Why Do WoWers Confuse

It seems that alot of WOWers misunderstood why tmnet ping is so high to wow.

It is not due to sucky international traffic, not due to sucky tmnet routing, AND NOTHING to do with distance(but it does on a very small scale).

Also it has nothing to do with tmnet limiting your bandwidth.

Its is due to Bandwidth throttling introduced "Smartly by tmnet" since 2003.

Fact 1 : Bandwidth throttling Does not "LIMIT" your download speed.
Fact 2 : Bandwidth throttling Does not "BLOCK" you from international users *hence* p2p

What Bandwidth throttling does is a method of ensuring a bandwidth intensive device, such as a server, will limit ("throttle") the quantity of data it transmits and/or accepts within a specified period of time. Bandwidth throttling helps provide quality of service (QoS) by limiting network congestion and server crashes.

In Layman terms, It is slowing each packet down and put it in a queue to be sent to international links, Therefore increasing the "Response Time" we get when connecting overseas.

Why diffrent ip have diffrent ping times you asked.

Each set of ip "usually" have a set allocated international bandwidth for them. If that set of ip have more bandwidth OR in some cases LESS P2P users, They will have less Response time due to the fact that the packet takes less queue to be transmitted out.

Okay What happens if theres no throttling?

There will be a degration of service and alot of timeouts. This is when you guys start to whine about lousy tmnet service with timeouts but less lag

This is Unthrottled ping times to wow using a 2.0 M package

I'm sure there is a bandwidth cap since 4 days ago. It didn't work like this before. I used to play WoW and use BitTorrent at the same time without having any lag. Now, I can't do that anymore.

Although Taiwan Earthquake damaged 8 undersea fibre optic cables before and it is being repaired, there was no bandwidth cap for TMNet before.

Wow needs about 2 kb/s constant transfer and maby 5 - 10 during raid which is absolutely low if they want to cap it till that point.

All they did is put "Again!" Bandwidth throttling to the newly rerouted routes

Another problem with TMNet is, all dynamic IP range is different.

219.95.xxx.xxx lags 24/7
218.111.xxx.xxx doesn't lag until today
219.94.xxx.xxx and 218.201.xxx.xx is inbetween those 2 above but it doesn't lag today

All of them got their bandwidth capped still.

I can't believe that they would punish online gamers for geniune usage! Something must be done, how dare they punish us for BT usage, its damned right disgraceful!

I will drop streamyx in a second if thats true. I will pay for 3g rather than throw my money down the toilet!

Dude... there is just not enough international bandwidth to go around.

IF they have the bandwidth, they wont even bother throttling.

Okay. If u dont like throttle theres 2 option.

1 ) Throttle my bandwidth and give me high pings but not timeouts

OR

2 ) Dont throttle my bandwidth and give me low pings but timeouts

Bt users are genuine as well. They pay money to download thier p2p stuff let aside legal or not.

The only way to have a "WIN WIN" situation is that tmnet purchase ALOT of extra bandwidth Which i doubt will ever happen.

That's Why i say enforce, yes there are geniune users, if they notice a trend like 24/7 p2p usage, then investigate. I pay to play, not pay for others to abuse the system!

Rubbish!

If you can't provide a service, move on and let somebody else.

All they can do now is..

Take Off the Damn UNLIMITED BANDWIDTH Advertisment.

If they put limited bandwidth the p2p users WONT 24/7 but us wowers will still be able to play normally and still download p2p stuff

Once you are throttled, your WoW experience is a goner even if its not p2p but only xml data streams packet as most have told me. I used to be able to play BWL suppression room with noticeable lag yet downloading 80kbps.

The amount of data does affect your ping if your bandwidth is capped. Currently, the bandwidth cap is around 10kb/sec when it comes to certain locations outside Asia. If you download or upload something on that capped link that is the same as WoW at the cap limit, it will cause WoW to lag or disconnect. That's why WoW will lag or disconnect when it comes to raids.

If it is capped... we have no prove that tm caps us ...

I can dl simultaneously on diff international peers at around 10 - 60 kb/s which is very very unstable.

I already tested it over and over again. Certain downloads or BitTorrent that is above 10kb/sec download causes me to disconnect or lag on Illidan.

Try maxing your connection out with a popular torrent while you play WoW. I get disconnects or lag everytime I run BitTorrent with WoW. I start lagging when my download reaches 10kb/sec.

I dont think the proof of throttling is true.. i've asked many player from other countries nearby us and they have the same ping like us ranged from 300-600ms ping (australia, singapore, hongkong, indonesia and philipines friends of mine).. of coz all this is b4 the earthquake xD..

about the torrent, i tried downloading my faves anime sometimes when i play wow and it didn't lag except it reaches 100kbps still i can stay at 600-800ms.. also this is all b4 the earthquake xD..

Either way, like I posted in some other post, shell out extra bucks for VPN service, it works great for me for a week since the VPN server is locally located and they have a good international linkage from there on. Getting really good response and manageable pings (400~700)

Its true.

By the way.. not only TmNet Bandwidth Throttle connections. Bandwidth Throttle is very common in alot of isp nowadays.

Do you think tmnut invented this brilliant technology? omfg. no way. all they did was got some advice from some overseas ISP on how to handle overflowing connections and still provide QoS, hence Bandwidth Throttle.

And heres a link for all the isp who bandwidth throttle. This is to prove that my fact is straight non-bias and true.

If I still suffering poor WoW exp after the submarine cables are officially annouced fixed, I'm gonna jump over to other ISP.

Seems Jaring is trying to grab off some of the online customers from TMNut.

No point argue with TMNut, there are more options out there now. Spend your anger and efforts to look up other ISPs.

I'm just giving them few more weeks over the excuse on the broken cables, though I still about 6 months more to finish up the contract.
But since they can't provide me "acceptable" performance over online gaming exp, they practically breached their contract already.

I talked to some of my buddies at TMNET. They say we will get what we have had before the earthquake near the end of the month... might be 20th.

If it is cap for now, i understand since the connection is not 100% restored yet. But let's wait and see till the end of the month.

We shouldnt even need a VPN server in the first place. It's the service the the isp is providing that should be genuine.
I'll be waiting till the announced date by tmnet about the restoration thingy then I'll start judging. Hoho

Agreed, 24/7 non-stop downloading is pretty inconsiderate. Why is it so hard to download only when you are in front of the computer or do that past midnight? Thats what I basically does anyway. Thats right they paid money to download but its just not right to do that continuously 24/7.

I never get anything <600 ever in my 2 years wow life here & I've tried all the ip range.

Your house copper/fibre optic line affects the your connection as well.

As for me, my ping usually around 200 to 500ms consistencly. 600ms sometimes. Above 700 is very rare unless tmnet having some connection problem

I still cant play bg or raid,
when theres more than 20 ppls on that area ,my latency from 200ms flew up to 2k~6kms.otherwise its around 200~500ms .

I made a food analogy in another section. The gist is like this:

The internet is like a buffet table, both with healthy and unhealthy stuff. People will gorge on it if the owner out there keep promoting all-you-can-eat. Yeah, people who just keep eating is kiasu, but after all it's "all-you-can-eat", you're getting what you paid for. What TM is doing is keep saying "come in we've got space" whereas the restaurant inside is already crowded. New customers who came in then complain when they can't find enough seats. Instead of stopping the false advertising, TM is now insisting "all-you-can-eat" but "one-plate-of-food-every-half-hour" (throttling).

Lol...

And it is the only restaurant in town, other ISPs still pinjam TM's backbone.

YES.. the line is still bad for WoW and any other p2p/streaming applications. This is because of a "temporary" throttling. I hope it is temporary. This is normal since the earthquake did destroy the international line and bandwidth need to be watch until they fix the line 100%. If by the end of the month they haven't remove the throttling (assuming line is fix), then we can petition.

Its always been there and its not temporaly. Why you suffer more now is because there is not enough bandwidth to go around to WoWers and P2Pers And hence the throttling increases and therefore more lag.

Its very very easy equation. If i have more bandwidth means theres less throttling means less lag. Easy.

Blame the 24/7 P2P users, and also blame TmNet aswell for not buying additional bandwidth or even take it to the next level like sgers did.

Sgers Maxonline from starhub is a direct international line and hence they have thier on Tier1 Backbone to rely on.

What Tm has? Shared backbone with hk taiwan routed thru japan/taiwan to US.

Most SG/HK guys i know has <400 ms consistently.
I never get anything <600 ever in my 2 years wow life here & I've tried all the ip range.

This shitty latency cause most trouble in competitive pvp... arrgghh how to do well in arena...

Fack tmnut not p2p users.

i always having lag spike, very bad.....

i can only use 219.95.xx(2 digits).xxx IP, if 219.95.xxx(3 digits).xxx then very bad, almost cant play at all.

but then again, even with 219.95.xx(2 digits).xxx am still exp'ed lag spike from time to time especially in town.

fren of mine stay same area with me (sri petaling), he can get 219.95.94.xxx which is a good connection but i can never that IP, i dun understand.

i heard some rumours quite some times ago that someone hacked into tmnet server and screwed up the IP configuration and they dunno how to reconfigure it again, amazing.

and now + EQ in taiwan, everything is gg..... doh.gif

Lol ok. The ip config is based on the dhcp server in every datacenter. Each location is assign a certain set of ips range. If you are in that location you will be assign to that ip.

Oh yea, this is to reduce ip conflict which is major havoc on a isp.
