm not as lucky as others smile.gif.

2. The 2k retail spend covers almost everything except those specifically listed. From 1 August,  HLB  cards (including my Fortune) changed terms such that government and Jompay are excluded from receiving cashback. However, this exclusion does not apply to Wise 2k retail spend criteria. So, if you spend 1k on Wise categories and 1k on government (including DBKL, LHDN,  MPPJ etc) it will fulfil the 2k criteria.

On related note, Pos Online MCC is 9402 (government). Because of this, I did not qualify for cashback on my Fortune card in a August.
*
May I confirm whether payment to Insurance Co via JomPay is eligible for RM2,000 retail spending criteria?

Also about DBKL, LHDN, MPPJ, as I read from Clause 3(a)(iii):

QUOTE

government charges and any other kind of charges and penalties;

Does government charges here mean something like RM50 GST previous which has been abolished? hmm.gif

Would probably call the CS next week to clarify on this.

Need to refer to T&C:

Since previous poster said that the MCC is now marked as government,, there is still a risk there.

I highlighted that day. Not sure if it's for those government fee. Need to clarify.

When I called HLB CS (at least 3 different CS, at different times, ever since the Wise terms were revised), they kept telling me that LHDN, DBKL and Pos Online etc still fall within the definition of "retail".

Perhaps someone else can also call to confirm my understanding? Better to have verification from different sources, just in case people miss out the whole month's cashback if certain transactions are excluded from the RM2,000 threshold.

Next month is my last month of WISE, and I will be using RM1,000 solely for POS Online and RM1,000 for qualifying categories.
*
I just made a call to the CS. The CS officer told me that any retail transaction using Wise card will be qualified. JOMPay via HL website also qualifies for the spending criteria.

Why last? Not gonna continue after this month? Is it because of the change in spending criteria?

I didnt get too. Probably it's filtered by users who had never get the rebate before / gotten very low CB from their dining promo.

Here's the combination:

PBB Visa Signature (groceries, online bill payment, dining), UOB Yolo (for online bill payment & dining if PBB card's rebate is maxed out), Aeon Big (petrol on Sunday)

No minimum spend of RM2,000 needed and no annual fees
*
Total cashback may be slightly lower, depends on which card. smile.gif
Give and take, I am still using Wise and getting RM100 per month for the past 6 months. (Edit: besides PB VS, YOLO and CIMB CB)

QUOTE(gilabola @ Feb 26 2017, 09:37 AM)
Cashback is actually higher using the combined PBB, Yolo, Aeon Big cards. PBB's cashback is at 6%.

With wise you get 5% only if you spend exactly RM1000 in eligible categories and another RM1,000 in any category. If you spend more than RM2k, your cashback is less than 5%

In the end it comes down to your spending habits. If you can't spend 2k a month, Wise doesn't work
*
% wise high but try to calculate based on his spending listed and see.

Yes, need to hit RM2k only can enjoy cashback, that's the drawback.

QUOTE(propusers @ Feb 26 2017, 01:02 AM)
which other CC combination can beat WISE card for spending categories below.

- Groceries $500
- Petrol $250
- Maxis (mobile) $250
- Dining $100
- Insurance $600
- TNB $100
- Syabas $50
- Astro $100
- TM Streamyx $60

Since WISE change the TnC to RM2K, I have not missed rm100 cash back charging the spending above to WISE.

please recommend if there is combination of CC which give better rebate. I sure cancel WISE when annual fee coming.
*
On a case-by-case basis, did simple one:

- Groceries $500 6% = RM30
- Petrol $250 (need to apply another petrol cashback card)
- Maxis (mobile) $250 6% = RM15
- Dining $100 6% = RM6
- Insurance $600 (nil? points probably if PBB VS)
- TNB $100 6% = RM6
- Syabas $50 6% =RM3
- Astro $100 6% = RM6
- TM Streamyx $60 6% = RM3.60
Total ~RM70
add in petrol say 8% = RM20, topped at RM90

YOLO also comes with minimum RM800 spending to activate RM50 cashback.

Wise only gets 5% but that 5% is assuming that insurance payment also u get 5% (i.e. calculated based on RM2000 x 5%). Of course some other cards may offer 5% cashback for paying insurance premium online for certain insurers.

With so many cash back cards available nowadays and less spending requirement, and no annual fee, wonder why people still keep this card
*
Coz I have been using it to pay my insurance to meet first RM1k then spend another RM1k for petrol, groceries and telco to earn 10% of my spending. Been getting RM98-100 every month. Cash back for my insurance is very minimal using other cards so for me it's give and take.
