Also use it for Popcorn-time and downloading.

QUOTE(Archmage Warlic @ Dec 27 2016, 11:46 PM)
Thanks for your reply. I had already bought a new laptop this morning without checking LYN (I assumed that nobody would ever reply after some waiting).

OH GOD I'M SO ANGRY AT MYSELF NOW

I initially aimed to purchase the Acer Aspire E5-575G-54G7 (15.6" i5 7200U, 4GB DDR4 SDRAM, 1 TB, NV 940MX, W10H), or your third suggestion, Acer Aspire F5-573G-556W (15.6" i5-7200U, 4GB, 1TB, 128GB, NV 940MX, W10H).

I ended up purchasing Acer F5-573G-57VD (15.6" i5 6200U, 4GB DDR4 SDRAM, 1TB, 128GB, NV 940MX, W10H) for MYR2699.

However, I find 4 problems pretty quickly that made me regret my purchase.

user posted image

1. Battery Capacity
One of the first things I did after the purchase was to check the battery capacity. As you can see from the image above, the battery of my new laptop could only hold about 82% of its design capacity just an hour after purchase. This seems pretty bad for a new laptop, considering that the laptop my mother bought recently had a design capacity of 48000, and could actually hold over 49000+ one month after regular use.

People say that purchasing tech gadgets is always a hit-and-miss. I feel like I have "missed" plenty of times. Is this supposed to be normal for a new laptop, or should I bring this device back to the seller?

2. Battery Design
Given that I need to run my computer(s) for close to 20 hours daily, I thought I could at least attempt to prolong the lifespan of the battery by removing the battery and using the device plugged-in. To my horror, the battery for Aspire F15 F5-573G-57VD is built-in. There is no way to remove the battery without unscrewing the entire bottom panel.

I realized too late. I should have spent more time to check, but given that I was too preoccupied with the specs and the laptop was wrapped in cling film, I couldn't really see until after purchase.

3. Processor
As mentioned earlier, Acer Aspire F5-573G-556W was one of the laptops I planned to purchase. I told the shopkeeper that I wanted to see Acer Aspire F5-573G, thinking that all "573G" laptops are just the same. She recommended the "last 573G model they have", which is on display. Thinking that is the same model as the one I saw online (and you recommended), I didn't notice that the F5-573G-57VD comes with only i5 6200U processor, instead of the i5 7200U processor.

4. Pixellation
The screen will pixellate randomly, and the pixellations will disappear when I mouse over the weird black / colourful pixels. It's not easy to predict (only comes occasionally) and hard to duplicate. Is this something worth worrying about, or just something insignificant?

Bonus: Price
Only after purchasing the laptop for a hefty price of MYR2699, I learned that the exact same model of laptop is available for sale on Lazada for only MYR2448.

Please excuse me while I go stab myself.

a little bit slow replying since its holiday season and im on a mountain at that time, so, i could not reply. i guess others having holiday too.. well, too bad for you. never though u are facing this unfortunate purchase.

For battery, if i not mistaken there article about laptop battery. the battery capacity are design to cover at least 80%. im could not remember why.i did read it many years back. if u found the article, do correct me... if im wrong, do correct me as well.

if you still hesitate, i suggest you to have a technical assistance from customer service department. email or call.

but for pixellation.. its something you need to worry. its not normal. can say it has display corruption so means that something on the video card.. how bout update the driver.. will it solve? this is something you can check with the shop.

so you are purchasing display unit?? the price kinda expensive. lazada... doh.gif sometimes, need to browse patiently, same model but different price

Does anybody know where can I find a good deal w/ Dell Inspiron 15 7559 around RM3k+/- ?
So far I found out some shops either out of stock or around RM3.4k+ which is almost same price w/ Dell Inspiron 15 7566.
I more prefer 7559 bcs of IPS, design, and price(thought that might be cheap compare to 7566 but not really that much sweat.gif )

And one more option might be buying an Acer Aspire F15 F5-573G-52QJ or F5-573G-56UR
plus a GTX1060 for my desktop.

The reason I came out w/ this bcs I'm graphic designer student, I need a laptop for college
but when I'm home I most likely will use my desktop.
For now I do using PS/AI, maybe video editing or some light 3d modeling in future.
I do gaming too but not so often for now.
So I'm thinking I get the Acer for light PS/AI in college,
if need to render big project I probably will let desktop do the job.

But my concern is does Acer's build quality, durability better than last few years?

My total budget will be RM3.5k. If you were me what will you do? or any other options?
Suggestion needed. Thank you very much thumbup.gif

P/S My pc spec is I5 4430, B85M-G, 8GB Ram, GTX650Ti, LG IPS monitor.

Thanks for the recommendation sifu.
But just doesn't fit my budget lahh...
actually 2.5k is like my max ady...
if were to top up abit, all I afford is around 2.7k
one more thing is that, I already final year ady, working soon, and that time will start assembling myself a gaming pc ady.
so I would say this laptop will serve its maximum potential/purpose for maximum 2-2.5 years.
after that is more like an alternative ady. =)

I was eyeing at something like Acer E5-575G, Asus A556 something like that. Any other recommendation? =)

If lucky, the 1050Ti for laptop will debut soon and you can buy a laptop with that GPU for around RM3.5k with i7 and 8GB RAM. biggrin.gif

Else, maybe a laptop with 940MX will suit your need, and the remaining money can focus on a GTX1070. biggrin.gif

There is also HP and Asus around that price, but Asus comes with 930MX. Try checking the laptops out first at a physical store and see which fits you best.

Hi guys, appreciate if you guys can recommend laptop from the following information :

1. Preferred Brand - Any, as long as robust.
2. Budget - Not stated, but have around RM 4k to get 2-3 laptops.
3. Usage - For school teachers to use for teaching purpose, connect to projector, basic microsoft office usage.
4. Screen size - Smaller the better I guess for cheaper option, but need to be robust.
5. Additional Notes - This laptop will only be used for teaching purpose, and it must be robust meaning that has to last for quite long time. Need connection to connect to projector. Am helping my dad to get the best bang for buck for his private school's usage.

I'll go for aspire S13.....

Asus ZenBook UX360C-AC4189T 13.3" m3-7Y30, 8GB, 256GB, Intel, W10H also within rm3499 if i not mistaken. how ever... battery life longer than s13.. because of its different type of processor. m3-7y30 is very efficient dual-core SoC for tablets and passively cooled  and hence longer battery life.

And so I bought the Zenbook for 4K.
