I'm underweight and am trying to gain weight. Since I'm lactose intolerent Ive tried finding alternatives.

On bodybuilding.com almost everyone seem to suggest taking coconut milk.

So I went on a hunt in Giant to look for it. Little did I know it was actually santan.

Opened it up and drank 100ml (out of the 200ml) of it in one shot and I feel super weird. Not only did it taste really really bad, well some may like the taste but uh..

Can you drink from it straight away? My mom said it was used to cook food, like curry. And I was like, oh, isn't this for nasi lemak as well? Whoops.

Then I went searching for what the americans called it "milk", turns out its packaging was completely different, which actually has a bottle opener unlike what is sold here which I need to cut open.

I think the base is the same.

But as with all beverages the American version has been tweaked with ingredients to be a palatable beverage. Ala pasteurising cow's milk or making of almond milk drinks.

Minum santan sounds wrong and unhealthy.

Well. I may have just overdosed it and I feel super weird. 100ml has 20g of fat. And i don't think the typical nasi lemak has even that many. I do get cramps when overeating the nasi lemak.

If it taste bad for you, i think you gotta ditch it. gaining weight isn't happen in 1 night nor 1 month. Your approach needs to be sustainable, regardless how good is the food, if you cant take it in the long run, it is garbage. just my 2cents icon_rolleyes.gif

You can opt for soy protein or whey isolate for liquid protein, chicken beef fish lamb for food

Turns out there are some people who cannot tolerate santan. I just went through the worst toilet break ever.

I don't know how people manage to take in a litre of it. I was advised to take in 1 tbbs. That's not going to get me anywhere!

@helven yeah i've been taking soy milk, but the calorie can't be compared, it's too little. I would need to dump in litres worth a day. I checked out whey isolate as well, but i saw people advised that the calorie in it is not enough, meaning if I need 1000 calorie from it, i would need to take in 400g of it a day. Viable, but expensive.

It isn't just about calorie bro, it is the macro nutrition that counts. You only need 1g protein per lb of body weight a day. The rest leave it to carbs and fats. Most of the calories comes from carbs which are rice, bread noodles.

Go and search the forum, there are a lot of people talking about TDEE, macro. Don drink/eat the calorie blindly.

You dont have to drink milk to get bulk.

Milk is protein and fat

So does meats and eggs.

And get calcium tabs.

underweight? lucky u... Stop drinking this coconut milk shit and eat more. High calorie foods are everywhere in Malaysia...

Of course, everything in moderation. Learned from the sifus here is that, 80% clean foods, 20% junk foods. Let most of your day consist of healthy food and keep some for your favourite junk foods.

This is just an opinion of mine.

Oh no! Coconut milk is not santan! The packet you have drunk is also santan even though the packaging says coconut milk. I think it is quite difficult to find coconut milk here in Malaysia and even if you do, it will be quite expensive. The coconut milk that they meant is actually quite easy to drink, and it comes in a big carton like when you buy UHT milk. No small packages. You're living in Malaysia so it's easy to make your own! Crack open a coconut, blend both the coconut flesh and coconut water in a blender and there you go, fresh coconut milk without any preservatives, chemicals etc.

Also I am not sure, as I haven't done it myself before but you might need to just put it through a sieve so it is easier to drink.
