My friend said it's not easy to get into Finisar. The HR people shared the story behind with one of my friends during a career fair (campus recruitment).

If you are how come you only know unisem..
DO you know the two person(the big big boss a.k.a founder) who started unisem are actually ex-carsem engineer...

Finisar is one for the super hot company in ipoh.. the only MNC semiconductor company after seagate left Ipoh..
Btw finisar currently resides at seagate old plant at Tasek industrial park..

i thought it was founded by the Chia Brothers?

somehow HL group got a part in Carsem. Carsem have 2 factories- S site in Jelapang whereas M site is in Jln Lapangan Terbang there.

unisem founder was indeed affiliated with carsem once but that was history.

both are local companies but has since established plants overseas, i.e. china, etc.

for unisem remuneration, well, you should not place similar expections like those in MNC.

which area are you interested in?

What does the S and M sites mean?

S = Sales where M = Marketing??

From what i heard.. Sales & Marketing, packaging and shipment is at the plant near airport.. manufacturing, assembly and testing is at Jelapang..

might be. i have no idea as well..

The 3 companies mentioned b4 can consider as best in Ipoh liao
Unisem ---> around simpang pulai
Carsem ---> Jelapang and the one near Airport (forget wat name)
FInisar ---> Near jln kuala kangsar

For me, Finisar is the best, MNC mah......They r more concentrate in Fibre optics.
Carsem, IC manufacturing.
Unisem, dunno.....

How can you compare Finisar with carsem and unisem where both arent MNC..

how much they offer for a fresh grad, say for position of mfg or process engineer?

normally semicon reward staff with good bonus during a good year, does unisem generous in this aspect?

and what is the market outlook for 2007? unisem recently been linked with Apple iphone, true?

fresh entry for engineer with degree is ard 500 less than Intel entry level.

bonus depends very much on company profit. remember that carsem and unisem are still local companies.

well, unisem may get the apple iphone product line but they do not produce and assembly the whole unit. just at IC level.

Currently i'm working in Venture and recently being asked for an interview in Unisem... of cos Unisem is in Perak, near my hometown while my Venture plant is in JB...If i really successfully get through the interview section, do you think i shall go Unisem work leh??

I have a friend working in UniSEM.
Fresh grad is RM2.5k.
OT claim cannot remember.

Finisar, I was told that fresh grad RM2.7k but they looking for experieced employees instead of fresh graduate for the time being.

if you have friends working in carsem or unisem, it's easier to get in. i went for an interview @ unisem before, their offer is quite high. but, bear in mind of the VSS thingy. finisar..very stress..my colleague cabut after working for 3 weeks and came back to the old company..

haha, my cousin told me that he juz got his 3 mths bonus before cny after juz working for 1 yr and 1 mth for unisem.

UNISEM is same with Carsem, both are semicon line ..
Finisar is fibre optics but slowly venturing into semicon line.

UNI and Carsem seldom have VSS or retrenchment but Finisar, yes .. in additional, the area they are occupying is FTZ which
is due in several years thus they need to pay tax while others no need cos it's local companies.

As for UNI, 3 months bonus and people are leaving F n C to join U.

Pending on which dept u r interested .. But i am pretty sure it's a lot better working environment than others ..

for finisar, fresh grad is 2.5, if masters fresh grad, it's 2.7.

first, ask the interviewer whether u work for UNISEM (M) or Unisem Advanpack Technology (oso inside UniseM)..but i can know if u tell here who the interviewer after the session..haha, good company, benefit, hmm...Unisem (M) and UAT got a lot of different even the HR is the same...the management is way different...oso the benefit..

highest paywise is MEMC

behind Finisar. heard alot big shot from Uni / carsem try to apply also cannot.

Finisar management not really good. trust me on this. alot political and old staff always stir the pot

Any different between working hour at unisem and unisem advanpack tech??

Is it 5 days work basis per week?

for engineer, both UM and UAT work 5 days per week. Same working time.
But they freeze hiring now.

Almost all my family in Ipoh who are working age are in one of these factories. Basically the only significant employers in Ipoh offering salaries that are close to what you'd earn in KL doing the same thing.

If you're a section head or better in any of these places... you'd be leading a very comfortable life in Ipoh.
