Haha I always have songs playing in my head when I do laps. Or I just count how many I have left, and tell myself keep going.

QUOTE(smallbug @ Oct 17 2008, 03:19 PM) I usually don't dare to bathe in public changing rooms. When I come out of the pool, it's usually a quick rinse at the external shower, then change inside changing room, then go back home for proper bath. Luckily I swim in condo. So the changing room is quite ok. Managed by private after all...Very icky lar, our public changing rooms, with the dampness and all. |

Is the 3K pool olympic size? How come I feel it's much longer than the Kelana Jaya pool?

You kick according to your pull in fly, free, well basically everything. But freestyle has a different thing, it depends on your pull-to-kick ratio. If you can do it fast without your stroke rate getting slower, then kick fast. That's for sprinting.

QUOTE(artemis348 @ Nov 5 2008, 02:06 PM) Fast or slow depends on your speed, or how you want to swim. It usually also depends on your rhythm and balance. For example, eventhough Ian Thrope had an unusual rhythm, it definitely didn't mean it was efficient per se, coz it worked for him. Lol this is for long distance. Not suitable for sprinting.I can describe how I do it when I am cruising. This method is efficient in terms of energy saving per distance, but is not slow either. I've have taught this method to some people before. It seems simple, but it actually turns out to be not so easy for beginning swimmers because it requires rhythm and balance, but it is a good way to learn balance in the water. For this method, I make one kick per stroke. Each stroke is a long and gliding stroke. Also, there is a lot of body roll each stroke. So it'll look like rolling left and right. Each stroke is fairly strong to provide the propulsion for the glide, so less strokes are used per distance. You should be able to maintain some speed which is necessary for this method. If you're too slow, it will not work. So in the end, there is enough rest between each stroke so you won't get tired for quite a while. I travel around 2-3 meters per stroke. It's not really called a body roll is it? Because you rotate your shoulders. |

You should try 1km non-stop. I don't know, but it's exhilarating for me. The farther I go, the less tired I get. So I fail at sprinting. >.<

There's swimming lessons conducted at the KJ pool.
RM210 for 13 lessons or something I think. Coach is friendly, my brother is learning swimming there. |

Wahh Putrajaya... very far. I dunno any coaches there. There's a public pool there right? Public pools usually have swim classes. If not pools accessible by public transport are Bandar Tun Razak pool, Kelana Jaya pool, Bukit Jalil pool. Very sure Kelana Jaya has class.

Yes, rhythm is more important. You get the rhythm wrong, very difficult. Had a hard time having my coach correct my rhythm for me.

Hmm side to side is actually really disturbing but since it's a public pool, no one would mind much. Well I certainly don't since you have as much access to the pool as I do. Unless they are training. Then they get sorta mad. You just have to look out for them I guess. They will look out for you too. Why don't you swim full lap?
