In a forumn like this where people are reacting to  a slight drop in FD rate
and scurrying to get that few decimal % extra,
i am surprised you guys ignore the power of compounding effect not to mention loss of opportunity etc
happily leaving the interest to maturity.........

Banks would be most happy to have more of you.

Say the annual interest is RM200k, monthly is RM16+k and you leave that to the banks to enjoy
for 6 - 12 months......Now imagine banks have millions of that............sikit sikit can add up to alot.

I am with you on this ! Where possible, I always ask for monthly interest. smile.gif

Assume FD 50K, CASA 2.5k
FD 4.15% PA = 2075

UOB 3.95%
lump sum 52.5k
Interest : 52.5k x 3.95%  = 2073..

I dont see any different here. Slightly different only. Correct me if wrong.

QUOTE(wil-i-am @ Aug 2 2016, 10:20 PM)
Your calculation is rite
In addition, u can move around 2.5k anytime
*
If can move out the 2.5k in CASA immediately (say days later), then the 4.15% FD is a good deal. Then the return is much better than UOB's 3.95%.

But is there a tie up of the 2.5k with the FD tenure ? hmm.gif

Today checked HL interest for step-up FD (placed Oct 1 2015) with second step-up of 4.3%. No change in the step-up rate. Another 2 mths for the 4.3% then 4.7% for last 3 mths ! biggrin.gif

for my case it took two days for my account to be opened, and thus collecting the cert..meaning you need to make another trip to the bank which is troublesome if the location is inconvenient to you
*
Their branches also limited. For Penang, only 1 branch in the mainland side, not a single one on the island.

Hi guys, I want ask if any of you have this problem? My maybank gia fd can't change the maturity to add to principle anymore. It only credit to account.

Another thing with those fd promo, can I do it over online banking and get the promo rate or need go the branch? All very high amount like 10-20k very dangerous bring to bank
*
Most promotion need OTC. Can use bankers cheque, OTC ibg/Rentas. Online transfer also can but some banks have its own rules.

Some of the people here dare to carry 100k cash. notworthy.gif But it does depends on people.

gotta summon u! biggrin.gif

like me, u must have gotten a call from cimb recalling the frnid 5.2% this week.

just when u thought the tenure is too long, it's gone... now happily accepting 4%. laugh.gif
note: frnid is a capital protected interbank rate driven structured product. most people are negative about it, but i did get 5.2% pa, payable qtrly for >4 years. one cut in int rate, it's over... i'm missing it. tongue.gif
*
Yes, boss ? tongue.gif

Did not receive any call from CIMB. Checked CIMB online just now and still showed the Klibor investment.

Since Jan 2012 placement, have been getting the 5.2% every 3 months. But was worried that may get zero later.

So, effective date of the cancellation ? You have moved it out for 4% FD, in CIMB ? hmm.gif

ah.. maybe due to different dates...

mine was recalled aug 2. starting date was may 2.

keep yr fingers crossed...
*
Mine start Jan 3 2012, end Jan 3 2022, 10 years ! bangwall.gif

But they recalled an earlier one that pay out higher, I think about 5.6%. But regret that I signed up this 10 year one. sweat.gif

Anyway will be glad that they pull out this one. I think last time they sent out a letter about the recall.

Putting it in FD of <4% is no issue for me. Except if they have recalled it earlier, then can get the 4.5% FD ................... devil.gif

Anyway, thanks for the heads up. notworthy.gif

QUOTE(jimmy_none @ Aug 5 2016, 09:36 PM)
I am wondering what type of FD you all are talking about. E.g. GIA-i is an investment where "Principal is not guaranteed".. Then Klibor investment doesn't seems to be FD related..  Even the first page FD rate is no where near 4% you all are talking about.. e.g CIMB 4%..

By the way how you calculate those FD returns for more than 12 months? Thanks
*
Please Google the Klibor and u can find more details. It is NOT FD.

For my previous MBB GIA-i which has 12 mth eff rate of 4.5%, today's interest crediting is about 3.85% only !

It was supposed to be 4.5% but as most of u know, I am getting 4% due to MBB's error. Now the 4% is not there !

That shows GIA-i profit not guaranteed and can be adjusted before maturity.

There goes the average of 4.5% yearly interest ! doh.gif

Can those with that promo please confirm their monthly interest ? hmm.gif

Add: For those that read this at later time. It looks like it is due to the recent change of 3.75% for GIA-i interest. Read more posts below.

I got 4.5%p.a. this month as well  thumbsup.gif

OK, thanks for the replies ! notworthy.gif

Oh, thanks ! It is a consolation that the 4.5% is still safe ! sweat.gif

OK, as u all probably know, my GIA-i interest is screwed up. Now thinking back, it could go along with the 3.75% payout change recently (for current GIA-i since Jan 2016). So it becomes between the 4% and 3.75% depending on when the change happens.

So will have to wait for the manual adjustment by MBB branch, which can be over next one week or so. biggrin.gif

Yes, I am glad that they honored their rate despite the drop in OPR  rclxms.gif

Please confirm if you are able to do the manual adjustment  biggrin.gif
*
After my complain to MBB branch, they will do the manual adjustment for me days later (after the 5th of the month). They have been doing this for last 3 months. So this month will wait for next few days.

I was getting a shock when I checked this afternoon. But after the replies realized that likely to be related to the recent change to 3.75%. My GIA-i in Oct 2015 has been taged to normal GIA-i ! doh.gif

Will let u guys know after the manual adjustment by MBB's staff. biggrin.gif

Ya, package 1 is straight FD. 15 mth 4.05% is a good deal to me vs the 3.95% 12 mth by other banks. Considering BNM may reduce rate again later in the year. biggrin.gif

No bullet. Wait for the USD plan as u know it. FD action after that.

But the 4.05% looks like the best deal for now. biggrin.gif
