at&t is a telco in US. (just like maxis, digi, celcom in Malaysia)you can pay at&t every month as monthly rental fee + the iphone price for an iphone, that is not guaranteed to work with malaysia telco.

Cant wait to see flaws, bugs, defects, issues found by numerous users, if there is one, nothing is perfect. So much hype, and some for sure will be disappointed.

hype is over?
anyway, some reading. QUOTE(KTCY @ Jun 30 2007, 04:38 PM) Some review about iPhone. * The mobile version of OS X or whatever it is the iPhone runs takes up 700MB of the device's capacity. Damn son! * There's no way to cut, copy, or paste text! WHOA! Big, big mistake. * No A2DP support. That, friends, is such a huge bummer right there. * Sorry, music can't be used as a ringtone -- even if it's just a raw MP3. No additional ringtones will be sold at launch. * On a PC the iPhone syncs with Outlook for calendars AND addresses! Noice. * It supports Exchange in some capacity, according to Walt, but he doesn't exactly say how. * Pogue again confirms document file reading -- but not editing -- for PDF, Word, and Excel (only). * Adobe Flash support is officially out. It's just not in the browser. Neither is there any other kind of embedded video support. Sorry everybody, that's that. * It will take snaps, but won't record video. How can Apple love YouTube as much as it does and not realize cellphone-shot movies make up a sizeable chunk of the crazy crap you find on there? -darn can't snap video * Oh, and no MMS. And sorry, no voice dialing, either. NO MMS * Contact groups can't be emailed as contact lists. * Apple sez between 300-400 charges the iPhone will lose battery capacity -- you'll send it in and get the cell replaced for a fee. Meh. We knew this would be the case, but still, meh. * Apple can (and supposedly will) be rolling out periodic updates -- no surprise there. * Battery life is, somehow, almost as mind-blowingly good as Apple claims for calls, music, and movies. * As we suspected, users are prompted with lists of WiFi networks if you're not nearby a trusted hotspot. We've seen this on other phones, and we're afraid this would get friggin annoying. * It's said to be very scratch resistant. The facade both front and rear apparently just doesn't pick up marring like regular iPods do. * Voice quality is said to be good -- not great. Source : here Now I'm holding back to get this phone Added on June 30, 2007, 5:05 pm QUOTE(allvin @ Jun 30 2007, 12:18 PM) they can make the phone as generic and sell as generic set rather than tie to any telco. unlock set at higher price.but by dealing with telco, the phone will be cheaper as the telco will partly subsidized the phone, making the phone more affordable to the customer with various plan. and hence sim lock the phone is just a way to secure the phone from partly destroying the telco and attract more customer to the telco. QUOTE(danZach @ Jul 2 2007, 11:20 PM) Hah, apparently they've got the root passwords for every iPhone cracked..... depends. hard to say.source: hackint0sh.org (cos original source got digg'ed) So how long do you think the iPhone will stay locked? some phones (e.g. DB2020 of SE) are unlockable after 2/3 months of unlock development, while some (most of Nokia BB5 platform) is unlockable until now. QUOTE(besaid @ Jul 3 2007, 12:56 AM) i found something on 2nd July NST's Tech&U. Quotes from parts of the full-page article regarding iPhone this is interesting.does that mean that we might be getting US499 (approximately RM1,896) for a model with 4GB of storage, and US599 (approximately RM2,276) for an 8GB model??? but if compared to the trend laid by iPods, retail price will be way too ridiculous and maybe we have to fall back on bulk purchase for cheaper than retail cost(Malaysia, not US)??? QUOTE While AT&T maybe giving up a lot of its customary control of the handset's operations, Apple has given it a five-year US exclusive on the iPhone, another unheard-of deal for the industry, where six months is a more common exclusivity period. And while sharing revenue with Apple, it's not subsidising the retail price of the phone, which is otherwise the practice. that should be the reasons for it's price. unless apple ties with digi / maxis / celcom for 5 years exclusivity and sharing revenue, i doubt you will get that $599 equivalent in Malaysia. |

iPhone Hacked
Yesterday, Jon Lech Johansen (DVD Jon) reported that he successfully activated the iPhone by bypassing iTunes' subscription process, without having to sign on to a two year contract with AT&T. This allows him to use the iPhone in his homeland (Norway), one of many countries where the iPhone is currently unavailable. Using his method, most of the phones features aren't available, however, using the iPhone as an iPod and WiFi-enabled device is fully functional. Whilst this is one step closer to a completely unlocked iPhone, it still does not have the capability to register itself with other networks (such as T-Mobile or Verizon Centennial Wireless), but where there's a will there's a way. source: insanelymac |

That's like RM1k difference. QUOTE(MariMo @ Aug 19 2007, 03:21 PM) i've asked the sales man in apple's outlet, he mentioned that the iphone is coming out by the end of this year, after chritmas (or maybe after new year , january that is) price will be at 3k ringgit. Is iphone unlockable in MAS? i am planing to get it from Hong Kong though |

QUOTE(derred @ Sep 14 2007, 08:24 AM) Nope. Yeah technically yes. But that is if u created a new account. That is one of the reason I went for it (iPhone). Even the bill is not so bad. If u already have an account just plus 20 to whatever u paid before. So say I pay 28 for previous bill, then I have to pay 48 for iPhone. Say if it is 10, then 30. oo got it. that is what we referred as upgrade. upgrade plan to get a better phone, or when contract is getting to the end. do AT&T sells the iphone without any plan / subscription? |

QUOTE(derred @ Sep 14 2007, 04:54 PM) Iphone is not AT&T's; so better Q shud b does Apple sell iPhone without subcription. I won't give u straight answer but I think u already know d answer. It's both no and yes. And yeah I answer no first b4 yes. yup aware of that. QUOTE(irwan6179 @ Sep 15 2007, 06:38 AM) simple answer. yes at&t sell iphone without requiring any activation. I went there, said i want Iphone without activation, they asked which one, I said 8 gig, I gave them 430usd(taxed), they give me the iphone. I get out from there, without anybody waiting at the door forcing me to activate o alright. so basically you can get the phone without the need to subscribe to the telco / sign contract. coz normally you wont get that in UK, unless you pay the phone as sim free set at much expensive price. QUOTE(FoX^ @ Sep 15 2007, 12:39 PM) Erm, i dont really understand what u mean but with my bulk u just pay either 2000 or 2500 depending on whether u want to share the risk with me, and guarantee can use with digi and celcom. I believe maxis sooner or later oso will be able to use but... i dont really care. got it! above explains why now.Re firmware updates relocking the phone, i think probably will lock the phone but why would u need to update the firmware if its working fine? |

QUOTE(ezinger @ Sep 16 2007, 07:39 PM) hehe amusing. i think the people should be responding is the people who is using an iphone as we speak. thanks for pointing that out.you don't have to subscribe to AT&T when you purchased an iphone from the US. when you buy an iphone, you are required to activate it via itunes. so if you dont activate it, then you just have a locked iphone. but since there's countless ways to unlock it, then..lol... theres so many paranoid people in this thread. doesn't mean when u purchased the iphone for 399USD, its compulsory that you sign up with AT&T and get billed monthly..thats entirely up to you..not them.. not everyone knows about that, paranoia. as different country have different system. for example malaysia dont have contract subscription at all that comes with free phone and free minutes monthly, while for EU, you wont be able to get a phone at its advertised price unless you subscribed to their plan.
