at&t is a telco in US. (just like maxis, digi, celcom in Malaysia)

you can pay at&t every month as monthly rental fee + the iphone price for an iphone, that is not guaranteed to work with malaysia telco.

Actually, technically speaking you can use it in Malaysia in roaming mode. Some AT&T specific features won't work though eg. visual voicemail. I'm not sure about the GPRS/EDGE stuff however.

It's a bloody expensive way to own an iPhone but if you really want one biggrin.gif

You guys always mumbling/complaining about 'will it works outside the States'? Do some research to get the answer.

David Pogue, Tech Editor for NYTimes.com is one of the few lucky guys who got the iPhone unit first before others to test it out and review it.

Here is a mini FAQ answered by him in NY Times site.

My favourite:

QUOTE
Will the iPhone work overseas? If you mean to use your AT&T account, yes; call AT&T to turn on international roaming, and then prepare to pay big roaming charges. If you mean to insert some other country's SIM card, no.

Added on June 28, 2007, 8:44 pmNo unlocking can be made so stick with your AT&T simcard! Others, sorry.

laugh.gif we shall wait and see. it's not even out yet. wait till some hacker get their hand on it. those are not someone that will write you a nice review nor receive a free pre-release iPhone to play with.
(look at all the game consoles, aTV & so called 'locked' mobile phones we have...)

cheers.

I have been trying out GoogleMap, one of the functions on the iPhone, the one I tried was PPC version, it needs internet connection to work, and it does not have Malaysia map.

So basically it is useless for us in Malaysia.

You can try it online:-
http://maps.google.com/

Or download the PPC version here:-

Cant wait to see flaws, bugs, defects, issues found by numerous users, if there is one, nothing is perfect. So much hype, and some for sure will be disappointed.
