Hi all, I've been told that the Nokia phone from UK can be unlock in M'sia coz it's not the hardware problem but it's the firmware. Is there anyone that can unlock them? Thanks in advance! notworthy.gif

No... both phones are BB5 platform, cant be unlocked easily by flashing firmware or via unlocker software.. can be unlocked by changing part in the phone, but that is not 100% guaranteed success and costly..

flashing the firmware will just remove the branding but not unlocking the phone.

a lot of my frens got nokia phone from '3' in uk (not me because i use vodafone and nokia doesnt attract me much atm) because they hv the cheapest deal and best offer, but when they get back to malaysia for summer holiday, all of their nokia phone cant be used in malaysia, because it is locked to '3', unlocking is near to impossible and '3' wont serve you for unlocking.

so their phone either end up in the drawer in uk when they got upgrade/change phone every year... so the guide is: dont get nokia phone from '3' if u want the phone is useable in malaysia.. or else just use it for a year in uk and sell it off in ebay or let them rot in the drawer.. or get other brand tat is unlockable like SE etc.. or dont get from '3', get from other telco or unlocked set..

Actually there is a way to unlock Nokia from network 3 at the moment...

I have found and got a phone reseller dealing the unlocking jus for Nokia phone like 6680 and in network 3.

Cost to unlock = RM 350 - RM 400.

They prove it works hence the price you need 2 pay... So it's up to you...

there is way and i did mention it before.. changing hardware (IC) is one of it. and it is costly..

rm350-400 just for unlocking... too much isnt it. if it is for new phones tat u get for cheaply like n73, n93 or n95 maybe, it does seems ok ok, considerable, but for rm350-400 to unlock old phone, 6630, 6680, not tat worthy i would say..

an unlock for se phones only around rm60.. and easy as well..

se unlock price? rm 300? depends on how u unlock it.. and model

normally those above rm200 unlock method involve changing of hardware etc..

while those cheap rm50 unlock is done by software/crack method... which is safer and as reliable as well..

some sets are just merely a branded set... they hv this o2 customised menu, o2 logo on the outer casing, or bla bla bla.. but they are not locked to the network.. saw quite a lot of these... but if '3', then sure it is locked..

and actually older bb5 platform nokia model can be unlocked, but not as easy as other phones (via software/crack).. they need changing of hardware etc and not every shop willing to do that.. so the issue is, can u find the shop, the cost and is it practical to do it, is it worth to pay so much to unlock an old phones etc etc..

Well, sorry to post here, but it would seem someone is eager to close stuff on sight.

http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopic=425493&hl=

Whoever closed that thread, when I said 3 (Australia btw, can't say for UK) will unlock it for you, what I meant was they will provide the unlocking code. It may not apply to 6630 or 6680 or 6280, but it definitely will work for 6288.

To the TS of the locked topic, if you are reading this, just call 3 customer care, they will ask you why you wanna unlock (I would say that is my business, but let's not be rude and just say your main phone is better like n95 or something) then he/she will ask for your phone serial number, then provide the unlocking code. The firmware is still 3's, but you can now use it on any network.

PM me if anyone have good reason for the thread to be continue and I will re-open the thread.

Another point I just found out is some forumers providing unlocking services includes unlocking for BB5 phones, however success rate may vary and some risk is involve via 3rd party unlocking software. You may want to PM them for details. Search their services in GS.

Since unlocking issue and flashing firmware have been quite a concern nowadays, I will make a topic and pinned it up for any discussion about it soon.

from what i gather by asking in the phone shops, there is one way , and that involves changing the flash ic of the phone ..which ain`t cheap, ranging from 300-600+(damn u nokia .lol) ( sweat.gif )i dunno how the forumers do t though . but , if you look around in the net , it seems there is one person wo is able to unlock the bb5 phones ..

I have look/read around too. There are a few calculators already available, but only work on some very old bb5 phones (6630 etc) and success rate is not 100%. It works like requesting the unlock codes from the network itself, but at more random calculation hence wont 100% work. And 3 wrong input will result in hard-lock of the phone.

I saw those forumers did say something about hard-lock and soft-lock services. So I assume they use those calculators then. But then it only works for 6280 and previous models.
