MItv is a smart tv sold by MI. Below link is the current model that they are selling while mine is the older version which is called MITV2 while now is MItv3 and MItv4.

https://www.mi.com/en/mitv3s/65flat/

Shafa market is an apk app that can be used in MI tv to install apk as they blocked playstore from Android for the version of MItv that i have.

so, u actually mean the xiaomi tv which runs on its own smart tv platform.

i think that tv is a few years old... not optimized for regular apps, incl kodi.

if u want kodi to work smoothly:

.. get a new box that can run actual kodi 17.6, not a fork or variation - e.g. mibox in'tl.
.. get a new tv which runs on androidtv - it will run kodi 17.6 well.

Yah had it for like 3 years and it was launched almost 5 years for my model if not mistaken. I wonder does other smart tv have this issue as well or just MItv? hmm.gif

The only problem i have now is Icdrama and tvbox is the cheapest solution.

well, u bot the tv becos it is cheap and "smart".

there r many types of smart tv but broadly.. well known brands with their own platform, less known brands with own platform, and sony/sharp with androidtv.

i can confirm sony/sharp androidtv can do all the usuals and sideload any android app incl kodi, astrogo, unifi playtv.

icdrama, i never tried with androidtv but i am quite sure u can with the right version.

i do not know much much about other brands but i think most can do the usual youtube-netflix-browser but cannot sideload other apps.

your case, if no plans to change tv, shop around for a box - rm300-600, a hundred choices.

if u do not need good audio output, cheaper ones will suffice.

It's normal for manufacturers to abandon updating older TVs. A TV's goal is to attain a stable firmware and not necessarily the latest features or OS version. Mine's probably last update 2 years after it's release. As already suggested by AVFAN. The obvious cheaper (and better if the TV has good PQ) option is to get an external media player.. Easy fix. smile.gif

RD is good stuff and they've been around awhile. Won't be easy to shut em down. However, as with all grey area things, only future will tell if good choice or not. I'm hanging on to my Netflix sub. smile.gif

hi,

No worries, we're on the same boat. I was quite skeptical about RD, I've subscribed for 3 then 6 months, now for 1 yr.

So far so good, like most services where almost impossible to get 100%, but for me RD is about 98-99%... biggrin.gif

Now I watch the TV shows either on Kodi or Terrarium TV w/o buffering, and my wife don't complaint anymore while watching The Flash or Masterchef, icon_rolleyes.gif

regards,...

Hi,

I a newbie to the KODI world.

My question is do i really need a VPN to run KODI addons (I am in Malaysia by the way) to keep myself safe. I have been reading a lot from various KODI advisory websites which mostly from the US or euro... recommending to use VPN to hide myself.

Do any of the SIFUs here use VPN by the way,

Planning to install and use KODI on my andorid TV.

Thanks in advance.

Nope.. For now and within Malaysia.. No VPN needed for access most content. However, if you must access geo-locked content? Then Yup, you'd need a VPN..

So no need to subscribe to VPN......cool.

Since most of these website recommend to use VPN to keep yourself safe but the subscription of VPN is not cheap. Thats why was having second thought of using KODI addons.

Thanks for the advice.....will try to use it.

Yup.. Try using first without VPN and see if successful. Most locked content that requires VPN typically are UK or Chinese content. Some still can be gotten without VPN. Just depends on where and how the addon is serving the media.
