i went through two offers. one total contrast from the other. The one i got, looked at my course subjects i took, which i fared badly, and asked why so and the subjects relevant to the job scope what i learned from those subjects. Fortunately i scored quite well for the subjects relevant to the job i applied. so... ultimately he was quite pleased, didnt ask much further and eventually i got the job.
The other one on the other hand, asked my fyp what i do, and so happen it wasnt that relevant to the job scope, and blasted back "nothing to do with what we do here, so why we need you" . Then he looked at my uni, and he said, "Malaysia nowadays a lot of rubbish unis, and you're out from one of them". He said he barely knows UM... He even asked, whats UM famous for? I said prolly medic but i wasnt sure cause i dont study there. He hit back saying "See, even your best uni is good at nothing, so what of you".
So to your question whether they recognize or not, really comes down to the employer. UTM has a solid reputation obviously it should be recognized but depending on employer, some can play the fool on you, some dont see uni as the primary measure of how good you are. Multinationals will obviously prefer academics from world top ranked unis. Local companies/SMEs maybe not much so... But you graduated in 2008 surely you have work experience within these 8 years right? work experience > uni degree - thats what i think.
The second one so langsi the interviewer, "Malaysia nowadays a lot of rubbish unis, and you're out from one of them". Hopefully I wont get this type of person during interview. Afraid I will lose my temper lol.
Yes, I do have 7 years of experience in Manufacturing environment as quality engr. I just wanted to make sure that all of the information being placed in my resume are easy to understand/recognize by potential employers. This includes my contacts e.g mobile, address and education.
Thanks anyway for your feedback and share.
