Hey all, want to ask your advise on a travel camera for photos and videos.
I'm a lay person with no skills but appreciate beautiful photos n videos, looking for
A easy point n shoot that can reproduce close to dslr quality photos and HD videos would be great for
Capturing the moments, at the moment I've narrowed it down to the Sony RX 10 ii.
The rx100 would be perfect in travel size but overheats after 5 mins of video recording.
Your inputs would be appreciated.
Only over heat if you take in 4K.. Since your budget is already in Rx100 series(assume is Rx iii onwards), the canon g7x mark i or ii is also very good, for easy point and shoot and touristy feature(selfie mode, panorama, time lapse, slow mo, decent zoom)... the best part is charge by USB, which all of us have power banks anyway. Get a spare battery if possible as point and shoot out of juice quite fast
So getting rx10 for extra 1k would be more cost effective instead of buying separates video camera since it does 4K.Less to carry for travel but hefty bulk to carry around rx10 doesn't have a flippable lcd for selfie mode , I'm wondering why most Are recommending the smaller camera ? My regret with the smaller camera was traveling to Switzerland and Queenstown Nz the smaller camera just couldn't capture the beauty.

Would advise you to get a dedicated camera like lumix or rx100 cause they have advantages over phone cam that you wish you have during travel. But some people i know bought one, after travel, put in storage for long time never to see sunlight again. So unless you intend to take more photos in future and dont mind a bit of hassle to upload to instagram, get a good smartphone cam instead.

Like the guys are saying, a nice camera phone should do the trick. Just buy a 2/3 spare powerbank and a BIG micro SD card.
Image quality from modern day camera phones are comparable to compact cameras. So if you're not the type of person who carries around a camera wherever you go, buying a new dedicated camera might just be sitting on your desk, collecting dust.
Wow those are really good shots, I believe this is the skill of the photographer, capturing these beautiful photos. Any thread where u give tips...
Good composition but the img is a little smudgy to me cause of the noise reduction (or could be youtube display) and slightly overexpose on the neon signboard. And I believe the guy uses tripod to capture in low light (evidenced by the blur of moving objects).
However that's my personal opinion cause I like to pixel peep. If you think the pictures are good, then phone camera is really more than enough. Lugging around bulky dslr won't make your picture better if you primarily use "Auto" and don't take time and money to invest in lenses and post-processing.

there pictures were good for a camera capture, am looking for a bridge camera with good optics and good quality photos with consumer friendly shooting. think the sony rx10 ii fits the bill at the momment,a phone is still built as a phone.everything is a compromise, a camera phone is definately not a compromise i can live wit and i also understand now i my photography knowledge has to increase to be able to utilize the hardware even though its advertised a prosumer....

1. All handheld, no tripod used. Blur of moving object was because the phone camera was at slow shutter speed due to low-light conditions.
2. Overexposed on signboard, nothing you can do about that. Even with dedicated camera the output will have over / under-exposed parts. Some phone cameras with better software might be able to reduce blown highlight issues.
