Lets improve kodi, lets work with the IPTV providers to make some good addons.

Is kodi secure enough to be considered as the right platform for high value content ?

If Kodi is not secure enough, then inherently it is hard to get good addons in Kodi.

Anybody tried Netflix add on for Kodi ? Can get at least 1080p, based on what I read.

And it is using Kodi interface which is IR friendly. Not the mobile/mouse interface.

Just dual boot using MMC flash running either LibreElec or CoreElec.

I've tried it before.. It's still limited to lower res and stereo only. So those with TV apps, better use that instead.

I just came across a video which the author did it with Beelink GT king. Apparently it has something to do with ChromeOS and DRM certificates tied to it, so everything is legal.

Watched the video (even though I don't understand the language.. Could follow somewhat  biggrin.gif) and you are right. But one must first install the CoreELEC OS and the bunch of other stuff.. I'm also guessing that devices such as the GT-King possessing Widevine L1 status is also a requirement. A good workaround then for those without smart TVs that can get dual-booting to work and or just want full time CoreELEC OS as their primary. Good share..  thumbup.gif

I have been following the discussion on this topic after the video. It seems actually the CoreELEC installations offers no advantage, one might as well just same the same netflix plugin directly under Android Kodi. If the box itself is capable of Widevine L1 DRM, then with addition configuration, one could get a 1080p/4K using hardware decoding.

On any other platforms ( such as CoreELEC ), the decoding is done in software and hence the resolution will be greatly limited by the available juice of the CPU.

hmm.gif  I'll give it a shot on the GT-King.. Currently running a custom ATV ROM. See if it works with that or stock ROM. Though as with all such hacks, matter of time I reckon.

Can it play 1080p videos?
On Android devices Yes, as long as they are available from Netflix and your hardware can handle it. To understand if your device can handle them, you need to check if it has support for the Widewine L1 DRM

Other platform (Windows, Linux, ...) The video is always software decoded due to Netflix licensing restrictions, so you'll need a CPU that can handle the load of software decoding 1080p video otherwise you'll have the result of stuttering video playback. Which is what happens with certain RPI, 720p is maximum for those devices, and even then you need to make sure to properly cool your RPI or you'll have stuttering playback as well. You can limit the resolution in this way: In the addon settings open Expert page and change Limit video stream resolution to value to 720p.

QUOTE
Can it play 4K videos?
Yes, but only on Android devices with Widevine L1, and you need to set the following parameters:

In the addon settings, Expert page: Enable VP9 profiles to OFF Enable HEVC profiles to ON Force support to HDCP 2.2 to ON

In the Inputstream Addon settings, Account page: Override HDCP status to ON

If you don't get 4k resolution when you play: Try to enter the ESN from your Netflix App (can be found unter Settings => About).

If possible try these out too :-

QUOTE
Can it play HDR?
Yes, as long as the 4K prerequisites are met. Additionally, you must enabled HDR and/or DolbyVision profiles in addon settings. Depending on your setup, there may be some tinkering required to get HDR to work. This depends on your TV, if you are using an AV-Receiver, which device Kodi is running on, etc. Please make sure to search the issues and available forum threads for a solution before opening an issue!

Does it support 5.1 audio?
Yes, enable the option Enable Dolby Digital Plus in addon settings (is enabled by default).

Is Dolby Atmos supported?
Yes. It's enabled by default, when option Enable Dolby Digital Plus is enabled. But only some videos have Atmos, they can be distinguished from the skin media-flag "Dolby-HD". Note: Need a premium netflix account.

So happened to fiddle with it without success due to blacklisted device which was confirmed in this ARTICLE

Android Kodi Leia devices with baked in L1 DRM can HW decode 1080 / 2160p Netflix.
(except Android - Mecool devices - L1 DRM or HDCP - appears to be blacklisted).

Increasingly faking the identity of the tvbox as another box is becoming a necessity. I am not surprised that AstroGo also discriminate devices on their servers. For netflix they are likely discriminating boxes based on the ESN number, and that number seems to be burn into the firmware which can't be easily faked.

BTW did u try it on your X92 although it is L3 widevine?
*
Apart from login difficulty which I fixed it using a newer webview object, I don't remember having encounter any stutter video problem on x92.

Anyway I do fake my box as Sony TV on the x92 using setting which I have previously posted in another thread by editing build.prop. But I am not sure it helps for AstroGo but it certainly help the video hang issue with Iflix.

While playing with Kodi it has become quite unbearable to see Kodi skin cannot retain the viewType. Every time restarted Kodi and have to re-set the view type. And I have to set it for each video category.

Is there a skin which could give a default tile view of the available movies ( pretty much what we see more most apps such as netflix, astro go and HBO Go )?

The default of giving a list view on per movie is really terrible.
