i never bought any phillips monitor, so i can't say how much of a quality they are. and the ones on display with demo videos aren't that good of an indication since most of the videos are in crappy resolution
personally, i prefer the dell just because of its very trusted brand and also very good after service. for example, my previous dell monitor broke down and a call to dell for RMA resulted in a new monitor the very next day!
if i have to give an alternative, top up a bit and get an ultrawide. bought the LG 29UM57 for RM1040. as far as using it, i absolutely love it! wider work space so i can put more stuff side by side. watching movie is a blast since movies usually are in 21:9 ratio, so no top and black bars on a usual 1920x1080p monitors. however, viewing 1920 videos will result side bars instead, but that doesn't bother me much.
for games, playing on this monitor is also a blast because you have a wider field of view and you can see much more than usual. it uses only a bit more GPU power in my usage. a lot of latest games today support 21:9 resolution, so it's fine to use it. but some games don't, so you'll have to deal with black side bars or stretched out graphics
the lg is a little over my budget. Was trying to keep it under rm900 ... Will check out more dell monitors since they have such good after sales service. Thanks
