I have a neighbour doing some renovation at their house since 3 months ago and they start hammering and sh1t everyday betweeen 7.30am to 8.30am. On some days, powerdrills are used on SUNDAYS at those hours. Now for some reason their renovation slowed down a lot - like they ran out of money or sth. But still...some hammering or god knows what noise begins at wee hours of the morning then probably stops after an hour or two.

I do not think the owners are living there at this moment but the noise are disturbing about 10 houses nearby and we're pretty damn furious at this point. Is there any Majilis Perbandaran to complain to? At least get them to stop working on Saturdays early morning AND Sundays!

if apartment/condo then go to the management, if landed house then there should be a rukun tetangga or area chairman

730am you say?

Then you are out of luck.

Renovation work is permitted from 7am to 10pm. After that permitted levels drop by alot.

During the 7am to 10pm, intermittent residential noise pollution level must be seen to exceed 85/90dBA before they will/can take action.

sorry, what do you mean by permitted levels drop? And does this 'permission' take place on Sundays too?

Here's the dB of a powerdrill...110dB. Although some websites show a lower figure of 90dB.

This chart shows anything above 85 has possible noise damage - and I believe this is only a short period of time. Not 3 months continuously every single day

Just some guides...not to scare anyone but I do get headaches more frequently from 'sudden' noise pollution

Dude, 730 am is not wee hour

You should sleep at time like normal people

And also

That 110db for power drill probably is measured one meter away from sound source and the noise intensity drop inversely 1/(r^2)

So unless your neighbor is so close to you that noise level should be below 85db

Have you try to talk to the owner? This have being going around for 3 months and you can withstand it notworthy.gif notworthy.gif
You have to see the area which you belong to then lodge report with the respective Majlis Perbandaran

You cant really control the noise pollution but limit the time of the renovation.

Owner is not around. Staying somewhere else for now. We're not sure if he sold the house or wat.
Yes, I would like to limit the time of renovation since they are not doing anything productive at all at this point.

Instead of talking to the owner, talk to the contractors. Act like you are one taiko in that area and 'sound' them nicely not to make noises after the permitted hours / weekends. Say that other residents had complained to you as well.

This will give an impression to them that you are one big shot in your area and will tend to respect your saying.

just report to majlis because legally they should obtain an approval before renovating especially if the renovation involves exterior building.

actually you still havent answer if you staying in condo or landed. if landed the above applies but if you stay in condo, then there must be some hanky panky with your jmb and there is nothing you can do unless you get all the residence to unite together.

landed, if your housing area has a guard house then conlanfirm have a committee.

you can lodge a report with your local authority. but before that, have you spoken to the contractor or not?

sorry, my complaint was about the jackhammer all this while. Nobody uses powerdrill in a construction...LOL. Do you expect to break down walls with that cute little thing from Harvey Norman? biggrin.gif

I googled the version of the jackhammer used for house renovation and its called a hammer drill. Although its small, a CDC website shows that it works in the range of 99-104dB.

I should've recorded a video of their work today...they were at it again. And as of 11am...gone. 8am - 11am only...I simply have no idea why they would only disturb us in the mornings.

Use an app to record noise levels at different times of the day,
save the screenshots
then make proper report to MBPJ, even try police (come on, they can't turn down a legitimate report against a nuisance).
then to go even further, you might want to highlight that house on youtube (don't mention the names of the owners).

The idea is publicly shame such inconsiderate people - if the authorities will not get involved to ensure compliance.
