U.s spent over $2 trillions on war in afghanistan. believe u.s would be happy to spend over $3 trillions if could weaken russia for a few decades.

Unless there is a premature cease fire; either way the war end, russia will pay for the rebuilding of ukraine.

QUOTE(Davidtcf @ Apr 5 2023, 11:39 PM)
Yea the war is affecting the whole world. US currency being cheapened for spending so much in helping Ukraine.

Russia exports oil, wheat, and other natural resources which is having their prices affected as well. Scalpers will come in to buy cheap from Russia and sell them at a higher price to other countries to avoid sanctions. This is making such goods more expensive. Another cause for inflation. Latest news is OPEC cutting oil production which will also jack up inflation if oil prices reach 100 a barrel.

Countries reopening everywhere now with people going crazy traveling.. Another source of spending making prices go up.

Hence Fed is not giving up on raising interest rates yet as long inflation doesn't go down. Hard to see it go down soon with the above factors. This is why some experts are predicting a recession soon.

When company growths get affected by recession (by too many jobless people, or people not earning enough to buy more of their goods or services), that's when their stock prices will tank. Can only confirm more as future earnings are revealed globally.

If only Putin stops his war and the world is back on peace again.. That alone will help so much.
*
The biggest threat to the world economy is elevated oil price for extended periods. Contemporary history shows, high oil price lead to worldwide economic recession.

The biggest threat is the war expanding.eg use of nukes or China got involved.
*
Going nuclear is unlikely to happen. PRC couldn't afford to get involve as any oil and raw materials price spike is detrimental to her economy.

hope China is not stupid not to launch a war against Taiwan.
US will definitely help out Taiwan which results in a big war. Maybe other countries will join in too.
Whole world economy will go haywire that time if this happens.

China will definitely launch a soft war 1st against Taiwan and matter is when

Any war happens the world will go haywire 🤦‍♀️ just like now with inflation

Historically, CCP will not hesitate to engage in foreign conflict when facing domestic discontent.

Communist teaching is very much different from us. They brainwash put the party 1st. Not economy or money. Less patriotism is a democracy country like us.

Asean is benefiting now from deglobalization into reglobalization. Asean like vietnam and Thailand get more relocation from China.

In Malaysia also, I get more inquiries from EU company for their product shift out from China makers. This company have plant here. They said reducing the risk and dependency.

As long as you are staying away or underweight from discretionary and cyclical sectors it will be fine

Look at Dr Horton you will be surprised how strong the economy is

Now it is great time as healthcare is undervalued while tech is undergoing correction soon to pick up good value in those stocks

As there is still plenty of liquidity floating around, the market is resilient for the moment.

Trump. The answer is Trump. He seems to think Tariff is some magic cure to fix the economy. This is what happens when you get a loser fail son, who has failed all of his businesses, who had to have his daddy’s money to bail him out, run a country. Imagine if there were no tariffs, all the good news we got this past month would have at least put us in an upward direction with short corrections. It’s all 1 man causing all of this. It’s crazy how billions of people are getting fucked by the orange monkey. I guess maga likes it though.
*
The fascinating part is many believe and worship the orange monkey.

You see China this round confirm not looking to play ball anymore and accommodate US bullying negotiation tactic and retaliate with 34% back at US.

This has delved into who can take the most hit and a lose lose scenario. Globally this would definitely shave a few percentage point off global GDP and at the same time create a scenario of a possible global recession.
*
Given DT is a bully, he will negotiate if either good deal is on the table or he is at disadvantage. Prc and EU will likely counter tax u.s until one side gives in.

trump tariff has upended globalization and economic model known since wwii, it need sometime for policy makers and corporate to digest and workout the new world order. g7-1 summit will probably be called to chart the path forward. those highly geared market e.g korea will likely suffer the most.

Two material events seen now after 12 midnight now in The USA :-

1) Yuan drops to lowest on record, Offshore Yuan.
2) Oil falls below $60 per bbl.
*
rmb devaluation is a tool to counter u.s tariff and assist prc export. only question is how low prc want rmb to be.

jpy, krw, thb, myr, eur, vnd, etc will likely devalue also.

if oil price maintain <$60 for extended period of time, many oil producing countries gdp growth will either flat or negative.

flip flopping policy could be worse than a bad policy. many funds preferred to stay on sideline until the situation is clear.

It is madness.. or it could be a crooked way to make money.

Some of those MAGAs politicians are using this way to make money (insider trading).
Publicly, they said they support his policy.. behind the scene, they sold equities ahead of time and re-buy again.

There are reports that 2-3 hours before he made announcements, he signaled "Buy" to his MAGA based.
Huge money flows back into the system before the algos took notice.

That 90 days pause is a game that he wants to repeat again just to make more money.

US really becoming a third world joke of a financial market.

President that tweets to swing market, pardon scammers and grifters for donations, attacking financial regulators and dismantling watchdog agency. So many people in positions that has conflict of interest that even pelosi seemed tamed in comparison.

Doing all this in the open shamelessly and everyone lets them get away with it.

A mockery of rule based society.

Power corrupt, absolute power corrupt absolutely.
