Yeah, real world issues might help. Another way is probably through reading. Read more books in English. Or if books bore you read magazines in English. Listen to English songs.. Or maybe. Take up extra English classes outside of college to help you through. Once you get the hang of it, English isn't so bad. It helps alot.
