Hi all sifus here are my current profile:

Age: 31
Job Title : Senior Quality Engineer
Job Desciption : Handle product's quality
Years spent in company : 3 years
Company : MNC
Industry : Manufacturing
Tenure: Permanent
Employment Level : Executive
Location: Melaka
Experience before joining : 4 Years (Product Quality Engineer)
Total Experience: 7 years (all working in Malaysia)
Highest education background : Degree in Electrical Mechatronics
Current Salary : RM 4,700

My question, is it reasonable if I put my Salary expectation SGD 5,000? Is it too high? Initially I did not want to put any numbers, but it is mandatory column when registering at Jobstreet.sg.

Thanks!

Wow, I think my expectation is too high already. 3,5k is around 74% from my current salary dollar to dollar. Anyway at least I have some hints what to put.

$3k cannot survive in SG? if you expect to have the lifestyle of KL in SG then confirm cannot.
*
My concern is more in my monthly commitment where my average monthly expenses now is around RM 5k! So basically it already exceeded my monthly salary. So I should be considering the expenses needed in sg too if I am about to stay in Sg. I guess the minimum pay that I should accept is $4k.

Somewhere at larkin. Bcoz my workplace is at Changi. More convenient using tambak Johor. For 2nd link, i dun have any idea...
Same la. I oso end up takling to the wall even i have a gaming laptop. I couldn't play any games due to another tenant hogging the line. Ping is mostly 500 to 1k-ish right after he come home from work....

Now, i bring my MY bikes and pay the $4 daily VEP and keep it inside SG. Yes, it cost me another $120-ish/mth to keep the bike but its worth it. Atleast i can jalan2 when i'm bored. Less time talking to the walls...

Bro, its 40km one way from Larking to Changi, 80km in a day. You can tahan to ride so long ah.

Anyway, may I know which industry you are in, are you an engineer?

Hi all,

I put both my mobile no. and current address in M'sia in my resume. Will I even get a chance to be called by employer? How did you guys do this to secure your job back then. So far only applied to 10 companies which are related to my field. Going to drop more.

Thanks!

i also just put my Malaysian details.. i'm not sure whether having local details helps or not. but i didnt have and it didnt seem to matter, i still got offered anyway. yup, try to apply more.. tailor your resume and cover letter for each company you try and whenever possible, send through email rather than job sites.. wish you the best~!!

Thanks for your reply bro. I have another question, I was graduated Bachelor degree from UTM Skudai in 2008. Do Sg companies recognize degree from UTM? Or they just recognize certain Uni from Msia only?

i went through two offers. one total contrast from the other. The one i got, looked at my course subjects i took, which i fared badly, and asked why so and the subjects relevant to the job scope what i learned from those subjects. Fortunately i scored quite well for the subjects relevant to the job i applied. so... ultimately he was quite pleased, didnt ask much further and eventually i got the job.

The other one on the other hand, asked my fyp what i do, and so happen it wasnt that relevant to the job scope, and blasted back "nothing to do with what we do here, so why we need you" . Then he looked at my uni, and he said, "Malaysia nowadays a lot of rubbish unis, and you're out from one of them". He said he barely knows UM... He even asked, whats UM famous for? I said prolly medic but i wasnt sure cause i dont study there. He hit back saying "See, even your best uni is good at nothing, so what of you".

So to your question whether they recognize or not, really comes down to the employer. UTM has a solid reputation obviously it should be recognized but depending on employer, some can play the fool on you, some dont see uni as the primary measure of how good you are. Multinationals will obviously prefer academics from world top ranked unis. Local companies/SMEs maybe not much so...  But you graduated in 2008 surely you have work experience within these 8 years right? work experience > uni degree - thats what i think.
*
The second one so langsi the interviewer, "Malaysia nowadays a lot of rubbish unis, and you're out from one of them". Hopefully I wont get this type of person during interview. Afraid I will lose my temper lol.

Yes, I do have 7 years of experience in Manufacturing environment as quality engr. I just wanted to make sure that all of the information being placed in my resume are easy to understand/recognize by potential employers. This includes my contacts e.g mobile, address and education.

Thanks anyway for your feedback and share. thumbup.gif

Every recruiter and hiring manager main objective is to hire the RIGHT candidate for the job.

If they choose to hire someone just because it's easy, cheaper and faster for the candidate to come for interview, you'll be wasting everyone's time including yourself when you discover the person you want to hire is not a good fit

Good companies with proper hiring policy will not be bothered with candidates' MY tel number, address, etc. They'll go the extra miles to get the right talents for the job. Some may even have budget to fly the candidates to over to their office for the interview

Well said.

it all depends on how desperate one is to land a job in SG, some prefer to sit and wait for the right employer, right salary and right job to come to them, while some prefer to go out and grab the opportunity instead of waiting.
i believe that every little bit of advantage helps, and i'm willing go the extra mile just to get hired.
