QUOTE(Ultimaweapon @ Jul 20 2016, 06:31 AM) Well, some online research would go a long way, but according to:- Thanks for your advice. Well I am Msian and I got job offer from electronic retail store(SG) which offer me that amount of salary. I was thinking,Isn't that kind of low...LINK It seems quite usual. But then again, why they would prefer to hire a foreigner for that when they have locals for that? Maybe the senpais on the forum can further elaborate or correct me if I'm wrong. |

QUOTE(madmoz @ Jul 20 2016, 09:06 AM) It is kinda low to be honest. Yes, indeed. You are right. Left none for saving parts....sighAt the very least, I'd say meals = breakfast 3, lunch 5 and dinner 5 so that's 13/day. No drinks with meals. That's 390 for 30 days. MRT = 1.15 one way, so that's another 69, assuming you travel twice everyday. Rent is like, what, 550 nowadays? So that's 1,009 per month already, and we haven't included other stuff like mobile phone bills, groceries, clothing, entertainment, travel home expenses etc etc. That's a pretty frugal lifestyle as it is already really, and not very enjoyable if you ask me. I'm sure some of the other fellas here have some useful money saving tips though, which will be very helpful. |

QUOTE(icycokes @ Jul 20 2016, 10:11 AM) I used to work as a retail assistant selling mobile phones in 2008. My base salary was $1200 and that was 8 years ago. Assuming a 3% inflation a year, the amount of salary with the same value would be $1520. But let's said if your stock is lost, then you have to pay for it right?Check with them if you get commissions. My gross pay was around $1600 to $1800 with commission so it was not too bad. |

QUOTE(knwong @ Jul 23 2016, 09:11 PM) MOM won't stop you changing job. It's free market. Just 15% income tax to deduct from last pay Thank you so much for your advise sir. Hmm but for the 15% income tax、does it applies to permanent workers as well who worked for 1 year in the company? But the company that you resigned from may imposed penalties for resigning early. My advise, just stay on in the company and slowly gain experience and network (more important). This post has been edited by stargazer92: Jul 24 2016, 12:44 AM |

Just 15% income tax to deduct from last pay 15% is deduct from last pay, do you mean is basic salary, commission and other etcs. Let's said my salary is 1000 and commission is 500, so total 1500*0.15 = 225 for the income tax right? For my company, it did not stated any penalties imposed to me if I resign, just need to give one day notice to themBut the company that you resigned from may imposed penalties for resigning early. QUOTE(nothingz @ Aug 4 2016, 03:26 PM) Less than 6 months, that is all i know. He said pr is ok because you have re-entry permit Thank you so much for your advice, appreciate itTo withhold your salary is a standard practice required by IRAS. You can resign anytime as long as you served sufficient notice and you are sure that your new employer can get you a work pass. To be safe, wait till the new work pass is approved only tender your resignation in the current company ☺ |

QUOTE(aLertz @ Aug 22 2016, 09:52 AM) for my case, surrender EP to employer to cancel, then employer will email u 2 acknowledgement email from mom which is the cancellation letter and a short term visit pass. That short term visit pass u can print out and it'll act like the white card... I see. Thanks for info bro. Appreciate it. I have another question, if let's said I get my salary paid already and I give notice to my employer to resign. What wil happen?I heard people said that normally the last payment for the salary will be on hold by my employer right? Because they need to check with IRAS regarding the income tax for the foreign employee right?. This post has been edited by stargazer92: Aug 22 2016, 04:29 PM |

QUOTE(aLertz @ Aug 22 2016, 04:32 PM) yes, they'll hold your final month pay to be use to clear your income tax... For my case, my notice period is only one days.u can leave immediately? no notice period? i'm not sure about this...i guess if they can't clear then you have to pay your own? I was planning to leave the company after I get my salary. But I not sure wat will happen if I did this way. |

QUOTE(KilJim @ Aug 22 2016, 05:48 PM) Why would you time it to be the day right after? Bcoz I just work for the company for less than 60 days so that I will exempt from the tax, IRAS categorized it as Short Term Employment. So the day where I earn my salary, which is 55 days that I work in my current company. If you're getting your pay for 1 full month but have not earned it, you'll still have to pay back So if more than 60 days, I need to pay 15% of my salary for the tax. So do you mean even if i got my salary, I need to pay back to my employer to clear the tax right? |
