reviewers have said, an upgrade from 30D to 40D is a good move.
The 14-bit A/D, larger LCD and higher efficiency, higher pixel count sensor were all significant factors in my decision, as well as the promised increase in AF performance and the opportunity to try out the "live view" features. While the EOS 30D was really an EOS 20D MkII, it looks like the EOS 40D is a whole new camera.
There are definetly improvements to it. But once you've used APS-C For years, you might want to go full-frame instead and that is the only reason not to get the 40D for someone using a 30D. But Im sure if you have the extra cash to upgrade to a 40D, no harm there. Like you said, 30D is indeed the 20D MKII and the 40D the actual evolution of the ##D line of APS-C Canon EOS. Just get good re-sale price for the 30D,then top up a bit for the 40D. However personally, I'd prefer the live-view be perfected before going for it thou. Maybe the new model that comes out down the road. Anyway, have you upgraded your 30D to 40D?
