Just some tips

My 2 best magikarps are as follows:

Magikarp A - 42CP - 86-97% IV -------> evolves to a Gyarados A with 424 - 495 CP range

Magikarp B - 136 CP - 82-93% IV -------> evolves to a Gyarados B with 1373 - 1604 CP range
__________________________________

Magikarp A has a higher IV range than B but the difference between an evolved Gyarados A vs Gyarados B is a HUGE 1000 CP difference.

It takes approximately 54,000 stardust to power up Gyarados A of 4XX CP to 1500CP to match Gyarados B... (+39 CP per power up)

So is the 4% improvement in IV worth the 54K stardust additional investment/time and effort? You be the judge..

There are also the skill sets to consider if you're a serious player...

You'll be able to encounter higher level pokemons. It's just that the pokemon level cap increases as your trainer level increases.

Just for example:

Your trainer level is 15, the pokemon CP range you can encounter is between 0 to 500

However, if your trainer level is 20, the pokemon CP range you can encounter is between 0 to 1,200

That's why you should try to level up your trainer level as fast as possible if you want to catch higher CP Pokemons..

high IV is not necessary better for the simple fact that in attacking gym battles, you can dodge attacks by correct timing. Dodging skills is more important.

Highly concur with this one. Dodge critical in gym battles. So you can use lower CP to battle. Also gain more XP.

Edit: Dodging has been nerfed, now will take 25% damage.

So if like that, would it better that I cincai evolve pokemon for now just to gain lvl? no need to care about IV so much atm..........

If your aim is just to capture higher level CP Pokemons, then yes, you just need to increase your trainer level.

But if you want to be the very best, looking at CP only isn't good enough. You need to look at IV and skill set as well.

How to increase your trainer level quickly?

Try mass evolving pidgeys or caterpie/weedle (basically any pokemons that need the fewest candies to evolve) with LUCKY EGG

Check out these 2, they're robots man.

Currently they're up to lvl 27 & 34 after 14hrs of play. They did not start at level 1. One of them is currently at 470k XP (14.5hrs). Not sure about the other one.

Level of Pokemon caught still varies but with a higher cap. I think the cap is trainer level+2. Not 100% sure. Eggs collected at lvl 19 will hatch a lvl 19 Pokemon. Quite sure about this one.

Power level to at least 20-25 first. Then can catch high CP high IV. Then more worth your stardust investment.
