Is there a chance that PS3 might be dropping in price? Someone posted this (60 units of ps3 sitting at US' top electronic shop, Best Buy)

Bad sign? .. JUST two months after its Launch, PS3 price has been slashed by 20% atleast in Japan. Cant imagine whats going on the mind of the guy who got shot in trying to grab the low supply PS3.

The price of the Sony PlayStation 3 which just two months out in the market has been reduced well atleast in Japan.

There is a bit of a catch to this story though and that it is only pertaining to the 20GB model and only happening in . The price is being cut by 20% which will knock about $82 off the price of the 20GB model in that country.

This is due to a very low demand for the console in its native country as sales of the next-generation console from Sony have completely come to a standstill.

Consoles have been sitting on shelves as gamers have been patiently waiting for a price drop or a big game; basically a reason to shell out the cash and own the powerful next-generation machine.

Retailers have begun getting impatient as well as they are selling used PlayStation 3 consoles at far lower prices than they would normally as the prices are way under the sticker price.

If things continue here in the as it did in could this mean that we could be seeing a price drop in North America as well? Only time will tell but with retailers having more than enough stock of systems sitting on the shelves and impatience setting in as money is lost on the retailers end as well as Sony's end at some point something is going to have to budge to try and get this next-generation machine into the homes of consumers here as well as Japan.

Very unlikely the price will drop now as Sony is heavily subsudizing these machines.

then they would have to pump out more and better PS3 titles .. where is the latest final fantasy oredi !!!

heard a rumour going around that there's an oversupply of PS3's in malaysia...

apparently our shops imported too many units and there aren't that many ppl buying yet...

just a rumour tho, i can't confirm the accuracy

I'll definitely get 1 unit but I am still waiting for the price to be just right.

I guess the price will defitnely drop in the long-run. But if in the short-term, is hard 2predict since its a tough competition btwn other current sold console..Right now the price is still expensive. I'm waiting the price to drop till a reasonable price

after the global launch on march.. im sure its will be reduce.
they suppose realease it on march but too much demand from the US want to give it for xmas present.. so the sony launch it earlier.. so they pay the price then..

anyway... a confirm HDMI port for the March realease.

i heard end of this year, the price would drop tremendously, dunno whether it is true or not though.

cd = 1 way protection
dvd = 2 way
bd = 3 way... so u think u can ehem a server that checked the title?

i wish PS3 also put the self destruct code for the hardware if the server found any ehem in the medium.

if the price down to like RM1600-1700 definitely will buy coz wanna watch bluray movies hehehe...

at that price .. people will be buying the console and take out the BD drive and put in their HTPC .. The Panasonic BD drive is selling at RM2.7K at Compuzone

Well, good for those waiting. Sony priced it according to what other BD players were priced, and it bit them in their behinds. After all, if they priced it waaay below pricetags of other manufacturers own BD players, they would feel cheated and pull out of the BDA.

anyhow, we still dont know if the price slash is permanent and according to some feedbacks on the article, is not done uniformedly. the price slash is done by certain retailers. But then, why pay more, if you know you can get the console 20% cheaper. good news anyhow ,, HTPC people are smiling now

Yup, the 20Gb model is selling at a very cheap price in Japan. A friend of my friend just got his 20Gb PS3 with 2 games (Motorstorm, Resistance) there for at total of about 49k Yen (about RM1600).

Games is the reason for gamer to get PS3 (since blu-ray movie are still limited). Sony really have to get thier sellable games title on the shelves (Metal Gear 4, Devil May Cry, Devil May Cry, Final Fantasy etc).

Not to forget, if Sony keep on losing thier exclusive title to Microsoft, there won't be any reason left for us to get PS3. I'm happy to stick with my Xbox360.

Bluray movies are not limited, they are readily available through physical retailers and online retailers like Amazon. I've been to Harvey Norman in Australia and retail chains in Germany, they started selling Blurays already. In fact , Sony had installed promo kiosks with LCD TVs to showcase Blurays there. It is the lack of MUST-HAVE movie titles that doesnt entice consumers to adopt the technology just yet.

Only if 10 is the biggest number in the world........

what do you expect? there are already more than 10mil xbox 360 sold. any game producers with straight business mind would want to tap into the 10mil potential market.

by the way, support original la....at least in next gen console and world of warcraft . the true meaning of next gen console when it played online. just my opinion by the way...
