Hope it doesn't affect irish domiciled etfs.

Do u think it will affect unit trust returns too?

Sometime,... emm,... how we interpret this is not important,... it's how our brokerages and fund houses interpret that is important. The brokerages and the fund houses are the ones doing the withholding.

Won't. Ireland is a tax friendly country. They are targeting countries that tax US Tech.

Won't be broker. It will be US govt likely will come out with list of countries to with hold the tax on. Nothing to with broker. Broker just help to collect tax on US govt orders. They don't interpret anything.
*
You're wrong.

I know brokers worldwide who still collect withholding taxes when there are instructions that such proceeds do not require taxes withheld. Then when we ask them why are they withholding when there are these instructions and these instructions, they just say they will need to withhold,... and that they will remit (back) to the IRS. God knows if they do,...

We have to take it up with the IRS after that.

If they have followed proper instructions earlier, we wouldn't have needed to do more work with the IRS.

Brokers DON'T JUST HELP THE IRS, THEY DO MORE THAN WHAT THE IRS TELLS THEM TO 'PROTECT THEIR ASSES'.

Well,... there are investors who are happy paying taxes to the US Govt,... so that's fine.

Frankly,... I don't mind too,... paying taxes for good assets, but I wished to see the quantum of taxes to pay. Not 20%,...

What is your prediction on ireland domicled etf? Will it be affected if UK is labelled as discriminatory since it it listed in LSE?
*
I'm sorry bro,.. I don't know,... but I do know know is this US Administration is really keen on taxing as many of the outside world as possible. If it doesn't happen today, it might happen tmrw or the next year. There is so much uncertainty out there.

I'm sure many high net worth individuals would have moved some of their assets out of US-linked investments. Many funds would have taken similar steps too.

Of course they need to cover their ass. Anyway so far IBKR have with hold the correct taxes. I don't know about you but for me they have been doing their work well. They don't go extra and with hold unnecessarily.

Because normal US reits and those listed in Singapore are trying not to get tax? Where got fair like that?

Dream of all govt is tax as much as possible. I am sure lots of people have money away but still US is the easiest to make money and most liquid. How much you tax also people will still want to invest in the US for reasons of
1. Easy to make money
2. Very liquid

*
Tq for your replies,...

There you go,... brokerages are covering their asses, right ? So they just tax first-lar,... therefore you were wrong when you said "Won't be broker."

I can tell you,... the broker will be the first line to withhold tax,... then subsequently, we will need to go back to The IRS to claim back what the broker took. We need to raise IRS File Numbers, etc,...

For IBKR, will they do withholding taxes onto instruments like PFLT, and if they do, what documentation is needed to get the exemption ? Notes as below for the latest PFLT dividend payout,.....

"PennantPark Floating Rate Capital Ltd. (NYSE: PFLT) has announced its monthly distribution of $0.1025 per share for June 2025, payable on July 1, 2025, to stockholders of record as of June 16, 2025. The distribution will be sourced from taxable net investment income. PFLT operates as a business development company focusing on U.S. middle-market private companies, primarily investing in floating rate senior secured loans. The company is managed by PennantPark Investment Advisers, LLC, a middle market credit platform managing approximately $10 billion of investable capital. The distribution may be exempt from U.S. withholding tax for non-U.S. stockholders when proper documentation is provided, as the company generates qualified interest income and short-term capital gains."

To your second reply : REITs' mandates are to pay out 90% of their net income as dividend to unitholders. Why not fair if these instruments are not taxed against their net income ? Of all people, you shld know this. You invested in REITs too,... or,....... have I misunderstood your question ?

To your third reply,... I invest into the US, SG and into other countries too,... directly into their jurisdictions, ie having accts in a brokerage inside the ctry. I think factors such as 'easy to make money' and liquidity are available everywhere. Just depends on whether you know what to do or not. You are good in Options against US equities, hence, your biasness into the US mkts.

Nothing wrong with that tho',... just like I'm biased with the SG mkts because of its taxfree status, political stability and stable currency. OPenness into the world,.. easy to open accounts, etc,... but emm,... not so easy anymore today.

One more advantage,... but that's just me,... a convenience in attending functions in the companies which we invest into,...

You go invest in PennantPark Floating Rate Capital Ltd. for what? MLP, BDC, Us Reits got all kind of weird tax law. As long as need to with hold IBKR will with hold. But let us see when linde pays me. Will there be any taxes as it's HQ is in LSE and listed on Nasdaq. My research says no.

You do know US reits dividends are not qualified right?

It's not about options. Please la. i didn't even mention options. Easy here means buy hold and do nothing. Market will take care of itself. Another easy here is lots of high quality companies in US market Vs anywhere else. Even grab doesn't want to list in Singapore despite it being a SG company. Can buy and hold 20-30 high quality companies, don't look at it and come back after 10-20 years

You can see Adam khoo page
http://youtube.com/post/UgkxVbm9jUqp0BqUec...cnrt3xIE5OBgKEl

I got no money to travel like you. So atending AGM is useless and irrelevant and to me.
*
Everybody knows US REITs dividends are not qualified. No need to talk abt this. BDCs and MLPs are NOT weird, they are good dividend-paying entities that invest in companies in The USA,... these are instruments that we don't see in many parts of the world.

I think I'm earning more than Adam Khoo in terms of investment income. NO need to look at him.

I forgot to add that US have always lots of high gross margin, high ROIC companies. Hence the choice for investor and those seeking higher valuation of their company.
*
Yep,... no doubt abt that,... and I'm benefitting too from these companies. Problem today is,........ POTUS wants a share of our profits/returns,... a big cut,.......

so let me get this straight. PFLT has no exemption to the 30% WHT for non-USA residents and yet you bring this up? or did i misread something somewhere and PFLT indeed allows us to reclaim the tax
*
I don't understand the what you are trying to imply. What's wrong with bringing up PFLT ?

PFLT is not a REIT.

Too high debt and too high yield and I don't want to touch BDC, MLP or anything which invest in debts especially US..

It's not about following him. It's not about you earning more than him. It's about you opening up your mind to the unique appeal and qualities that the US market have. Something a lot of income based investor like you and especially those in Singapore refuse to open their eyes because of the dividend tax. But it's ok. Not everyone see eye to eye on things. I prioritise quality stocks over income any other day.

If you don't know, don't touch then !

Why is China still hit with 55% tariffs whereas goods entering China is taxed at a mere 10% ? Perhaps I missed out something here,... why is Trump saying this is good for The US & China ? He got the better deal,...

It's a joke running about...

China imposing 55% tariffs onto the U.S, whereas the U.S imposing 10% taxation would mean nothing has changed... And that the situation was back no different than before the trade war...

TACO...  biggrin.gif  tongue.gif
*
Bro,... it's The US imposing 55% tariffs onto the U.S, and China doing only 10% onto incoming US Goods into China.

Year,... TACO,.... thumbsup.gif

Yes, indeed but I think it is a money-grab-while-you can kinda scenario before he goes full TACO and backs down.
They have collected over 70 billions since this tariffs 2.0 started.  I think there's a plan to divert US govt money to
somewhere else for his pet projects.

Thank you for your inputs, bro,...

The last time I spoke with them at their booth at The Lifelong Learning Centre, they said we have to do it manually at their office because we don’t have SingPass.

I opened last time when there is no moomoo Malaysia. You still can do it. I think need SG vpn. Or else they will route you to Moomoo Malaysia.

Skip Moomoo and go for IBKR. It is superior in every way. Way cheaper also.
*
After you've managed to open MooMoo SG, you can log-on as usual. But you'll first have to go to their SG office to open acct 'manually'.

Of course, things were easier when there was no MooMoo Msia,... it's always like that,... when there is no local subsidiary yet, you can always join the foreign entity if it is good.

Hi,...

I will watch the fireworks tomoroow morning at 9 am.

Then I will watch the news closely to see if POTUS and team starts sending final letters on tariffs to whichever countries.

Then I would find a way to relate those actions with stock movements in The US and in Singapore,... and buy or short accordingly.

Oh yeah,... one more,... with the passing of the 'big beautiful Tax Bill' this morning,... see what effects which ctr and do accordingly. I would think POTUS would want to sign this asap,.. and not wait till the bill arrives on his desk after July 4th....

Ok bro,... I've decided not to watch the fireworks this morning, starting in a few mins. I'm deep inside my work now,... planning for my Southern Europe Drive. It's quite complicated here.

I saw a pop-up on my phone last night from Yahoo Finance - Trump has started to send out the tariff letters, and I saw something like,... what ?,... 70% tariffs being imposed somewhere,... Things are moving, even on Independance Day.

Bro,... Based on what you understand on Section 899 earlier,... how does it affect US REITs which are listed in the SGX ? Just curious here,... I saw in your input that this bill has been dropped.
