VW review in the US is also quite bad for reliability and maintenance. their sales over there is also much much lower than the japanese or korean cars.

it's also possible that the mechanic is very incompetence, just simply quote change the whole system to be on the safe side otherwise they might lose money. but in the end it's the consumers who suffer, so this is really unfair.
