But I still hope YES will penetrate the market strong, so that the main Telcos have to lower their price and provide better service in order to compete in the tight market notworthy.gif

We shall see huh... YTL has been good in making high visibility but not quality. Hope they can put in true effort in telecom sector.

any news from YES for cheaper prepaid internet? still the same RM30 10GB + free 10GB?
*
As of now it looks like it’s the same. YES is quite slow to react on the market competition.

pls also check the spec if it is supported the TDD band 38 and 40. smile.gif

iPhone sold in Malaysia is confirmed supporting the TDD-LTE variant, in fact iPhone is one of the small number of smartphones that support wide range of LTE bands.

I guess the VoLTE is not enabled somewhere.

What will happen to the towers?
*
Not sure. Most probably continue to pay the rental and it is business as usual.
But it really looks ugly to have a cell tower erected within a school compound.

It looks like they have some ways... look at the mysterious band 20! I didn’t know this band existed in Malaysia until I saw the spotting by some forumers here.

You mean the Yes 4G is very popular now?
Last time people hated YTL so much because of the poor contract management issue with subscribers.

The keywords are current situation
Exactly, that is why if yes is still interested in chasing tenders they will keep the tower alive until next year
Yes promised free internet for school until next year, of course they will try to keep the tower operational, plus they have paying customer too

Anyway, all these are my and your opinions and assumptions, so lets wait until October and see who is right
*
Wah I didn’t know YTL tags on the schools to pay for the base station’s power supply. What a scam.

Eh, since when Yes 4G offers Family plan?

But if you compare the supplementary plan cost, it is same as you subscribe a prepaid plan with Konfem 4G (RM1/day and 4Mbps) plan. It is equivalent to RM30 for 30 days already lo...
I think they just want to offer it as part of postpaid plan offerings as well, and they expect "entire family members" to subscribe Yes 4G ah... Hmmmmm  hmm.gif

Standalone personal postpaid plan and another prepaid plan like more worthwhile to me. Correct me if I'm wrong.

The difference is the speed then.

If I am not wrong, VoLTE is still not supported on Yes 4G network due to Apple's policy. In fact it's a common issue amongst the new Telco around the world because it's actually Apple's call to enable the VoLTE support for the Telco and in order for apple to do that, the Telco needs to subsidy and sell iPhone for Apple.

Below is the extract from a piece of news:
"However, Mr Tan said while VoLTE has been around for some time and most phones support the technology, it does require adding TPG’s parameters to the device’s firmware settings. This is what device makers like Samsung, Huawei and Oppo have been doing, he pointed out.

Apple, however, has refused to add the telco’s settings to its carrier settings, he revealed.

“We have explained to them that we are a SIM-only operator and are not currently bundling phones with our service trial, and (Apple’s) decision inconveniences customers who may have signed up for a TPG service,” the executive said.

“We have also sought (regulator) IMDA’s help … but
Apple has refused to budge from their position.” "

You sure it’s just a trial? The network can be seen literally everywhere...
nobody would want to spend so much effort and money to do it nation-wide if it is something not confirmed.

LTE has a higher spectral efficiency than Wimax. By shutting down Wimax, they can re-purpose those spectrum on LTE.

In other words, by moving all those users to LTE with the condition that there's no increase in user on LTE network except those who switched from Wimax to LTE, the overall network quality will improve.

Yes better get rid of the outdated tech and focus on the technology that can achieve higher utilisation.

QUOTE(westlife @ Dec 24 2019, 09:31 AM)
My 4th day of yes 4g experience:

Outdoor

Overall i am impressed with the coverage and speed. I can play a YouTube while driving with no stop playback at high setting such as 720p or 1080p. Same thing i did using my Celcom postpaid will experience a halt on the playback during certain part of my driving to home and it always happen during the particular part of the road always. Obviously, Celcom is having blind spots on the road.

Speed wise I can get 4Mbps as promised as per the plan I am using (rm30 unlimited).

I must say the surfing experience and video streaming experience is even better than traditional telcos such as Celcom etc. The loading of web pages is lightening fast. YouTube streaming is super fast also. The loading of the video list is incredible. Something that I have not experienced on Celcom ever. Even comparing to Maxis that I had used previously, I dun get similar fast speed also.

I believe that yes 4G has very low latency even it may not have the fastest 4G speed as compared to other telcos even the traditional one thus I can have the above said experiments.

Indoor

At popular places such as shopping Malls etc., the coverage is decent. Speed wise can hit the promised speed for download. Upload is slower though. Probably some blind spots within the mall will have poorer or no coverage. Places such as shop houses etc. If go inside will have no coverage sometimes. Coverage within my house is about 1 to 2 bars but still able to surf the web or video streaming.

Conclusion

The rm30 unlimited plan for prepaid is really good to supplement the normal mobile line that one may have that is used to receive OTP etc.

However, I won’t use it to MNP my main line as OTP is crucial to me since I tie all my banking services to the number.

In addition, I am Apple iPhone user so totally impossible to use it as main line also due to the compatibility issues.

But overall I am happy with it as second line for data usage. I will proceed to terminate my Celcom legacy plan line soon.

I thought in the latest iOS version, it allows user to choose VoLTE on but it will only work on best effort only.

Where you get that info? Info that Yes 4G now supports VoLTE for iPhone.
*
It's not that Yes supports VoLTE in iPhone but iPhone allows 'trying' to turn on VoLTE in latest iOS. However I guess whether it works or not it is best effort only.

Only if Apple certified the telcos. Yes 4G is not certified by Apple this VoLTE is not supported. There is no such option in iOS for yes SIM card.

Try to update to iOS 13.2 at least and check it out the mobile data section in the setting.

Have been using yes konfem 4G for a month now.

My user experience is 80/100.

It has decent coverage which I have connection more than 95% time. Only certain shops inside shopping malls may not have connection.

Speed is excellent, as long as within coverage, no need to worry about it. It can get consistently at 4Mbps or close to all the time. With this, streaming 720p is totally no issue.

Given its price, it is the best unlimited prepaid plan one can get.

Going to try u mobile GX30 after today, will see if it is even comparable to yes konfem 4G. It is only my data plan so can switch anytime.
*
Do you have to subscribe a full month for the konfem package? Is there any other option for shorter term such as daily or weekly plan?

Perhaps the user base is not as wide as other telcos, plus I guess its relationship with government has been strained since the 1bestari matter...
